Jeff.......you could not be more wrong on this 'cult' thing if you tried. It's a convenient cute little phrase for people who disagree with you, but it has NO basis in fact.

I had solid conservative values before I knew George W. Bush existed. I was a Christian 30 years before he was. My political and spiritual values were well in place before he ever came on the scene.

He has influenced me on NOTHING..........(well, I do work out more now because of something he said :). But he DOES reflect the values I already had, and he is implementing things that I feel important, like restoring the military, and standing up for morality and life.

That doesn't mean that I agree with him on everything. I don't. (And I'm not absolutely sure about this port deal yet either).

But I do TRUST him. It's a trust based on his character and his performance......the same trust I had in Ronald Reagan.

And if you don't ever trust anyone, I feel sorry for you. Don't mock those of us who function at a deeper level than you do.

Unlike the two of you, I have no stake in the current administration nor do I aspire to be an elite or neo-con party operative. When FReepers have raised their honest objections, the sneering of the know-it-alls has been very telling. We common folk are just not as smart as you intelligentsia apologists. It's the same scenario played out over and over on this site.

I understand that this is your arena and the rest of us are guests. I have come to learn that conservative, Republican and patriot can be separate categories. Being from common midwest stock, I like to think that I and other family members have not lost our common sense. When something stinks, we say so. The intelligentsia tells us that our perception stinks. So be it. At least, we know where we stand. I count myself a patriot more than the other two categories.

TR encouraged us, nay required us, to question our President.

BTW, the story broke with a February 13 article published on the Military.Com website. We have been discussing this for one week on Free Republic. The breaking story yesterday was the President's veto threat.

Maybe your way is better, since the islamization of America will come sooner rather than later under your plan.

Franklin D. Roosevelt used his veto over SIX HUNDRED TIMES during his entire 12 years in office. And each and every time that veto was exercised, his party enjoyed obscene majorities in both houses.

Bush, on the other hand, had a Democratic Senate for most of the first two years of his term. Did he once exercise his veto? Nope, nope, and nope. He even signed a CFR bill of the exact nature he'd sworn during the 2000 campaign not to support.

Today, the GOP majorities in Congress are nowhere near the two-thirds (or higher) Democratic majorities FDR enjoyed, in both houses.

Shaking hands with George W. Bush while in the Oval Office is a risky proposition. You extend your hand, and he'll whip out a pen and sign your palm before you can pull it away.

I think it's noteworthy that the only trustworthy Republican in the Senate, Tom Coburn, immediately questioned the deal and took a stand to investigate. I look forward to reports on the Town Hall meeting.

Again, if Bush came out and said that Iran is a nation of peace and a great friend to the United States and Israel, the Bushbots would find a way to make it true in their minds.

Those folks add absolutely nothing to the debate other than venom. When you know that somebody's position on an issue is going to be "whatever George Bush said" no matter what the circumstance, they lose all credibility. When Bush is right, they are right. Tell me, Ohio, what is so honorable about him? You state that you are the proud mom of an Iraq war vet (and I thank your son for his service to our country) so please REVIEW what George Bush and Dick Cheney did during the time I WENT to Vietnam (Cheney received three deferments and Bush, by his own admission, only met the bare minimum of ANG points during his last three years of obligated service because he felt necessary to help some political hack in Alabama run for office).
I am a retired Naval Reservist and was easily able to capture more than the 60-point minimum each year I served. In fact, every reservist I knew in the serveral units I affiliated with during my career was able to do the same--because, if you didn't, it was well-reflected in your fitreps.
I don't fault the president because he was caught driving drunk in his youth, and I don't happen to believe rumors about his alleged cocaine usage or that he constantly was late or never showed for his scheduled ANG drills while in 'Bama.
But I do fault him when he becomes so cozy with the likes of someone like Bill Clinton, does nothing about the looming immigration crisis in our country, proposes jobs outsourcing bills such as CAFTA, suggests that his unqualified personal lawyer would make a SC justice, or that "Brownie did a heck of a job" in the worst hurricane to hit the Gulf in a century, and, especially, when he vows to veto a Congressional attempt to prevent an Arab nation, with proven ties to Al Qaeda, from taking over supervision of our vital seaports.
The more George Bush gaffes I see, the more I believe that former Texas Gov. Ann Richards was right about the "silver foot in his mouth" remark!
