AP ALERT

Posted on 02/21/2006 12:32:20 PM PST by Brian Mosely

ABOARD AIR FORCE ONE (AP) — President Bush says the deal allowing an Arab company to take over six major U.S. seaports should go forward and he will veto any bill that would stop it.

That President Bush will execute his first ever veto in his presidency in order to allow a muslim nation to take over our port operations.

Right, leave it to Schumer to obfuscate the facts.

Apparently the state deparment really needs better spokesman so that they won't say things like "These cartoons are indeed offensive to the belief of Muslims," State Department spokesman Kurtis Cooper said in answer to a question. "We all fully recognize and respect freedom of the press and expression but it must be coupled with press responsibility. Inciting religious or ethnic hatreds in this manner is not acceptable." if the really don't mean it.

Cool. You're still repeating the MSM lie.

Jeff, you've been duped.

That is a totally different press conference and even a different spokesman!!!

The guy you quote is named McCormack while I quoted a State Department spokesman named Kurtis Cooper.

I'm sorry to say, but you are the one that has been duped.

Clearly, politically, this was a bad move, boneheaded really, given the "perception" Americans hold of S.A.

I don't agree. The President has been very careful since 9/11 to distinguish between our enemies and our friends. We have friends in Dubai, and it's a good idea to make that clear. Killing a perfectly reasonable deal just because SOME Americans hate ALL Arabs is not good strategery for the WOT.

"Bush is a wuss on enforcing illegal immigration laws but a tiger on this. What is the deal with that?"

It's a fine line we walk when it comes to immigrants and the boarder. Is it coincidence that a true conservative hasn't had a sniff of a chance to win state wide election in California since Prop 187 was voted in only to be over turned by the Grayout Davis and the courts?

I've quoted the State Department spokesman several times and all you do is supply a quote by a totally different spokesman at a different press conference.

>>>Do you actually know how many containers get inspected? It is less than 10% according to Fox News. Does that concern you?

Another red herring. If they're inspected and documented AT THE SOURCE, how many of them do we necessarily need to inspect at this end? Certainly the ones where paperwork snafus show up or from certain "critical" areas, but every one?

That's like taking every single piece of work you've ever performed and doing a full audit on it. Not necessary, not to mention a waste of time and effort.

Not related. Arnold won and he ran as a conservative. It's the social conservative angle that kills conservatives in California not immigration. If immigration was so unpopular with the general public then prop 187 would have never passed.

It will be a cold day in hell before I ever go to them for help in defending our country

I think hell froze over when Schumer said he was concerned about national security with regards to the sale of the 6 ports. Watch him change his tune when this is all said and done.

Well then, using your logic that the 19 hijackers are Arabs terrorists and therefore we don't want any Arabs near our ports, we should ban all Irish from our ports because Irish terrorists assassinated Lord Mountbatten.

Convicting an entire people based on the actions of a very few is blatant bigotry.

You would agree that what McCormack said was appropriate?

The reason why I thought you were talking about McCormack was that took him out of context and changed his meaning.

Now let's have a link to this other guy's comment to see if they took him out of context.

Link?

(Hopefully it will have the full context.)

Thanks for proving my point with that photo that anyone who uses their brain is a Bushbot, and anyone willingly and forcefully going off the deep end without knowing ONE fact about this is not.

>>>Do you feel that the difference is really that significant? Would you feel comfortable with Iran operating the ports if the US was still in charge of security.

>>>Of course, the UAE isn't Iran but the point I'm making is that that operations are still an important item to consider.

In a word, yes.

The UAE (at least politically, economically, and socially) is FAR from Iran. For us to lump in all Arabs is racist on its face and far from what we want to achieve in the GWOT. Excluding this company solely based on who owns it is far more damaging to our standing in the Arab world than one might think.

And do you realize what these companies will be doing? Here's an example:

Port Manager gets message that SHIP A will arrive the next day carrying cargo for COMPANY A, COMPANY B and COMPANY C. They direct the longshoremen to offload the cargo. Then the Port Manager informs TRANSPORT COMPANY A, TRANSPORT COMPANY B and TRANSPORT COMPANY C where go in the port to have their cargo loaded.

Thats it. Thats all they do. They dont inspect the cargo. They dont touch the cargo. They dont unload the cargo. They dont ship the cargo. They dont do ground transportation. All they do is coordinate between the people who do.

"Killing a perfectly reasonable deal just because SOME Americans hate ALL Arabs is not good strategery for the WOT."

We hate terrorists and terrorists come from the ranks of Arabs.
go figure

It's better to kill the deal than risk killing Americans in the view of those opposed.

Why are you in favor of the deal?

This is a game to you? A get Bush? Pit poster against poster. Draw up teams. Pile on and tear to shreds.

FR of yore was better than that. It's sickening to watch this frenzy.

Facts be damned and reasonable discussion not welcome?

A. The last time I checked, the Provos were a quasi-Marxist, single-minded terrorist organization that didn't draw inspiration from the Pope. In fact, one of the moments during "the troubles" that stands out in my mind is former Pope John Paul II imploring the participants in that particular conflict to cease inter-communal, sectarian violence.

B. Correct me if I'm wrong, but the IRA-even the most radical, brutal offshoots such as the INLA or Real IRA-never plunged two fully-fueled commercial jets into skyscrapers packed with innocent civilians, or attempted to assassinate half of Congress, and use airliners to destroy Capitol Hill.

C. http://www.captainsquartersblog.com/mt/archives/004065.php

D.If I thought that there was a significant portion of American Catholics that wanted to discard the Constitution, and impose a theocracy upon their fellow citizens, and were willing to exterminate a good portion of the American public in order to fulfill those goals, then I would despise them just as fervently as I do Mohammedans, in spite of the fact that I was baptized into the Church.
