Pence felt the need to remind President Bush that we are at war??

BS - he leaves our borders open, allows illegals to recieve more benefits than our soldiers and law abiding citizens, signs into law a bill to take away our free speech rights, and now he wants to allow our ports to be managed by our enemy. Something is strange and connected here and I dont like it - he acts like he cares about American security but does nothing to show it.

I would think so. Not only am I sure of under the view screen help in the war on terror, but there is a principal here of free enterprise.
This kind of misguided "protectionism" is just asking for trouble with our companies which do business overseas.
I certainly hope that our security has not been dependent on the ability of a British company that manages some of our ports to keep out terrorists while allowing the UAR company to manage the same port will allow terrorists in.
What a sad day if true.

The only thing I can think of is that with this deal he got assurances from them that they would help us in the war on Terror. Unfortunately, you can't trust them...so it's just not worth the risk.

"Geez, why does he have such a woody about this?" Same as it's always been in Washington, $$$$$$$. Somebody's pockets are going to be stuffed with Arab muslim kickback money. Dubai has been the most notorious smuggling route in the middle east for 2,000 years, so you can bet your last dollar this whole situation is one great, big sleazy deal between their money makers and ours.

I agree with President Bush on this one. About time that he used the veto pen.
There's no reason for us to be paranoid about this issue. Just visit Dubai yourself and you'll be impressed.

How utterly stupid of a thought / comment - The reality is ...if you are so ill-informed to think that by simply "owning" these said ports the UAE could increase the risk to our national security......you only prove you don't have a clue. You, sir, have apparently been in any major corporation during a takeover -- OR, you have and you simply ignored your experience.
Leadership sets the tone throughout any firm.

Sure, this doesn't make me happy, and yes, I'm losing more respect for GW every day, but like I say- the worst republican is still better than the best democrat. Which is why I'll still donate to the GOP even considering the border-- ick the port mess-- ick and the giving away of Israel to monsters-- double ick
To: hipaatwo
Whoever I talked to around here isn't happy, be it dem or pubbie. I'm so close to the river, not downtown but not very far either. I've got a bleeping nuke plant on one side of me and the bleeping ports on the other end
This bleeping news has sent me over the edge
I am REALLY trying to be rational about the whole thing .. but I just can't do it .. and whoever came up with this bleeping stupid idea can go choke on it
I need a break or I'll say something I'll really regret

People kid me because I predicted (Monday quaterbaking according to them), Miers would "sted down" somehow, when I realized the horrendous mistke Bush had made in chosing the "best candidate" for the supreme court.
Again my friends, How exactly I do not know... but this issue is almost as hot as the Miers nomination... Shawn is saying it right, this would give the Dems a "card," an Ace I might add, to get them into the game of "National Security." Claiming Bush does not know what the F*** he is doing. Could the president be THAT Stupid?... I hope not.
So I predict again, this sale will not go through!.. and if Bush does not move quickly... He will pay the price like with Miers and Katrina.
God knows he is already letting down many Republicans on the securing of the border and Immigration..

Don't dare question Bush's motives. They're secret, complex, and far too esoteric for the rabble to comprehend. It's what I call the
Bush ex machina. It only SEEMS like another stupid, accommodationist betrayal. In good time, all will be revealed to True Believers, and we doubters will be embarrassed by our lack of faith.
To: Dog
Say what you want about Bush but to say he doesn't care about defending this country is an OUTRAGEOUS charge. That's not what he said - you left out "from foreign invaders".
He has YET to make any serious effort to close off the southern border. And now he is willing for the first time to use his veto pen - against a bill that would halt this sale.
Yeah, Bush cares about defending this country - as long as business interests still get their illegal labors and his Arab backers get their deals done. He won't veto spending bills that give his base fits, but he'll veto blocking a port handover that gives his base fits.

This is Bush's Panama Canal Treaty. No comparison.
Jimmy Carter gave away a vital US asset.
These US ports are not being given away, they will remain US owned. The same US Customs Service security remains in place as when the ports were managed by US companies, a British company, and soon a UAE company.
