PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 21 (UPI) -- An 18-year-old single father whose struggle raising his toddler daughter was featured in People magazine has been killed in Philadelphia.
Terrell Pough was shot in the head on his way home from work Thursday night and later died at Temple University Hospital, the Philadelphia Inquirer reported.
Police said they have no suspects but do have a possible lead. No further details of the slaying were released.
The August issue of People profiled Pough, who worked as the night manger at a local restaurant while attending school full-time and raising his daughter, Diamond, who will be 2 on Nov. 27.
"She's what I work for, what I live for, why I wake up," he told People. "She's everything."
Diamond, who had full-custody of his daughter, had planned to work in construction after graduating next June.
"If something ever happens to me, no one can ever tell her that her dad didn't take care of her," he told People.
I never said he in particular bragged. Maybe you could use Reading Comprehension. And those who defend sex by 15 year olds aren't living in the real world. He is continuing the cycle that has caused such misery in the black community. I am shocked you refuse to acknowledge that fact. But if it makes you feel good to think that kids in this situation who decide to raise a child are doing a good thing, then you probably have your own personal reasons, which is fine. I stand by my opinion that teens should not keep producing these babies and learn to not have sex. Are you saying that is asking too much of them? Apparently that is exactly what you are saying. By the way, have you ever overheard conversations of teen boys bragging about sex? I certainly have and if it were my daughter they were discussing, I would be very upset. I have brought my children up to understand abstinence and so far so good.

I read this article also. This is a real tragedy.
But we don't go around bragging about our sins in national magazines. We are ashamed of our sins. Our sins often have hurt our families and friends. We feel guilt. We know what we did was wrong. I still get the feeling if this was a story about a white kid, it wouldn't be a story. For that I feel very bad.

You then proceeded to focus on his 'sin' when the intent of the article and those on this thread was to give him credit for making a attempt of OVERCOMING his sinful lifestyle.

How do you know he wasn't working toward BREAKING the cycle. It must be nice to be a mindreader. I have a friend who had a child out of wedlock, cleaned up his act and now his daughter is taking premed. How would YOU judge my friend? BTW, he is black and grew up in Over-the-Rhine, a ghetto neighborhood on the outskirts of Cincinnati. He overcame great odds and THAT is what those on this thread are applauding.

Just so you won't have to exercise your powers of reasoning, let me make it clear that I DO NOT approve of fornication and have taught my children (who have reached the age of reason) the importance of abstinence. We are Roman Catholic and follow the teachings of the Church. I wonder what YOU will read into THAT!
