You were always so good at research!!
nite!
Nite Bons!
Of the Schindlers, there has evolved the unfortunate and inaccurate perception that they will "keep Theresa alive at any and all costs" even if that were to result in her limbs being amputated and additional, complex surgical and medical interventions being performed, and even if Theresa had expressly indicated her intention not to be so maintained. During the course of the GAL's investigation, the Schindlers allow that this is not accurate, and that they never intended to imply a gruesome maintenance of Theresa at all costs.
Of Michael Schiavo, there is the incorrect perception that he has refused to relinquish his guardianship because of financial interests, and more recently, because of allegations that he actually abused Theresa and seeks to hide this. There is no evidence in the record to substantiate any of these perceptions or allegations.
Well, its late here in the Pacific Northwest...thought I would check in again, and see whether or not this thread was still running...glad to see that it is still here...
To all those who served in the military, many thanks...a service well done...my great grandfather was in the cavalry, stationed at Ft, Yates, North Dakota...there to keep peace between the settlers, and the Lakota....that is where, his son, my grandfather was conceived....
That grandfather served in WW1....I have a chest full of his stuff in the garage, all his army gear from WW1, all his papers from his service....his son, my dad, joined the army on his 18th birthday, Nov, 1940...he was a navigator on the planes that flew back and forth between the west coast, and the Phillipines, Burma, and India, dropping supplies, and picking up wounded...Dad never talked about much that happened in the war, it was all too terrible for him to want to relive...Dads best friend died on the Arizona...
My hubbys dad, was among the first to land on Normandy...almost all in his unit were killed...he spent several days, pinned down...when he returned to the US, he was a broken man mentally, and never recovered...the guilt of surviving Normandy haunted him....he said,it would have been better for him, if had died with his fellow soldiers...one of my husbands uncles spent WW11 in the navy...and every year he goes to those reunions with his old shipmates...and every year, sadly, more and more of them have passed on...another uncle served in the army in Korea...
My hubby spent 10yrs in the full time army, and 18yrs in the army reserves...he retired on 9/10/2001...and the next day, well you know what happened...it was just an odd coincidence...the hubby regrets having retired when he did...felt he could have still been useful, and never envisioned what would happen on 9/11...
Just thought I would let you all know, ,there is a fine military history in my own family, and in my hubbys family...We are all proud of that...it was an honor for me to know all these fine men....
Sorry, I just had to brag a little....
I have heard that now the Schindlers lawyer is saying that an officer of the court who was present when they pulled Terri Schiavos feeding tube, has said that Terri, tried to say, that sentence "I want to live"...
Now this has been floating around for a while, but now it appears that this court officers has sworn, to this...if this is really so, then I do believe that the judge should take this sworn statement, and at least give Terri an IV of fluids, so that this can be investigated...I dont know if this is true or not..
From the Catscans of Terris brain, and from what the docs have said about that catscan, I would have thought this to be not realistic...but I will not discount the possibility that Terri did make an effort to save her life...in spite of all the medical technology, there still is much the doctors do not know about the brain...so I may be in the minority here, but I wish they would give her an IV, and try somehow to ascertain if this is true...
But I am shocked, that the Schindlers lawyer did not bring this up, right away, last week, when it was supposed to have happened...I saw the lawyer speak tonite, and when asked about this, he claimed that well, he was busy with other matters on the case, well, they thought they were going to win on some appeal...
I just think, this was case of really lousy lawyering, or someone is lying...because, this lawyer has to know, that the crux of this case, is 'What would Terri Want'...and if Terri, did actually make such a statement, and there is an officer of the court willing to swear to such a statement, then that lawyer should have known, that here was the very evidence he needed to get Terri reconnected...and yet he did nothing...I am awaiting the outcome of this one...because right now, it makes no sense...
I also do think that we could get too complacent on this thread, that perhaps we do need to fan out, and visit other threads, and at least make an effort to show another view...tho, I must say, being so thin skinned, I will trouble doing that...I have always been the one to opt for comfort...well, anyway, there are my thoughts for this evening...
The source of the confusion is that, while now they say they wouldn't go that far, they did say they would go that far when they were on the stand.
Felos asked, (paraphrasing) "if she got gangrene in her legs, would you cut them off?" The answer was "yes" . Then he kept asking more gruesome scenarios and to each, the answer was "yes". I can't remember (brain is zzz) who was asked - I got the impression it was all of them, tho.
They got a lot of heat for it.
Since then, they have said they wouldn't take it that far.
I think they would amputate for gangrene. I don't think they'd do open heart surgery tho - just my personal feeling. I know they were against Karen Anne Quinlan being removed from her ventilator, even after all those years in that state. So, they definitely have very strict standards there.
When Michael beat Terri and broke her ribs, etc., he wasn't performing a medical procedure. And starving a woman to death is not a medical procedure. No doctor in history has ever prescribed murder as a medical procedure--well, maybe Dr. Mengele. You are indulging in Orwellian language-twisting.
Why are you still awake and posting??? :-)
On the other hand, the GAL mentioning that Terri's *husband* stood to benefit from her death much sooner than the Schindlers would ever benefit (insofar as they wanted to rehab her and were against removing her feeding tube, thereby keeping her alive longer than MS wants), strongly suggests that MS's position would result in a monetary award much sooner than any position taken by the Schindlers.
THAT eliminates the strength of any inference Greer accepted as proof of bias on the part of the GAL. The fact that MS made a committment to divest himself of his advantage does not establish bias in the GAL. Instead, Greer's rush to find bias under these facts evidences his ineptitude and perhaps, his own bias.
Can you back up this libelous statement, or are you just bearing false witness?
Why are there no broken ribs on E.R. admission X-rays? What account have you made for osteoporosis?
So...NOW do you believe she's not Jesus?
LOL -I don't know whether to agree or disagree with you as I don't have context to what you are responding to.
What are you talking about?
as for what you took personally, i am sorry as well, but it was not intended that way. i don't know you, nor do i know anything about you, have no way to know that you are even catholic. i referenced the post that claimed the Church was not opposed to this and gave evidence that it was not so. You came back to say that it was not an encyclical. And yes, such parsing can be used as justification for one's viewpoint, as to what your viewpoint is, whether you are catholic, like i said, i have no clue and that is not my purpose.
Yesterday was Good Friday, i left this thread to watch the Passion with my family. it is a transcendent experience, even the second time. it provided me needed perspective. i think everyone, on both sides of this debate, needs to step back and try to get a little perspective on themselves, and not just wildly go around making pronouncements on the sanity or the morality of the other side. i am sorry if you felt that i was attacking you in any way. truly, i only intend to correct misinformation about the Church's position. i admit to use of intemperate language and ask your forgiveness for it.
Actually, i usually like "Uno".
"Monopoly" is a whole other ballgame, though...
THAT can go on forever.
We don't do horror movies.
Mostly because *I* am a big chicken! LOL!
"Harry Potter" is more our speed.

Before I read my mail and pings, I wish to extend an apology to you for infiltrating the Insanity Brigade's base camp and exceeding the bounds of propriety by proverbially placing a disgusting object in their punch bowl.
I was provoked by Tonkin, but that is no excuse.
The GAL is a neutral party, by law.
A key paragaph is,
"After the malpractice case judgment, evidence of disaffection between the Schindlers and Michael Schiavo openly emerged for the first time. The Schindlers petitioned the court to remove Michael as Guardian. They made allegations that he was not caring for Theresa, and that his behavior was disruptive to Theresas treatment and condition. Proceedings concluded that there was no basis for the removal of Michael as Guardian. "Further, it was determined that he had been very aggressive and attentive in his care of Theresa. His demanding concern for her well being and meticulous care by the nursing home earned him the characterization by the administrator as a nursing home administrators nightmare.
It is notable that through more than thirteen years after Theresas collapse, she has never had a bedsore.
The next year, he signed a DNR order, "based upon discussions and consultation with Theresas doctor, and was predicated on his reasoned belief that there was no longer any hope for Theresas recovery. It had taken Michael more than three years to accommodate this and he was beginning to accept the idea of allowing Theresa to die naturally rather than remain in the non-cognitive, vegetative state. It took Michael a long time to consider the prospect of getting on with his life something he was actively encouraged to do by the Schindlers, long before enmity tore them apart. He was even encouraged by the Schindlers to date, and introduced his in-law family to women he was dating." But this was just prior to the malpractice case ending."
[My words] And as for being a leach, well,
"In response to Mr. Pearses report, Michael Schiavo filed a Suggestion of Bias against Mr. Pearse. This document notes that Mr. Pearse failed to mention in his report that Michael Schiavo had earlier, formally offered to divest himself entirely of his financial interest in the guardianship estate."
Read the whole thing. It's probably the only fair accounting of the entire incident, written by someone who legally had to remain unbiased.
I experienced the most horrible dreams last night about Spotted Owls and static cling. I have no idea how those feathers I found in my pajamas got there. Honestly.
