Of the Schindlers, there has evolved the unfortunate and inaccurate perception that they will "keep Theresa alive at any and all costs" even if that were to result in her limbs being amputated and additional, complex surgical and medical interventions being performed, and even if Theresa had expressly indicated her intention not to be so maintained. During the course of the GAL's investigation, the Schindlers allow that this is not accurate, and that they never intended to imply a gruesome maintenance of Theresa at all costs.
Of Michael Schiavo, there is the incorrect perception that he has refused to relinquish his guardianship because of financial interests, and more recently, because of allegations that he actually abused Theresa and seeks to hide this. There is no evidence in the record to substantiate any of these perceptions or allegations.
The source of the confusion is that, while now they say they wouldn't go that far, they did say they would go that far when they were on the stand.
Felos asked, (paraphrasing) "if she got gangrene in her legs, would you cut them off?" The answer was "yes" . Then he kept asking more gruesome scenarios and to each, the answer was "yes". I can't remember (brain is zzz) who was asked - I got the impression it was all of them, tho.
They got a lot of heat for it.
Since then, they have said they wouldn't take it that far.
I think they would amputate for gangrene. I don't think they'd do open heart surgery tho - just my personal feeling. I know they were against Karen Anne Quinlan being removed from her ventilator, even after all those years in that state. So, they definitely have very strict standards there.
the Schindlers ....and that they never intended to imply a gruesome maintenance of Theresa at all costs.
"There is no evidence in the record to substantiate any of these perceptions or allegations."
Are you aware that it's not in the record because they recanted what they said according to an article appearing in a Fl newspaper?
"Wolfson says the Schindlers later recanted their testimony."
Coming off as looking like Dr. Frankenstein is not good PR.
