Archeologist finds evidence of Old Testament Validity

Hamilton, Ontario, Jan. 28, 2005 (CNA) - Canadian archaeologist Russell Adams, a professor at McMaster University has recently unearthed evidence, which helps to show the historical accuracy of the Bible.

Professor Adams and his team of colleagues have found information that points to the existence of the Biblical Kingdom of Edom existing at precisely the time Scripture claims it existed.

The evidence flies in the face of a common belief that Edom actually came into existence at least 200 years later.

According to the Canadian Globe and Mail, the group’s findings “mean that those scholars convinced that the Hebrew Old Testament is at best a compendium of revisionist, fragmented history, mixed with folklore and theology, and at worst a piece of outright propaganda, likely will have to apply the brakes to their thinking.”

The Kingdom of Edom, mentioned throughout the Old Testament, and a continuous source of hostility for Biblical Israel, is thought to have existed in what is now southern Jordan.

The group made their discovery while investigating a copper mining site called Khirbat en-Nahas.

According to the Globe and Mail, radiocarbon dating of their finds, “firmly established that occupation of the site began in the 11th century BC and a monumental fortress was built in the 10th century BC, supporting the argument for existence of an Edomite state at least 200 years earlier than had been assumed.”

The evidence is also said to suggest that the Kingdom existed at the same time David, who scripture recounts as warring with Edom, was king over Israel.

I beg to differ.

Jesus said his Church would be "the light of the world." He then noted that "a city set on a hill cannot be hid" (Matt. 5:14). This means his Church is a visible organization. It must have characteristics that clearly identify it and that distinguish it from other churches. Jesus promised, "I will build my Church and the gates of hell will not prevail against it" (Matt. 16:18). This means that his Church will never be destroyed and will never fall away from him. His Church will survive until his return.

Among the Christian churches, only the Catholic Church has existed since the time of Jesus. Every other Christian church is an offshoot of the Catholic Church. The Eastern Orthodox churches broke away from unity with the pope in 1054. The Protestant churches were established during the Reformation, which began in 1517. (Most of today’s Protestant churches are actually offshoots of the original Protestant offshoots.)

Only the Catholic Church existed in the tenth century, in the fifth century, and in the first century, faithfully teaching the doctrines given by Christ to the apostles, omitting nothing. The line of popes can be traced back, in unbroken succession, to Peter himself. This is unequaled by any institution in history.

Even the oldest government is new compared to the papacy, and the churches that send out door-to-door missionaries are young compared to the Catholic Church. Many of these churches began as recently as the nineteenth or twentieth centuries. Some even began during your own lifetime. None of them can claim to be the Church Jesus established.

The Catholic Church has existed for nearly 2,000 years, despite constant opposition from the world. This is testimony to the Church’s divine origin. It must be more than a merely human organization, especially considering that its human members— even some of its leaders—have been unwise, corrupt, or prone to heresy.

Any merely human organization with such members would have collapsed early on. The Catholic Church is today the most vigorous church in the world (and the largest, with a billion members: one sixth of the human race), and that is testimony not to the cleverness of the Church’s leaders, but to the protection of the Holy Spirit.
In this age of countless competing religions, one voice rises above the din: the Catholic Church, which the Bible calls "the pillar and foundation of truth" (1 Tim. 3:15).

Jesus assured the apostles and their successors, the popes and the bishops, "He who listens to you listens to me, and he who rejects you rejects me" (Luke 10:16). Jesus promised to guide his Church into all truth (John 16:12–13). We can have confidence that his Church teaches only the truth.

Jesus said he is “the way, the truth, and the life”. Not “a” way or “a” truth. Why would Jesus establish a church, and then let everyone decide their own particular truth?

Just don't forget: The anti-biblical critics are working from assumptions not established fact. And they are as prejudiced as anyone else.

You almost have it near correct:

• Before the Christian Cabal of the 1960's, when the religious equivalent of aluminum siding and used car salesman recognized what a slick marketing tool and exclusive lock on the door to Heaven the term "Born Again" was, most people didn't really think in those terms. Control the entry to Heaven and you have all the credibility you need.
• Their lack of philosophical intellect to truly comprehend the true meaning of the phrase. They didn't have any problem becoming modern day Pharisees. Protestantism is a reactive force not an expanding force.
• The Catholic Church is technically the oldest of the Christian denominations but there were many different church communities. The Roman and Eastern Catholic churches had the advantages of becoming affiliated with the Roman and Eastern Roman Empires.
• The success of the True Church is dependent upon the reunification of Roman and Eastern churches for each offers something the other lacks. It's much like a splitting of the Body and the Soul. More than the sum of it's parts.
• The Prophet Emmanuel always connected Himself with the Church, they were indivisible and it was related to the Power of Life. The Living Church. The Living Bible. This Is My Body. This is My Blood, blood being probably the most visceral, ancient symbols of life.
• When Henry VIII challenged the Clement VII, divorce was only a cover story. It was more about a King who recognized his ascension to king, if by Divine Right was at least equal to the power of a Pope.
