To stop terrorism you have to stop its adherents, and make their actions moot.
"Flypaper" is the strategy of dealing with terrorists on their own turf, rather than waiting to deal with them on our turf, (or in Londinium.)
Making their actions moot will require getting the co-operation of the Major Media to downplay the effectiveness of terror. They will, of course, scream, but the simple truth is this: "You are either with us, or you are with the terrorists." I don't know how to implement this, but media reports are a weapon in the terrorist's hands. They need to be disarmed.
Oh, I'd recommend starting the novel! What are you going to write about?
It would be nice it they were on our side for a change. But short of the FDR strategy I am not sure how either. They are drunk with the idea of their own power.
But even total media control won't stop it either. You have to cut off their sub rosa support from hostile governments. It could be done it the world would act in concert.
In Afghanistan, many warlords are reluctant to yield obeissance to the national government. They have to be incorporated into its structure in order to get their cooperation.
"They are drunk with the idea of their own power."
There's an incipient idea here, but I can't tease any sense out of it. How could giving the press real power benefit us?
Would we want to put them in charge of winning the conflict?
"Your mission, Jim, should you decide to accept it, is to win the hearts and minds of the Islamic majority, and show them that cooperation with us will bring them to that bright, marvelous future the Prophet promised them."
Oh, yeah!! What do those guys know about advertising or conveying a message?
But in the interest of keeping the UT2 thread "family friendly", I will not post this picture.
Or Hamas, or Hezbollah, or Islamic Jihad, or Al Quaeda, or the United Front Blah Blah Blah, or the PLA, or PLO, or .....
You keep talking like that and someone might post a picture of an explosion!
What kind of a ZOT! thread would this be then?
Hi everyone. I'm back in my apartment now. Long day - worked this morning then drove 6 hours this afternoon. I would have come online earlier but I was unpacking and sorting.
Hi, Miss Tulip!
You could get across Illinois faster if you went sideways.
welcome back.
pity I'm just leaving.
ya gotta start keeping "christian" hours, doll!
Sorry! Hopefully I'll be online earlier tomorrow. I'm not planning on staying up much longer though - just too exhausted (I was up at 6 am).
I could save half the time if I went sideways!
It seems to work for crabs.
I should know...
LOL!
Well, I better get some sleep so I don't turn into a crab tomorrow. ;-)
Good night!
"Kemal Attaturk knew what he was doing."
Hmm. He did know what he was dealing with, I'll give him that. OTOH, his vision for Turkey has faltered. The Turks would be expected to be ruthless in their rooting out of the mass-murdering Islamofascist terrorists, but the current party of power in Turkey is too far under the tent for that.
Quite a bit but they have squandered their creditability with us and should they start spewing such stuff the Arabs would dismiss it as propaganda.
There is a reason why they believe anything bad and discard any good report. They have no tradition of freedom of the press. The state controls the press and what they do not control the mosque does.
So anything bad is accepted because the state wouldn't let out anything that would tarnish it's image unless they had no choice. So it must be true and even worse then they say. But anything good is questionable because of course they would say that.
I had a thought the other night about a laundry service in the Gold Rush.
Actually, this isn't quite correct. The Isreali's have been known to stop a suicide bomber before they detonate by the proper application of high speed lead poisoning.
Also, just like having a fire extinguisher, you never really NEED it until you do need it and by then it is normally much to late to go looking for one.
