Hi, gang,
I was a regular contributor to the Kerry Online Forum and am now a regular contributor to the Common Ground Common Sense forum. I am a liberal, but I'll be the first to admit, I don't have all the answers. In fact, many of hte questions that matter to me probably matter to you too. I'm concerned with questions about how to tame power, whether governmental or corporate. I'm concern with the rule of law and how we can get the powerful to take it seriously. I'm concerned with the erosion of civil liberties. And yes, I am concerned about some things you may associate with liberalism--social safety nets and taking care of those who fall through the institutional cracks.
I'm here because I think agreement is overrated and that critics can be your best friends: they keep you from getting sloppy or careless. At any rate, I think there are things I can learn from you. I don't expect you are all agreed on anything--I expect there is a lot of diversity of opinion here. If you are interested in what I have said over at Common Ground Common Sense, I'm using the same handle both places, and you should feel free to come over and look around.
Anyway, I'm new here. Anybody care to give me a tour?
Oops - spelling error - *Shirley*
:-)
Well, aren't you FReaking special...we'll see.
I'll read your 1st day vanity thread...

REMAIN competitive?
That's very quick and clever of you. The best I got was a ripping review. LOL!
I FELT SLIGHT NAUSEA FROM THE BEGINNING..........
Stick around and if you have thick skin you may be pleasantly suprised... we "conservatives" really do have a reason for our conservativeness.
Mainly we want to maintain our country, way of life and traditions. We believe in the Constitution and Bill of Rights as determined by our forefathers and not the communist-based ACLU.
And a Merry Christmas to you to! :)
I'll admit I rarely post over there because the responses tend to be of little value; they tend to disintegrate very rapidly into character assassinations and ad-hominems. Insightful responses are rare over there.
Thanks. For what it's worth, there were plenty of times at the old Kerry website when I told fellow democrats to mind their manners and not abuse the conservatives who came to visit.
Regardless, if you are serious about discussing things here, you will be alright. There are of course many @ssholes, as there are on any public forum, who might scare you off, but on the other hand, there are plenty of folks who would be willing to "meet" you straight up and talk about things. Being a former liberal, I'd gladly be one such person, since I believe I can still "see" things from the other perspective. In fact, I tell people that in my heart, I am still a liberal, it is my brain that makes me conservative. So anyways, Welcome.
Could be rabbit... could be! Yeah I will agree I do not want to see the office weakend... It was damaged under clintion... Bush has brought it back... we don't need to go that route again... ever!
Where would you rank ex-Pres. Bill Clinton...in a list of the last 20 Presidents?
How would you describe Bill Clinton to your son's?
TIA-
Thanks.
Well then you better start conversing and posting. There are close to 500 replys to your original thread starter and about only 10 of them are yours. Half drivel about your children or thanks for welcoming you.
Let's have some substance!
Welcome to FR. I appreciate the tact you've taken at approaching the folks here honestly and with at least an open enough mind to listen to what folks here say.
You're right in that there are a variety of opinions here, just as there are varying degrees of conservatism.
Your concern with the rule of law actually puts you on the same page with quite a few people here, myself included.
None of us here pretend to have all the answers either, and we all get into some healthy debates discussing them.
As some have said at this point, there is a wariness among folks here (and an itchy trigger finger sitting on the "Summon Mystic Lightning" key on more than one keyboard right now) to people who profess themselves "liberals" with the intent of either disrupting the regular flow of things, or to "gather ammunition" against individuals, with the intent of smearing those individuals as well as conservatives in general.
But rather than add to the paucity of reading material that you've no doubt attracted from some of the folks here, I'll leave it to them to begin your education.
There is a wide variety of folk here from various schools of thought and from varying segments of the conservative community. As you find out more, you may be interested in some of those varying sub-strata, and we'll be more than happy to provide you with direction and people to talk to there as well.
Until then, I bid you good day, and leave you in the hands of my capable bretheren (and "sisteren," too...)
Please don't. That's not HIS little red blinking light. lol
I live half the year in China. The party leader in the town where I live has said more than once, a company first needs to make a profit. Profit in the U.S. is a dirty word as I understand the liberal persuasion.
Funny, another communist, Karl Marx, had the answer to your question. When the workers are so abused, they will rise up and overtake the ruling class. Funny thing happened in the U.S. though, we figured that out.
As to the regulation you speak of, it is way overdone in this country. It is driving companies out of the U.S. and to places like China where they are welcome. And make no mistake, they do not go there to polute or abuse workers. The foreign invested factories in China are as clean, modern and safe as any in the U.S. But, they do it without agencies like OSHA piling on a mountain of paperwork regulations.
I bet you also think corporate taxation is good. But, you have not figured out that all that tax just goes into the cost of the goods and services that you pay for. In reality, you and I pay the tax. The company just collects it for the government. Companies don't pay taxes, only people pay taxes.
