Exurge, Calvinisti, et judica causam tuam...
drstevej (Pope Piel I)

Exurge, Calvinisti, et judica causam tuam...

Arise (some mss read Swarm), O Calvinists, and plead your cause. The doctrines of grace are mightily assailed by those who would proclaim with their father, “I will be like the Most High.” Set forth the biblical case for a sovereign God who is jealous for His glory. Disallow through disputation (and lampooning when needed) the damnable errors of those who have refashioned the great sola doctrines into a salvation-helper gospel that exalts the fallen will of man.

From every corner, in every thread exalt the right of God to do whatsoever He pleaseth. Be not dismayed by persistent anthropocentric rantings. Blessed are you when they revile you for the sake of the truth. Happy are ye when the Servetus card is played and the strawmen are paraded before you for He who is enthroned in heaven reigns.

– Pope Piel I, Thread Pope

"[The false proposition] that heretics be burned is against the will of the Spirit ... is ... in opposition to Catholic truth." (Leo X, Exsurge Domine, 33) Hmmm ... On second thought, toss the application Fishiness.

While you're insisting upon the Burning of Heretics... does kissing a Koran count as Formal Public Heresy??

You tell me, Hermann -- does laying a fat wet sloppy pucker upon the SATANIC BIBLE (and I doubt that Belloc would be any more sparing in terms) count as Formal Public Heresy??

Never mind the Apostasy, the Pederasty, the American Bishops' renunciation of Jewish Evangelism...

Those in stained-glass white-washed tombs, should perhaps not throw stones. (Given the current state of Roman Catholicism -- if DrSteveJ were a Roman Cardinal, you'd be begging God to advance his candidacy for the See of Rome.)

I submit you shouldn't toss that Application quite yet, Your Fishiness. Let's first determine of the Roman Catholics can hold their lunch down when the candidates to succeed John Paul II are announced.

....Im wondering aloud if the swarm ping list entitles the ping-ee to any discounts, with particular regard to perscription medications, book club specials on Orthodox giants, or Popepiel products (to include of course the "set it and forget it" Rotisserie and the "seal a meal")

Diplomacy is not necessarily adverse to hard-ball, where painful Truths are involved.

The LORD reveals that He will bring a judgment on Israel, then He frequently concludes His prophecys with something like "Then you shall know that I am the LORD."

Yes I also notice this when the law is given. He will say you shall not eat a certain kind of food or do a certain thing and conclude the thought with "I am the Lord your God". He seems to be saying that who He is is reason enough not to even ask why that particular law is there. I sure think you nailed this issue though in saying that "He is" is the attribute that the bible says is the biggest one.

An exact One Thousand Years, you say??

Absolutely. Just like God only ownes the cattle on the first one thousand hills. After that, others do.

Then again, according to the Day-Age Theory Theistic Evolutionists (talk about oxymoron), the "millennial kingdom" could only last one day.

2 Pet 3:8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

But still, the Pessimillenialists will have to wait a long time (considering a generation is 40 years)...

Deut 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations;

Which of course He will then break that Covenant...

"TWO POINTS !!" the man cries, "At this rate the only way I get into heaven is by the grace of God !"

"Come on in !"

; )

Yeah, but I loved that story with the Calvinist, the Arminian and the resurrected dog! That was epic.

***Scripture describes Total Depravity -- Man HAS Free-Will Volitional Ability; but as long as a man is Unregenerate, he always hates God. And he will use his Ability to Reject God. That is the true First Point of Calvinism. Though you be an "Amyrauldian" -- would you not agree, DrSteve?***

Absolutely. Romans 1 says the unregenerate know there is a God and suppress the truth in unrighteousness. The gospel is foolish to them. A heart transplant is needed not a Candy-Gram.

OP: This is just a "Ping List" for those who profess the Martin Luther-John Calvin tradition of Unconditional Election. Your "Jeremiah Burroughs" quote is from a fine Puritan; and if you consider yourself an adherent of the Martin Luther-John Calvin tradition of Unconditional Election, I'm sure that DrSteveJ will be happy to include you (clear your Application with him; he is the Thread Pope).

Condi, OP has summarized the intent of the ping list. Let me know if you meet this criteria would like to be included.

I am sometimes more diplomatic than "Dr.Warmoose", who advocates using Arminians for 12-gauge skeet-shooting practice.

Only because there are ordinances prohibiting the burning of trash.

The Roman Church survived Pope St. Marcellinus I burning incense to the emperor as a god. I'm sure she'll survive Koran kissing.

Ohh GWB where are you??

Oh, I'm around now and then...

I thought I'd respond to the request by the Blessed Pope Piel for infamous and slanderous quotes against Christianity, i.e. Calvinist Christianity.

I quoted this once a long time back to the great horror of some Arminians who shall remain nameless. The previous quote was from a well-known Arminian seminary in the South. They didn't offer attribution. So I did find a fresh quote of this "Calvinist hymn" with an citation to one of the original sources in print. Previously, we didn't have a citation to an original source of this libel. For those unfamiliar with the term, 'Particular Baptist' is an old name for Calvinistic Baptists. Also, this particular libel seems to circulate primarily within Arminian Baptist circles.

To illustrate the smugness and ugly exclusivism of some extreme Calvinists, the following is a verse from an old Particular Baptist hymn:

              We are the Lord's elected few, Let all the rest be damned;

There's room enough in Hell for you, We won't have heaven crammed!

(Cited by Robert Sumner in The Biblical Evangelist).

Source: Middletown Bible Church

The vicious libels spewed against Calvinists never seem to end. One would think our accusers could at least provide a scanned image from this (mythical) hymnal or at least write a few more verses to make it more convincing.

I have attempted to correct the situation by writing my own music for the words and I can now play this 'hymn' at the piano...

Of course, the Presbys have us beat on this matter of hymns as I recall it...

REV 911 - I love you both as only a confused Arminian Free Methodist can, but I admit to a big coffee spewing snort when I read that LOL.

I would kindly ask Papal dispensation to be included in the ping list, to which I promise not to foul with the heretical humanism to which I find my heart strangely warmed (ref Wesley).....

Revelation 911, note the discrepancy in your self appellation and the GRPL criteria. While a dispensation will not be possible should your confusion lift your inclusion would be most welcome. I will file your application in my "hopefully future Calvinist" file.

Until such time as your application can be accepted you are welcome to be a Senior Observer (won't that make xzins jealous) from the not-yet-Calvinist contingency. You may buy any Pope Piel product EXCEPT the Pope Piel Porta-Purger™. Only Calvinists can buy the unmodified model. Others receive the product with a patch to prevent its use upon Calvinists.

***But in the end... OP as Minister of Diplomacy??

Perhaps it is enough to say, His Fishiness works in mysterious ways.***

You are better prepared for your assignment than Peter was for his when called.

I can't have a Minister of Diplomacy giving away the farm. You stand your ground and can deliver the bad news with humor and eloquence. Your precision and insight in dealing with doctrinal matters further qualifies you as exemplified by your recognition that Darby had some good points (most reformed fail to notice his Calvinism -- they are running for the dispensational garlic).

Moose, despite our perennial jousting you are invited to join the GRPL. What say ye?

BTW, it may come as a dissapointment to you but Minister of Diplomacy has already been filled.
