.................................................................

The Poetry Branch has been in limbo since the prior hostess left FreeRepublic April 15th 2003. We've since learned that said hostess has lost her posting privilege. That being the case, and Jim Robinson having given his ok, I wanted to renew the thread.

FreeRepublic is blessed with many fine poets, and we look forward to seeing their poems posted on FR once again. There were many non-poet FReepers who visited the Poetry Branch for the camaraderie; we hope they will return.

I would like to invite everyone to visit and relax at Poetry and Potpourri. Hopefully you will renew old acquaintances for chatting, sharing jokes, telling stories, posting cartoons, etc. Everyone needs a place to escape from the everyday news, make Poetry and Potpourri that place.

Morning friends. Happy Friday, everyone. Hope you have a wonderful day.

See you later.

MARINATED

Am I aging like wine
Or Limburger cheese?
A lady so fine
Or pan of old grease?

My age spots just freckles
To point out my dimples
And what of the skin tags
On my skin that just sags.

The cellulite that seems
Deep enough to plant beans
And what of the brain
That seems now insane.

If old styles come back,
I may give a whack
At wearing a chemise
To the marquees.

I'll tease up my hair
And style it with flair,
Put on those red heels
And flip some cartwheels.

My mind isn't young
And loose seems my tongue
To think that this old mare
Might still have some flair.

As the fog slips away
All nature is waking
Night melts into day

Sweet fragrance of grasses
Touched gently with dew
Bring memories and heartstopping
Dreams we once knew

How many brave souls
Wandered over these plains?
To find something better..
Their footsteps remain

Look close at the beauty
You see it, I know
And remember the prairies
Keep them safe, keep them whole

Another wondeful verse on life and the lives around her.

A wonderfully multi-faceted woman with a heart as soft a down. Who drives an automobile like Michael Schumacher, and carries a classic Walther 9mm.. Proud of her, and happy to have her for a mate and friend....

A guy dials home from work. A strange woman answers.

"Who is this?"
"This is the maid."
"We don't have a maid!"
"I was just hired this morning by the lady of the house."
"Well, this is her husband. Is she there?"
"Ummm..... she's upstairs with someone whom I just figured was her husband."

The guy is fuming.

" Listen, would you like to make 50,000 bucks?"
"What do I have to do?"
"I want you to get my gun from my desk in the den and shoot that lady and the jerk she is with."

The maid puts down the phone. The guy hears the footsteps, followed by two gunshots. The maid comes back to the phone.

"What should I do with the bodies?"
"Throw them in the swimming pool!"
"What? But there's no pool here!"

Long pause.........................

"Uh.. Is this 832-4825?"
"No."
"Oh.. Sorry......Wrong number.."

I need to check the paper and see if it was a crop duster and if so whether the pilot is okay.

When you lose electricity, you are reminded of the UPS that's on your list of things to get.

Morning Amy! That recipe sounds like the kind of thing you eat on a cold morning right before you jump back into bed!

To me, it sounds like something needed after a long night on the town when you can't get out of bed. Can't even raise your head!

Good Morning, Misty. Are you sticking around today or leaving us to do some sewing? Maybe a little of both?

How sad. I am sorry for your loss. :( It must have been difficult for you at a young age, but good that you were able to write something...better that you kept it. I think I threw away everything that I ever wrote during that age of my life. I wish I hadn't.

Usually when we lose our electricity I'm reminded of the batteries we needed to buy! :-)
