How much do Rx sunglasses cost? [vanity]
Posted on 08/16/2003 6:34:27 PM PDT by sdk7x7
Fellow FReepers... I have a non-news question, hopefully you can help me out. I just got a coupon in the mail from Lens Crafters for 50% off prescription sunglasses. As a general rule, how much do prescription sunglasses cost? $100-$200? Anybody have any idea? Thanks.

I have never spent more than 15 bucks on sunglasses as that is an item I seem to lose constantly. I think spending anymore on such a trivial thing as sunglasses is ludicruous. But my older brother loves to indulge such "hip" things and sports some designer sunglasses that can bend in all different ways and are made out of some space age material stuff. He spent over 300. I mock him all the time for that purchase.

Well, i had a a set of Oakley frames that I put prescription lenses in, and they ran me $86 (and that was at Wal-Mart) but they've been well worth it.

They're not trivial, when you need glasses to begin with.
And if you're nearsighted like me, and want good polarized lenses, you're gonna spend at least 50 bucks a lens.

I paid 193 for varilux and 123 for bi focals. I would say they should cost less than $100.00. Go to costco, they are the best priced glasses around, target is good too.

Well- for people who need perscription sunglasses - like you- no- I guess they are not- but for someone like my brother to shell out that kind of money just to look "hip"- I think it is funny.

mdittmar said above, "A moose once bit my sister." To which goldstategop replied, "In her heinie? LMAO!!! That's the funniest off topic non-response I've read in this thread!"
I understand it was a series injury. The bite was hugh! Perahps we'll hear more after mdittmar gets out of the shower, unless mdittmar is off somewhere moving someone's cheese.

I don't want to say that Free Republic is getting a little bit off target but ....>>>
FR has a CHAT area just for this type of question and thread.

Make sure you pay extra and get them porarized. That will cost a few extrea bucks, but it is well worth it.

Can't remember what I paid for my only pair of Rx sunglasses, but...
The first sunny weekend I was using them, I noticed something odd. They were polarized, but one lens was fitted off by
90o.
Sort of gave a shimmer to the edge of things. If you get polarized, just look through another pair
of polarized glasses at the same time. If you can see, the grating is hopefully parallel in both.

It varies - I generally will get mine done as part of a special. My present pair of sunglasses are my previous pair of day-to-day glasses, treated to make the lenses darker.

Was his sister really injured?? I've never understood a moose to bite someone in their rear. That's why I thought it sounded like a backwoods legend. Oh well.

I don't trust Lasik. I think in 20 years we are going to have a bunch of people running around blind as a bat, since the scarring in theit eyes will become rigid and they will go from 20-15 to 20-400 overnight. Those of us with glasses will then rule the world!

I agree with you... but I'm not buying them for the aesthetic purposes, I need something so that I can see the damn road when it's sunny.

The 'moose bit my sister', 'moving cheese', 'hugh', and 'series' are all from the Freeper-folklore department, like 'all your bases are belong to us'...

Then I have no clue about sunglasses or what you should buy. You know those racks of cheap sunglasses in the Drug store? That is what I buy from.
