The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Bluegrass is good stuff! I'm much better at listening to it than I am at playing, but I still like to go to the jams and play chords.
The best local mandolinist gets miffed at me occasionally I think, though...'cause I have a dandy mandolin that I'm using for IRISH and SCOTTISH stuff, 'steada using it the way Bill Monroe intended. ;) I'm getting to the point where I can sometimes improvise a decent lead, but it don't sound 'grassy. Ah well.

And yes, in VIRGINIA it's "American Indian" not "Native American"...ask the Indians... Glad to hear it that way.
I'm a Native American, I was was born here!

Glad to hear it that way. The former chair of the Virginia Council on Indians was a personal friend of mine. She passed away after a long struggle with cancer. She had been helping me try to locate my native American ancestor.

She had been helping me try to locate my native American ancestor. That's cool. Msdrby is vey series about geneaology. Her family tree(forest) has 13500+ names already. My Grandma had traced a branch of our family to their arrival in North American in 1646.

I've done some research on the family. Got a will probated in 1733 from one of the first ancestors with the family surname. But I've not been able to find when that branch actually got here.
Have another line traced all the way back to the 1600s in France. They were Huguenots and settled on the "western" border around the late 1600s. I have a letter from the Governor of the colony saying "what do I do with these people?" They put them out as a defense against the Indians.
I have the marriage of the Indian woman into the family listed on a 1791 census, but no surname is given. My aunt thought the Indian blood was a generation later. But I think it's this woman. I think she was Cherokee, but I'm not certain.
