The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…

Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

The Road Goes Ever On…

The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

Aim High

Heh...my mom thought that slogan was really stupid. She said, "If you aim high, aren't you going to miss the target?" Yeah, I know what they really mean, but I had to laugh!

That's funny.

In Basic, we had 10 rounds to zero the M-16. Mine had been WAY off. Despite my corrections, it still shot to the left. I qualified okay, but no better. Every time after that, I qualified as marksman.

Heh...I WOULD have gotten marksman if I'd done as well in the qualifying round as I did in the practice they gave us. I did well then - almost all right near the target. Then the instructor came by and adjusted my sights 'cause he said they weren't centered. And consequently, I just qualified - one shot over. It was kinda depressing. ;)

I hadn't known that one of the kids was born in Palm Beach County. Wonder if they will vote for Buchanan by mistake up there again? I am expecting it.

Yep. Abigail was born in WPB! She's my clone! Just perfect.

Turned out that Jill's and Tom's votes were in with the military absentee ballots from Palm Beach County. They'd just gone from WPB to Germany. Know where those went?

ARRGHHHH! Don't get me started!

The fact that a LOT of my friends were still overseas at that time and doing the absentee ballot thing made me FURIOUS about that whole deal. All of the ones I know of were for Bush, too - of course, MOST of the military hated Clinton / Gore, so no big surprise there.

Bummer. I was on mobility status after I got to my permanent station. I had to shoot yearly. After a few times, they would let me shoot as often. Brass thought it was unnecessary for me to use so much ammo to stay proficient.

ARGHHH! Being addicted to playing music is a curse, I tell ya!

This weekend at the festival I got a kewl new book o' tunes and a CD with some tunes I want to learn. I figured out a really neat set during lunch today (have my mandolin here), but now lunch is over and they're playing over and over in my head and I wanna play so bad it hurts - plus I need to get my brothers' opinion and make 'em play the new tunes with me. Neeeeeed! I hope I can survive until quitting time...

I remember the Democrats trying to disqualify the military votes, though I think they did not succeed in it.

Don't get me started on my American Indian heritage...

And yes, in VIRGINIA it's "American Indian" not "Native American"...ask the Indians...

thought of you yesterday... went to a fish fry at a local VFD... they had a local Bluegrass Band "Once't in a While" playin'... two guitars, banjo, mandolin, bass and fiddle... it was fun and the kids enjoyed it...
