The Hobbit Hole IV – The Road Goes Ever On…
Posted on 08/04/2003 9:43:18 AM PDT by HairOfTheDog
Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!
The Road Goes Ever On
The Road goes ever on and on
Down from the door where it began.
Now far ahead the Road has gone,
And I must follow, if I can,
Pursuing it with eager feet,
Until it joins some larger way
Where many paths and errands meet.
And whither then? I cannot say.

I am returned!
It took a half hour: 5 minutes drive there, 5 minutes drive back, and 20 minutes in the store. There was a crowd!
Full report in a few minutes... we're watching the ROTK preview now!

There was a crowd at my WalMart too.
And I kid in the parking lot dropped a crotchrocket and didn't know what to do.

OK, so, I pulled out of the driveway at 11:55 pm, and arrived at Walmart at 12:00. I walked in at about 12:01 am, heading for the electronics department, figuring I'd pick up a copy of the DVD and walk out, just like I did with FOTR. It was not to be!
Halfway to the electronics department, a mob of about 30 people comes streaming out of it, heading for the checkouts. I think, "OK, they've got their copies, now I'll get mine." I go into the department and start looking for the DVD, and it's not there! No copies anywhere! But, there are no empty spots either, so they're not sold out...
I walk back towards the checkouts, and see the crowd has formed up in a single line at one checkout. I think maybe they have the DVDs at the checkout, so I join the line. Sure enough! The line was actually formed so that they could give out one of the promotional rings to everyone buying a copy of the DVD. After a few minutes, an employee came walking down the line handing out these little yellow plastic rings in plastic baggies. Yippee. A couple of minutes later the same guy came down the line with a cart full of DVDs, asking each person in line if they wanted full screen or wide screen (got the wide screen here). Once everyone had their copy, they all split for different checkouts and it emptied out pretty quick!
There were about 30 people ahead of me, and an equal number behind me... quite a change from my midnight run for FOTR, when there wasn't any crowd!
Oh, when I got home, I found out from Rose that our cable connection has gone down, so I'm posting this on dialup! Yuck!

When I got LOTR, it was displayed at the front of the WalMart. For some reason I was going through Marble Falls at this time last year. I expected to just walk in and find a display near front but had to go all the way to electronics and wait in the line. Line snaking through electronics, down the aisle to shoes. But, I wasn't far enough back to be out of electronics. And then their machine that does debit cards went out. About 1/2 the people in line in front of me had debit cards. I got out my checkbook and did it the old-fashioned way.

Something similar to this one:
The boy didn't know how to ride the thing. Started it standing beside it. In gear, went to mount it and I guess loosed the clutch, twisted the wick accidentally and it got away from him while he was in the process of trying to mount.
i did not want to laugh because the guy could have really hurt himself. but, he was okay. and only bought the bike today. and in need of instruction.
It was a sad sad situation. And I would love to have it on video so you could all see it!

I made a midnight run for FOTR last year as well... they had a big cardboard display set up just outside of electronics, no line at all! Just grabbed a DVD and went to the checkout. There was a line there, but it was "normal".
See my report here!

Thank you for explaining! It all makes sense now.
I am tired, and dealing with dial-up is taxing what little patience I have left, so I think I'm going to sign off for tonight.
Have a good night!

Gads....spent the evening on the phone with the tech guy from Compaq....got this piece of junk running, I hope. He is calling back in the morning to make sure it's OK. I think I held for a tech person for a least an hour, so I packed while holding and listening to "Compaq/AOL commercials and that sappy music....I thought I was going to just go nuts right then and there...but at least got some packing done. Terry is not here so I don't know if I have enough sense to make the Walmart run for TTT and a large piece of luggage for Flat Frodo, as I had planned.
BTW, Ms. Hair, the pictures of SW Texas and Western Louisiana came out great. I was going to try to post some, but I just can't tonight. We have them on disk, so I'll take them with me to Calif. and see if Aimee' will help me.
Really tried, but did want you to know computer is sorta up (please pray for it to stay that way) and the Flat Frodo pictures are good..so he has made it to Louisiana.
Oh proud2btexasgal, Flat Frodo and his traveling companions (us) had some wonderful boudain while we were there... thought of you. "Zummo's Cajun Style Boudain"...Flat Frodo loved it, he also had seafood gumbo. I'm enclosing the flat packages of both for his journey.
Good night all..enjoy the "Towers" for me.

Well, good morning!
I am the proud owner of The Two Towers. I grabbed a copy at Walmart on the way in to work. I don't imagine I'll have much time to watch any of it, 'cuz I'll be on the phone grouching at the clinical morons at Gemcraft Homes.
They're playing innocent, "Oh, Gee. I just don't know why our financial people told you that. Gosh, I'm looking at my calendar and your house is moving right along."
Yeah, if you call 8 months and a failed framing inspection moving right along.

they could give a rat's butt about a gimped up vet... I really don't know how you restrain yourself from bashing their heads in. Honestly. We'll be keeping you guys in our prayers.

Good morning!
I got Steve to grouch at the power company for not coming to get this pole! They said they'd try to get here sooner...no date or time. So I sits and waits. Every evening at around six, I give up and let the chickens out to range.

shh...don't tell anyone...leaving work early so I can watch it tonight...good mornin'

Mornin'. Sorry I couldn't stay up to celebrate. But the wife did pick up our copy. Didn't have time to check if she got the widescreen tho. I
think she knows that by now...
Overslept this a.m. Made it to work on time, but not the gym. Since I was up until almost 2:00 a.m. finishing that mailing, I'm not gonna feel too bad about it.
When's the chat view?

Well...thanks for the prayers guys, I guess!
I slept well...but also didn't hear my alarm clock. It was on and all set, so it MUST have gone off, but I don't remember it. ;)
I'm probably working late tonight anyway, so I'm forgiven.
Don't know when I'll get around to watching TTT. I'm going to wait until the extended edition to buy a copy, but I want to rent one sometime soon!
To: Corin Stormhands
When's the chat view? When SSQ builds my new computer he's gonna put a DVD drive in it so's I can do chat viewin too! We're waiting to hear if we were able to get a copy of the MS Windows Acadamic XP Professional Upgrade. I sent in 'proof' of our being homeschoolers, so I hope they'll approve that. SSQ wants to set the new box up with the new system.
Haven't gotten TTT yet. Gonna wait until the kids are done with their work for today. Both of them need to finish their American History so we can start the 'new year'!

I am familiar with H.P. Lovecraft. It has been a while since I read any of his stuff though. From my old lady memory..fascinating writer but at some point he conflicted with my religion to a point I stopped reading his stuff. (we are talking 30 yrs ago) I would probably not have a problem so much now. I remember he scared me, but then, so did William Blake. Fear is such the by-product of innocence.?
