New York If one off-hand remark got The Dixie Chicks international response, imagine the buzz that will come after Friday's one-hour exclusive interview with Diane Sawyer. Natalie Maines, Emily Erwin and Martie Seidel will be the sole guests on a special edition of "Primetime," on ABC Friday night.
Meanwhile, despite the supposed outcry, people are snapping up Dixie Chick concert tickets. Their agent, Rob Light, tells Billboard that despite some backlash at radio and retail after that "we're embarrassed he's from Texas" comment about President Bush, the Dixie Chicks are flying high. Light says that of 59 shows, only six have seats left, and those are all 85-90% sold-out.
The Chicks' tour kicks off May 1 in Greenville, South Carolina, and concludes August 4 in Nashville.

What can they even talk about for a whole hour?

I can just picture Diane asking how the evil Republicans have tried to ruin her life. They will make that warbling whale into a victim, and people who disagree with her into knuckle-dragging, racist hicks.

If there is no problem why go on Primetime for an entire hour?

You can bet these things are arranged by the corporate heads, talent agents with gravitas and high flying execs. The Chickens are (or at least were) big money, like Coca Cola and DelMonte canned tomatoes. The news, I always say, is not these staged, stagey events, but what goes on behind the stage and what led to it. Unfortunately, we seem to have lost sight of that. Diane must think she's slumming, she'd rather interview a real intellect (in her Park Avenue mind) like Assistant Professor Nick DeGenova. Yeah!

Hello Lady Lawyer,
For one idea of what conservatives should do with their concert tickets (and why it would make an impact), please take a look at my post (#94) on a similar thread:

What can they even talk about for a whole hour?"Oh, you know.....stuff. We were, like, touring, you know and I made this little, you know, funny about how I'm ashamed of the president and, this is so unfair, some people got all icky about it. Then, everyone made me apologize and that, you know, was like, not good enough. Soooooooo (eyes rolling), I had to apologize again. Then, I was like, 'whatevvvvver,' I don't need this crap so now I just don't, like, care what people think. That Tim Robbins is so deep. Have you bought our album yet?"

a special edition of "Primetime,"Isn't that like that old show "Blossom?" They were ALL special.

If you can stand it, go to the concert and wear your finest pro-American gear. Otherwise, don't go, and hope a slew of empty seats make it crystal clear as to public opinion. Just don't sell them to some other leftie to go and enjoy it, and to allow the media to report that the Chix' popularity has never been higher.

I looked in my crystal ball this afternoon (no, really.) I saw something, not very clear, incomplete, I'm afraid, and fuzzy. I'll have to check the tea leaves after I finish drinking the tea, but here, with apologies for the fragmentary nature of the prediction, here is what the crystal ball says:
One half of Diane's questions will start with: "How do you feel..." or "How does that make you feel?

"Meanwhile, despite the supposed outcry, people are snapping up Dixie Chick concert tickets." It was reported weeks ago that the concerts were mostly sold out before the stupid remark. So how can people be "snapping up" tickets? For that matter, how can ABC be quite so blatantly dishonest? And who is Diane Sawyer? Although I think I don't really want to know.

And what a hard hitting interview it will be too.
Sawyer: "Don't you think it is terrible how those mean spirited conservatives are trying to censor your right to free speech?"

Hopefully, it makes her feel stupid...probably not though, she said she was proud to be a dummy already, I think.

The DixChix are still one of the wonders of the music biz. They have sold a phenomenal amount of CDs (I believe they are the only act that currently has TWO CDs on Billboard charts that have sold more than TEN MILLION units --
Wide Open Spaces and
Fly). A good deal of fans will remain loyal to them no matter what -- even R. Kelly's fans don't care about what he does.
But just because they are selling tickets doesn't mean they have lost their -- dare I say it? -- sheen. They have offended a large portion of their target audience, and, I suspect, have lost them for good.
They still won't be singing for tips anytime soon. But they know a PR disaster when they see one, and that's why they have enlisted Diane Sawyer to help them out. They know from her interviews with Michael Jackson & Lisa Marie Presley and Rosie O'Donnell she's a celebrity keister-kissing softballer.
