On this we agree - Mrs.L said that the blood work should have been done way before the surgery. Many checks and re-checks should have been performed.
In surgical hospitals like this, the doctors just glove-up, expecting that all the rest of the team has done their work as well as they will do theirs.
They check nothing, they expect everything to be done correctly.
Perhaps this is why every pilot is expected to Pre-Flight his own aircraft.

Her mother and she were smuggled in about four years ago, and got on the waiting list at Duke. You know the rest. Just getting on the list shows they are insane. If you survive the surgery and the recovery, a very big if, your life expectancy then is only about 1 year.
If my choice comes down to that, I will try to use the time I have left and then die in one piece. I would never put a child of mine thru that for at most an extra year of life and probably death without ever recovering.
Doctors are playing Frankenstein on people hoping to develop the techniques to be successful in 20 years. That is fine and good, but not on me or mine.

I agree Loddy...if they had come to the country like the family did with the little twins who required that massive surgery to seperate them perhaps none of this would have happened.
That said, I think there should be some sort of inquiry as to why the blood type was not properly cross typed in the first place. This mistake needs to be avoided in future.
To: celtic gal
Yep - I would hate to be the poor soul who mis-read or mis-wrote the blood types.
As Swerve noted, this replacement surgery is so new, that it will be years and years before it's routine and successful beyond a few months or years.
However, this was an egregious foul-up and the lawyers are licking their chops over the body.
