I decided to have mercy on the sleeping men, and didn't rattle the pots and pans. However, I did drop the can opener when I opened a fresh can of coffee, so in my own small way, I welcomed in the new year.

Our youngest man/child is home from college for the weekend, so any dreams of a weekend without cooking have been placed on HOLD.

Our dog Maggie brought in the new year by barking all night.

I love this picture. Our neighbors have one of these dogs. He always comes running like he's gonna eat me alive. But all he wants is me to play with him.


Good morning all you faithful Freepers. Had to laugh at you IG. Whenever I try to be quiet, that is when I drop the heaviest things, squeek the loudest door, run into some furniture and turn the tv on thinking I can get it turned down faster than I actually can.

34 here today and still raining. Has rained for the last 3 days.

Morning kassie. I'm up after just about 4 hours of sleep. That makes two nights in a row of lousy sleep. I guess it's cuz I'm sharing the room with two sickies: my wife and our youngest daughter.

Did you notice that even Google is getting into the celebration of Chinese New Year today? Today is the beginning of the year of the sheep (or goat).

We are going to a Chinese buffett tomorrow, wonder if that will count.

I am sure you have heard of 'hatchet man', someone who takes care of rouge Chinese, probally seen it in the movies. BUT, they had (probally still do) have hatchet men. A Chinese family would come from the old country, a 'association' of Chinese on the west coast would give them money to get started in the new world. IF they failed, they would help them again, fail that third time and don't pay then back, steal from them, the hatchet men would visit them and would kill them. This is true, in my years of law enforcenment we had a large population of Chinese and I have seen killings by them two times, always used a bored out barrell pistol and shot them in the back of the head, hands tied behind them. A little war story my friend for you.

I know something about those Chinese triads or gangs. They still operate in Hong Kong and Taiwan. The Communists managed to pretty much wipe them out in China, but they are making a comeback there too.

My b-i-l is a DA here and recently had a Chinese man held here who had come from New York. He may have been a hatchet man. Didn't speak English so New York sent down a couple of officers including one who spoke Chinese and my b-i-l had to work with them.
