Not even real milk..except for cheese. If you want milk it should be cream or half and half. What I meant by that was an eight ounce glass of 2% is over 11 carbs....whole milk is slightly less. Far too high in carbs. I suppose if you were to use it for coffee it would be all right.

I can't tell you how important I think it is to read the book. I heard all about the diet from someone who had success with it and he gave me the book. I ignored the book and used it only for occasional reference. I was going just based on what he had told me, but I didn't get far.
Three years later I actually got around to reading it and it made all the difference. Without knowing how it works and what you can and can't do, there are just too many pitfalls.
It's not bad reading, either. I know reading a diet book isn't high on anyone's list of things to do, but you can learn a lot that will really change your life. I particularly liked the angle that the Atkins diet is considered anathema by the medical establishment. It gave me great pleasure to lose weight easily and deliciously, and know that I was becoming another "proof" that the medical establishment was full of hot air in re to Atkins.
By the way, don't overlook the benefit this diet has on one's cholesterol and triglycerides. My numbers improved dramatically in 3-4 months on the diet. And I lost over 35 lbs along the way.
