In order that we might all raise the level of discourse and expand our language abilities, here is the daily post of word for the day. Rules: Everyone must leave a post using the word of the day; in a sentence. The sentence must, in some way, relate to the news of the day. The Review threads are linked for your edification. ;-) Practice makes perfect.....post on....
obdurate\OB-du-rit; OB-dyu-rit\, adjective:
1. Hardened in feelings, especially against moral or mollifying influences; unyielding; hard-hearted; stubbornly wicked.
2. Hard; harsh; rugged; rough; intractable.
Etymology: Obdurate is from Latin obduratus, past participle of obduro, obdurare, to be hard against, from ob-, intensive prefix + durus, hard.
Synonyms: Hard; firm; unbending; inflexible; unyielding; stubborn; obstinate; impenitent; callous; unfeeling; insensible; unsusceptible.
Usage: Obdurate, Callous, Hardened. Callous denotes a deadening of the sensibilities; as, "a callous conscience." Hardened implies a general and settled disregard for the claims of interest, duty, and sympathy; as, "hardened in vice." Obdurate implies an active resistance of the heart and will against the pleadings of compassion and humanity.

don't the one on the left look like Chucky? If you were to wake up slightly hungover with your arm under the one on the left, you might risk waking her up to pull your arm out from under her and then run like the devil to get away. If you were to wake up slightly hungover with your arm under the one on the right, however, you would gnaw your own arm off at the shoulder rather than risk waking her up. That is "coyote ugly"

Going to bed the other night I noticed that there were people in my shed stealing things.
I phoned the police but was told that there was nobody in the area to help. They said they would send somebody over as soon as possible.
I hung up. A minute later I rang again. 'Hello', I said. 'I called you a minute ago because I said there were people in my shed. You don't have to hurry now because I've shot them.'
Within minutes there were half a dozen police cars in the area, plus helicopters and an armed response unit. They caught the burglars red-handed.
One of the officers said: 'I thought you said you'd shot them.'
To which I replied: 'I thought you said there was no one available.'

i remain extremely humbly grateful to the deity for the blessings of the most wonderful coquette in the whole wide world. therefore, I am highly unlikely (Thankfully) to wind up in either situation.
that said, the one on the right would probably not chase you, run you down, and gnaw off your anatomy. Chucky seems to have a mianical grin that looks rather chilling

Last time I had trespassers (several years ago), I phoned the PD. they were on about something when I hollered "Wake up kid, go get me the Sporter and the night scope".
I had two carloads of cops at the door within 30 seconds. They caught the miscreants, who were the neighbor's kids, and read tham the riot act, etc.
prosecution wasn't necessary. in fact it probably did some good. one of tthe little brats came over the other day to tell me that one of the cats was sick. He led me to where the beast was, ans we took it to the vet. both are fine now, and the kids all wave at me. (with ALL fingers)
