That's so cool, Mo. You're really getting your Dad's story pieced together. Keep it up. Yes, but my eyes are gonna pop put of my head from reading
Plus, it opens up other questions that I need to figure out
Like he joined the Army in May, 1942 but the 69th didn't start up till May, 1943 .. so where was he at between that time.
Then there is the story my mother always told that he was in the Battle of the Bulge which was in Dec, 1944 .. but the 271st did join in until Feb, 1945 .. but then I read that a bunch of guys were sent over earlier and they were in that battle, so now I have to figure out if he was there or not.
I sent out a few emails to men that were in the 271st so I guess I'll find out sooner or later with the story is

You are doing a great job piecing together your father's story. Some time ago, Swervie suggested that I get my father's service records. I now have a copy of his discharge papers, a good place to start. A friend at the range, who is retired army, suggested I write to my congressional rep, and send a copy of the discharge papers. I'm dropping that letter in the mail today. We'll see what I can find out. I'm going to ask my mom if she knows of any army buddies of dad's that may still be alive, but that's probably going to go nowhere. I can remember only one that dad kept in touch with, and Dad has been dead for 11 years. Any buddies of his would be late seventies, early eighties. It's worth a try, though.

Judge Judy got a 4 year contract at $25 mill per year. Considering ratings, I wonder what jerry Springer is making. The Ohio Dems already want him back in politics. With enough money to pay for his own race, he could be in the Senate in a few years.

Hey Cheri, thanks I've been trying for few years and now it's finally starting to get all pieced together. All I had at the time was his name and that he was in the Army with the 69th. I wrote to my Senator and was able to obtain a paper/certificate/whatever it's called stating his time in service.
There was a fire back in 1973 that destroyed a lot of military records. Not all of them were, but my luck, dad's happen to be one of them. You might have more luck then I did. Having his discharge papers is a good start. My mom had dad's in the safe deposit box, but I could never get her to get them for me. My sister was going to give me some more pictures of dad's time during the war, but when mom found the pictures sitting out she hid them. So now my sister is in search of where mom put them. Mom's not all with it these days.
Then when I was talking to my oldest brother, I found out that he had my dad's dog tags. It's a long story but there was a HUGE fallout with my dad's family after he died (30 yrs ago) and we didn't talk to them. Well it turns out that my 2nd oldest brother did and my aunt had mailed a few things to him that were dad's, but he didn't say anything for fear mom would get upset over it. Like I said it a REALLY long story.
Anyway, it's really neat learning about the things back then and the men that served. I found out that there are are a couple books written about Dad's division, that there is some kind of memorial building at Camp Shelby, Mississippi were he trained and they put out a Bulletin every quarter with news & updates, along with stories of their days during the war. I just received my first copy of it. Plus they have Reunions every year where the men, their wives and kids get together.
You should really look into your dad's service, it's alot of fun and your dad's division just might have some sort of website up and running. I've found that a lot of men from my dad's division have computers and surf the web all the time, and the ones that don't have their kids posts something in the guest book on how to contact them. Now I just need to find someone that knew dad so I can piece together more information.
Here is a link that may help you in your search for your dad's information.

Don't tell him I didn't see his TV appearance - I'm sure he would be heartbroken after sending special messages like that for me over the air. *LOL*
