The Hobbit Hole III - Journey to the Cross-roads!

Posted on 12/17/2002 7:32:02 AM PST by HairOfTheDog

Welcome to The Hobbit Hole!

Journey to the Cross-roads

The Two Towers Edition

Come on! Come in! -if you would like to have some seedcakes and a pint and relax a while. (If it is a special occasion, we still have a few bottles of the old wineyards left!)

Our first thread ( New Zealander builds Hobbit hole ) reached 4,100 posts, and we thought that was big. Our second thread (The New Hobbit Hole ) held us for over 48,000 posts, and we loved it dearly. We talked about moving to a new thread for the last 38,000 posts, but we are really slow to muster! Finally, the time has come. Tomorrow (at 12:01 am, to be precise!) The Two Towers comes out, and we start a new chapter.

Oooh, this will be a fun one, no? How about some stuff like M&Ms or some of the little candy coated chocolate easter eggs (Hershey makes some, I know)...chocolate, but hopefully less melty than candy bars? And drink mixes for sure. That's a good one.

There are such things as "tropical" chocolate bars. They're made with different types of fats, and don't melt. They taste like semi-sweet chocolate, and are pretty good, because I've had them. They're available at bigger camping stores, and probably online. If anyone thinks this is a good idea, I can shop around for a deal, like a case or something.

I think it is a good idea... I think they have more wax in them, but they taste good!

Yep, you're right. I've had those too. Didn't even think of those! Definitely worth looking into, though they ARE somewhat expensive, I think.

Hmm? There are other kinds of candy?

My mom perfected the making of peanut-butter pinwheels years ago. They're a family favorite with all of my cousins. None of the other aunts or cousins could ever get them quite right. I remember her making some and shipping it off to my cousins in the 60s. Couldn't do that now.

Maybe I'll just have her send me some...

That sounds like a great idea!

Yes, drink mixes. Sweetened tea mix, lemonade mix, sweetened cool-aid mix. They may not be name brand, but I bet a I can get a bunch of it at Big Lot's or something.

From what I understand, the water isn't very tasty.

Overtaxed, what are you making in your still?

I'm evaporating the solvents out of my rice extracts.

My Dad used to make chocolate fudge for Christmas each year... one pan with nuts, one pan without. I only ate from the plain pan... I don't like anything getting in the way of my chocolate.

Heh, my Dad's fudge recipe was better than my Grandma's recipe...

Do you get alcohol that way?
