It doesn't matter what kind of war record Thurman had, he is a southerner. The dems wants the republican party to be clensed of thoughts and everything else, and they are winning. Byrd? Naw, no problem, he is a democract. Hollingings? same thing. THEN, there are republicans, thats a whole new ball game.
To: CONSERVE
The blacks are NOT going to be republican, what was it, less than 5% voted with us last election? Is there going to be a magic wand waved and they start being republicans? Nope, that would be believing in the tooth fairy.

I have got to run to La and look at a tractor, be back in a coup0le of hours.
Here is wishing all a happy day, it is a day that the Lord hath made.

I think that Senator Lott should say he will only resign from the Senate if Senator Byrd also resigns. And Hollings.
I think the appearance on BET last night only made matters worse. The transcript is posted and it seems to me he made it sound like he was sorry, but he couldn't help it as the whole South and the GOP is racist.
I am certain he didn't mean that, but that is what the transcript looks like.
And McCain is making moves on running for leadership. Blech! And I just don't see any easy way out of this, no matter which way it goes.
I am thinking the best thing would be if Senator Lott checks into a hospital for exhaustion and extensive tests. It would keep reporters from getting him to say anything else damaging, McConnell could be "acting majority leader," the Republicans would maintain the majority, and Lott could retain his senate seat without being harrassed by the Rats.
Well, I know this is probably not honest, but I am desperately trying to think of something that won't make things worse!

I am certain he didn't mean that, but that is what the transcript looks like. He really does seem to have trouble saying what he means, doesn't he?
I've been irritated at Lott since before this gaffe and this raised my level of irritation. But what really boiled my blood was when I heard he may resign the Senate altogether if he can't be Majority Leader. If that's true, the guy has definitely served his usefulness and it's time for him to go.
On the other hand, I hate to contemplate giving one more seat to the Dems who did NOT earn it!
To: Mr. Mulliner
I don't believe he said it. Apparently Mitch McConnell said it during a meeting, but it was speculation on his part.
Lott could do himself a big favor in the history books if he steps down and stays in the Senate and works really hard for his state and for a genuine reconciliation between the races, based on mutual respect and honesty.
I wish someone would talk to him and explain this. Maybe they have and he is too dim to understand the damage he has caused.

I wish there was some way to forward this concept on to the "Right Folks".

Well, I hesitated to post it on the forum, but since we are sort of hidden here in cheeseville I thought it would be ok.
Sending you a freepmail in a minute.

I think that Senator Lott should say he will only resign from the Senate if Senator Byrd also resigns. And Hollings. You know the problem with that, right? It sounds good politically, but it is terrible leadership. As tempting as it might be to do this, we cannot allow our party to do this routine of "I'll take my medicine if he takes his!"
I think the GOP has made the most strides forward when it has ignored how things play in the media and got over the unfairness of the political landscape. If we do what's right, we'll get the gains. But for Lott to say he'll resign only if Byrd and Hollings resign makes him sound even more like a Democrat than he already does.
To: Mr. Mulliner
Perhaps the best thing would be for Senator Lott to stay in the senate and invite Senator Byrd to work with him on minority outreach.
Byrd might leave in a fit of pique. Ha!
To: Miss Marple
I LOVE it!
To: Miss Marple
I've just got the pick-up loaded again so I'm off to the new house again to unload.
To: Mr. Mulliner
One must remember, Lott has not been working with a 60 to 40 majority over the dems in the Senate, we have been hog tied when it comes to getting anything, Lott has had to bargin with the dem to get anything, that is face. So, you barter back and forth, that is if you want a little something. We do have a couple or Republicracts on our side you know, they vote more on the democract side than our.
I am off for my walk, waited for it to warm up a tad, suppone to get 75 today, not bad for a Tuesday.
Oh Yeah, the tractor I went and looked at? TERRIBLE looking, didn't even get out of the car, turned around and came home.

I just got back from picking up my uniforms from the cleaners and getting my hair cut. I've got some young men coming out sometime this afternoon to help get the yard cleaned up.

Are you trying to tell us something, John?Just that I'm using my free time wisely, and not sleeping in till noon every day that I'm off. ;>)
I'm also going to begin cleaning the garage. Being off until the 6th of January may not be long enough for that task though. Sheesh, what a mess.
