Well I don't know about that one, but we do have the evolutionary regression of DUh'ers.
I'm still trying to make the transition from cromag to dirt farmer.... Thank God for Grocery stores or I would have starved to death!
Well, then there is no reason to think about it is there. if there is anything he wants us to know, it will show up in the Bible.
Life will be simple.
Squalid, but simple

For instance, geology has at its roots some basic theories, the primary one being that of "the steady state" or that processes that are observable today are the key to what happened in the past. Erosion is a good example of this idea. You can measure erosion today and rightfully postulate that over thousands of years it will change the terrain greatly wherever you are. that is why it is science. Processes which you can watch, experiment with and actually repeatedly prove exist are used to extrapolate what happened in the past. Glaciation is the best example of the use of this theory to discover the ice ages of the past.
There are several things about evolutionary theory that have serious problems when you call it a science. The main one is that it is not repeatable and observable. It is not provable using scientific method. No species has evolved into another since the theory was postulated. Not in a lab...not anywhere.
So why do you call it a science? It can't use scientific method to prove its theory.
There are lots of other problems with the theory. It is not nearly as good as you are saying and a lot of "scientists", not just fundie ones are beginning to agree. The problem with disagreeing is that you have to deal with the establishment at the University that is invested in this theory being true. It's much like the story of Copernicus in reverse. Anyone that challenges the theory is branded a radical, non-thinking, fundamentalist. They have replaced science with the new dogma...
Darwin said it.
I believe it.
That settles it!
*gasp*
Sedimentation, volcanic upheaval, etc. are very different than the evolution of species.
Hey...I was a geology student once. My sister is a PHD in the field and has worked studying earthquakes for a long time. She's very good. I respect science a lot.
Oh yeah......
Freeoples threads.
Hey, so was I. I grew up in a household of Petroleum Geologists. My dad was President of several Oil Companies, and a visiting Fellow of th AAPG. He gave graduate lectures at Universities all over the country. Petroleum geology is a very different thing than conventional geology because you are looking for organic materials. Stratigraphy is dated and defined by micropaleontology, which is grounded in evolution.
In both Geology and Evolution gradualism is the theory of the early 20th century. Catastrophism and punctuated equilibrum have carved huge exceptions out of those theories.
Continents do collide, climates do change rapidly and unpredictably, asteroids do impact, whole ecosystems are destroyed.

I read itr, I sure didn't understand it. I still don't

I'm fascinated by it all. Very cool stuff.
Sounds like an interesting field, although my sister would never work for "big oil", she works for the US gov. Do you still do this stuff?
My father finished graduate school in '42 and was more or less drafted into the USGS during the war. No one wants to work for "Big Oil" unless at a very high level. They just pay a salary. People want to work for "Little Oil" Independant Operators, where you can get a Royalty Interest or Working Interest in the prospects you develop. On the other hand, I never heard a Republican call it "Big Oil" that is a Democrat Term. Pubbies call them "The Majors".
I never really did this stuff, cause I never graduated, but I can read seismic and stratigraphic maps, and interpret a well log. I did a lot of lease work, and put together a few packages of my own that I sold to independant operators for cash to cover costs, and a Royalty interest.
Tell your sister that John D. Rockefeller died.
"Big Oil" is not evil, just excesively burocratic, like the USGS.

My sister would probably use the term and believe it. She thinks Rockefeller left explicit instructions to harm the planet and that capitalism is eevil.
PHD's aren't always well balanced in their thinking.
No kidding...
