I think I'm starting to get a handle on the Trent Lott situation. First of all, I think his comments were idiotic, and he should know better. That being said, I think the RATS are playing this up for another reason.
Right now, they're calling for an apology, and his resignation as Majority Leader. But no apology is ever going to satisfy them. Stepping down as Majority Leader may well be a necessary step for the GOP, but that won't satisfy them either. They are going to demand that Lott resign from the Senate altogether.
Here's what's truly cynical about this whole deal. If Lott were forced out of the Senate, the governor of Mississippi would choose his replacement. Guess what? He's a RAT. Suddenly, the Senate is no longer 51-48-1, but 50-49-1. Lincoln Chaffee is waiting in the wings looking for an excuse to jump, and bye-bye Senate majority, Lil' Tommy is IML again.
They are desperate enough, and power hungry enough to do this. I warned Saturday night that Landrieu's win would hurt, and it's already started, IMHO. The RATS wouldn't be playing this up nearly as much if she had lost.

Just an expression, my dear. Just an expression.
It's more like squeeze, wiggle, and curse.;^)

Do you yell "Fudge!!!" when you do that???

Somewhere I saw Lott's remark put into context ....... it was a JOKE, amidst other joking remarks made in that part of his "speech." I think he (and the GOP) should do exactly what the 'rats do ...... "let's move along folks." And whenever someone brings it up, just ignore or give a non-answer, just like the 'rats do. Think what they've gotten away with ...... things far more serious than Lott's joking remark. They just act like it never happened and I think Lott/the GOP should, too. We shouldn't fall into their trap.
Or, at the very least, every time someone brings it up, the name Robert Byrd should be brought up! After Byrd is long gone, then there could be discussion about Lott.

Woohoo! One more day of classes before the end of the term!
After grading a few tests and homework assignments, I'll be just about done with my real work. Then I just show up tomorrow for our last class together, listen to oral presentations, pass the snacks, and I'm done. I think yesterday was a pretty good day to be sick and stay home after all.
Today I gotta go for an orientation for the phonebook delivery job, then close on our house. I better get moving. Later!

Good point, kayak. I hate to see too much made about this remark by Lott.
On the other hand, Lott has plenty of people in the GOP who aren't crazy about his leadership. I just hope that Republicans don't try to use his remark as an excuse to get rid of him. If they want to replace him, they need to make the case for that. Using this supposed racist comment should not be used to get rid of him.

Here is an interesting take on the Lott affair on NRO's Corner blog.
I agree that the Rats are worse, but I think that at the very least the good thing about this mess is that Lott will not be the Sen. Majority Leader much longer. Lott is not up to the job; it's horrible how it came about, but putting him back on the back bench can't hurt, IMHO....

"
..Should you be swimming if you have a scratchy throat!!?"
Hmmmm. Never thought of that.......but it didn't seem to hurt any.
It prolly wasn't a good idea to leave with wet hair, though.............although it is a balmy 40 degrees......but it takes TOO LONG to dry my hair with the chintzy dryers they have in the locker room, and I always forget my blow dryer........

"
It's why the first 3-10 miles (first couple of major hills usually do it) to the south or east of each of the Great Lakes......"Or west. Don't forget west.
A town near the west shore of Lake Michigan had nearly 10 inches of lake effect snow two weeks ago. No other towns in the area got so much as a flake. The next day it happened again but was a bit more widespread.
When we get it it's off the bay (which Bit says ISN'T REALLY A BAY.)

"
I sure hope so!!! Bring it on!!!"
Be careful what you ask for, buddy.

No, they shouldn't rely on a supposedly racist remark. They should bump him for stupidity, as in his 'power-sharing' arrangement with the Dems and a myriad of other cave-ins, and the fact that he made the same identical remark about Thurmon in 1980....

You people up there must be the only people in the US that actually qualify the origin of your snow, as well as quantifying it...;-)

"
Edwards should have been not merely penalized, but ejected (even if there was only one play left). The reciever was grounded and not resisting - all Edwards had to do was touch him with a hand "
The whistle hadn't blown. The play was still alive. The guy could have gotten up and run.
The refs admitted they "made a mistake" in not blowing the play dead.
Still & all, you're right, he could have just "touched" him down. But at least his infraction occurred DURING the game........umlike Kleinsasser's unprovoked attacak on Marcus Anderson, which started the whole brawl after the game.

LOL!
I should know better than to engage in "girl" talk on a public forum.:)

One of the funniest bloopers on live tv I ever heard was on the Weather Channel when someone was trying to explain the phenomenon of how the wind blowing across the lakes can dump HUGE amounts of snow on an area ...... he got tongue-tied and said this is called a snake-effect low!

LOL! I haven't heard that quote. I wonder what he would say about the internet (Algore's invention).
Here is my shot at an approximation of what Einstein's interpretation of the internet:
"The internet is not hard to understand. It is like everyone in the world simultaneously watching every movie ever made, all sitting side-by-side, all making remarks about what they are seeing, with hardly anyone ever saying, 'SHHHHHHHHH!!!!!'(Albert Einstein, perhaps) "

Unstring Your BowI really like that! Have read it to hubby, who is a workaholic who definitely needs to unstring his bow more often! He thought it was an excellent concept, too ...... then got impatient to get back to work ....... *sigh*
