Somewhere I saw Lott's remark put into context ....... it was a JOKE, amidst other joking remarks made in that part of his "speech." I think he (and the GOP) should do exactly what the 'rats do ...... "let's move along folks." And whenever someone brings it up, just ignore or give a non-answer, just like the 'rats do. Think what they've gotten away with ...... things far more serious than Lott's joking remark. They just act like it never happened and I think Lott/the GOP should, too. We shouldn't fall into their trap.
Or, at the very least, every time someone brings it up, the name Robert Byrd should be brought up! After Byrd is long gone, then there could be discussion about Lott.

Good point, kayak. I hate to see too much made about this remark by Lott.
On the other hand, Lott has plenty of people in the GOP who aren't crazy about his leadership. I just hope that Republicans don't try to use his remark as an excuse to get rid of him. If they want to replace him, they need to make the case for that. Using this supposed racist comment should not be used to get rid of him.

Here is an interesting take on the Lott affair on NRO's Corner blog.
I agree that the Rats are worse, but I think that at the very least the good thing about this mess is that Lott will not be the Sen. Majority Leader much longer. Lott is not up to the job; it's horrible how it came about, but putting him back on the back bench can't hurt, IMHO....
