We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]
Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

WINTER STORM #2 - UPDATE
...SNOW IS FALLING AT A MODERATE RATE ACROSS VIRGINIA AND MARYLAND
Overnight totals at the cottage are about 3", though this has not been measured yet. The current QPF says there is another 0.5 inches of precipitable water availble from 7 AM this morning through 3 AM tomorrow morning.
The event total estimate is now 8" for the area based on the QPF. That is still a 3-roll event. NWS forecasts call for as much as 10", if it appears that total will be met, then the designation will change to a 4-roller.
In the news:
Iraq has accused the weapons inspectors of being spies for the United States and Israel and has condemmed the inspection of one of the Presidential Palaces.
The United States will compare Iraq's weapons list, if they have one - Iraq is quoted in this morning's news as still saying they have no WMDs - against its own data, and is prepared to cite Iraq for a breach.
The United States is preparing to call up reserves in the event of a war with Iraq.
A US District Judge ruled that Jose Padilla, being held in the brig as an enemy combatant, does fall under the purvue of the Federal court system, insofar as to whether the Government made a correct determination of his status. [EDITORIAL NOTE: This is so bogus - it has got to be overturned!! It throws the whole ability of a Nation to capture the enemy out of whack!!]
And Strom Thurmond has turned 100 today.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Good morning, Chairmana and ALL you wonderful people.
Molly...so glad your lamb was delicious. Did William and Allison help with the dinner?
My new hearing aid is NOT fitted as well as my first. Normally, I don't complain about things, but this new aid is annoyingly noticeable to me. It feels as though is could fall out any moment.
The sounds I hear are quite different than what I have been accustomed to....glassware clinking against each other as I walk by the china cabinet...aquarium pumps humming, etc. Not sure if it's worth it. LOL
The plus side is I can actually hear our parakeet talk....pretty, pretty Snicky Doody. That's our cat's name. LOL

Good morning!
We got less than an inch here but it is COLD! At least it feels Christmas-y!
Off to get some CAT FOOD, or I will be hearing from Charlie all morning! Back in a bit!

Lafayette Parish was declared a disaster are, so FEMA came in to take a look at some trees in my yard which were damaged by the storm. One is coming down completely, and another will be trimmed significantly.
As to the runoff on Saturday, I think Terrell is in good shape. But if Landrieu has any last minute dirt on her, it will be coming out today. We shall see.

FEMA paid the county to haul away all the brush and tree limbs from the tornado in September. There was a LOT, and homeowner's insurance doesn't pay for that. I know the people in our subdivision who lost trees were very grateful for that.
Well, the cat has been fed, and boy is it COLD outside! I foolishly went out without gloves, and my hands are frozen!

Our weather is so much better than yesterday. It's overcast, but not raining like it did yesterday all day. When I got into Nashville, it seemed like lighter traffic than normal and our secretary thought the same thing. Maybe people are scared off after yesterday and by the reports of possible snow. I don't think it's going to happen, though.

Last night I was discussing snow on NEXRAD, and how it is rare to get "yellow" color echoes.
Well...
There are several such cells moving south of Washington now, from Prince William county, VA, into Charles county, MD.
We're getting 0.75"/hr snowfall rate.

Is early voting allowed for the runoff?

Here's our reading assignment for today. Feel free to read along and leave your comments!
The Secret Life of Walter Mitty by James ThurberThe Catbird Seat by James Thurber
Here's a little-known fact: Snoopy (of Peanuts) was originally based on the Walter Mitty character created by James Thurber.

We don't have early voting in Louisiana, just absentee. Depending on how long my work day is Saturday, I may vote early in the morning. But the Bush bounce worked again, a two day poll done Monday and Tuesday had Landrieu up 48-42 on Monday, but Terrell pulled ahead 46-44 after the President came in on Tuesday. It's not over, but it's looking good.

I gotta get the terminology right. I think I meant absentee voting when I said early voting. I realize they are not the same thing, but in my mind they are. So absentee ballots for the runoff have already been cast?

Well, you shouldn't smoke, PERIOD!!!
As for snow, we got about 1/2 inch on the ground already and it's coming down pretty good now...
I am glad to hear you finally have some tires with tread on them (and the steel belts NOT showing through!). Did you get all 4 new ones or just 2?
To: Bitwhacker
Good morning babe!!!
I KNOW!!! I KNOW!!!..luckily(???) I only get chest colds and not head colds...but this one is starting in kinda heavy.(HOW are YOU feeling?)
I got 2 new tires for the front...you saw how the old ones looked...and an alignment which was needed pretty badly I guess...(THANKS!!!!!).
Soon as I drove off last night, I could tell the difference in the new tires.

It isn't often I agree with Bit (kidding)....*grins* , but he IS right about the need of good tires. Glad you bought new ones....especially since you have to go up and DOWN the mountain.
