Hi G,
Boss asked me if I would go back to eastern Africa if we make the decision to put another mine into production. The money will be "good", but am a little concerned about safety. I used to drive past the bombed-out US Embassy on the way to my apartment in Dar. The latest lunatic bombings in Kenya are giving me second thoughts.

Good Monday Morning FReeople

If you go to Africa, do your wife a favor and leave her at home and demand the company pay for a lot of Term Life Insurance.
I think the whole place is ready to explode into the kind of thing still going on in Sudan. Christian-Muslim war, Pagan-Muslim War. Tribal war like the Hutu and Tutsi.
To top it off Zimbabwe has a dictator that could very well be Idi Amin's Soul Brother if his mind continues to rot, and I think South Africa will have one soon.
And don't even start to figure in the 40% of the population that is "Walking Dead" with Aids.
In 15 years the population will be 1/20 what it is now and it will be a nice place to go again. In the meantime, much as I like to hunt, I wouldn't go there on a free safari

Hmmmm, I'm going to have to think this one over. The funny part is, the wife wants to go. She says she has read too many Wilbur Smith novels, plus she just finished reading the Blue Nile, and the White Nile. The problem with working and living where we are...the overseas adventure is pretty mild. Chile is kind of like living in a middle class suburb of the US, and neither of us are so old that we aren't past looking for a little adventure yet.
Oh yeh, don't forget Malaria.

Hi Valerie,
Pretty sunrise, (sunset??) High-wind warning where I am...the block building is shaking and not from a quake...like the little one we had last night.

Hola Don Nulo,
The 5.1 epicenter was pretty far north from us...barely felt it...only lasted about 15-seconds. Our house is on and near some pretty solid stuff so we don't shake too much. I can tell when we have a good one, all around the house there are pieces of concrete that have rolled off the roof from the roof tiles. There wasn't any concrete this morning.

No No .. this is not smiling ..
