AMERICA - The Right Way!! (WEEKEND EDITION - Days 665 and 666) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | November 16, 2002 | All of Us

Posted on 11/16/2002 4:33:01 AM PST by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

Jiang Zemin may have stepped down as President of China, but he still retains control of that Nation's military.

Director Tom Ridge is expected to be nominated as the first Secretary of Homeland Security.

And Britain's Medical Officer (akin to our Surgeon General) announced that his country will begin an education campaign to inform British subjects how to respond to a biological or chemical attack.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Your #260 on Woodward's new book:
I hope it lands him at the bottom of the sales bracket at Amazon.
Heh, wait a minute! Go here:
Stretching It: The Story of the Limousine

* Amazon.com Sales Rank: 766,542

You can tell Woodward that at least it's not lonely at the bottom.

That was the longest game I have ever had to experience.

Worked mostly in the yard while listening to this wretched game.

I think we should go to Minneapolis and burn down the Metrodome.

Even Brett was getting frustrated.

Those D Backs played out of their minds today.

The good news is that I got my front yard all raked. (I swear my trees grew a second batch of leaves, and dropped them, just to taunt me!!!)

Well, it finally straightened out ....... ?????

Back to the second half of the game now .... want to see how creative the Panthers will be in losing this week.

Btw, to show how our season is going ..... a while ago we managed to tip a field goal attempt. It probably would have missed to the left if our guy hadn't tipped it so that it went through the goal posts ...... *sigh*

See y'all later.

Hang in there Kayak.

Good things come to those who wait.

I saw the play when McNabb was taken down. All I can say is, "OUCH!"

Today the Titans put a big hurting on Tommy Maddox of the Steelers. I missed that part of the game showing my brother our new house, but my b-i-l said Maddox didn't move for 15 minutes. Last I heard he was regaining some feeling in his upper body, but it looks like a very serious injury.

The Titans now have a 5-game winning streak and can extend it next week by beating the lowly Baltimore Ravens.

I was talking to some of my old friends who are still with CNN. They said the CNN /ABC merger is a sure thing.

The current joke is that when CNN and ABC merge, Jennings and Blitzer will do a joint show to compete with Hannity and Combs. It will be called Peter and the Wolf.

I'd like to watch that game, Mozie. Please use your vast influence with the Packers to get them to target Randy Moss. Please!

The current bit in the media is that with the Demorats out of power, the media will have to step into the gap and take on the job of attacking Republicans. Dozens of reporters who work for the major networks, CNN, and the major papers have been told that it is not good for the nation to be in the hands of one party. It is up to them to ask the "HARD" questions so there is effective opposition to the Republican monopoly.

It has already started. Media bias is going through the roof. If the Democrats can't defeat Bush, then the media feels it is up to them to do so.

I think this will drive Fox's ratings up a few points if they don't play along. It will also mean that all stories that can be fed first will be fed first to Fox.

Fox is a long way from having the basic skills behind the cameras that CNN and the majors have. But Fox will be a lot better in 2 or 3 years and then they are really going to jump in the ratings.

I think CNN and ABC will combine and be less than they were apart. I look for the combination to have nearly everything transfered to a CNN dominated entity and then ABC will gradually go totally entertainment. I think Disney wants to get out of the news business. They tried to replace Nightline with Letterman. I think the goal is to move the entire TV news department pain, suffering, and cost to CNN and say oh golly GEEE you just snookered us out of our splendid news department.... Golly Geee WE stupid old Disney characters, have we been out smarted by those crafty old CNN sharpies. Don't forget to write Peter his big check.

I have heard Rush say that he thought that within a few years the networks would be out of the news business and the cable channels like FOX, MSNBC, and CNN would be doing all the news. He thought the hiring of George Stephanopolous for ABC's Sunday "news" program was the beginning of the trend and the change will happen gradually over the next few years. [That is a very loose paraphrase on my part so, please, don't anyone run around "quoting" Rush on any of that.]

Does that mean that people who don't have cable would have only local news? Or will the networks all be affiliated with a news network [such as this ABC/CNN deal] and have an evening news broadcast from their affiliate? I know that even a fair number of FReepers don't have cable and, as a whole, we're probably a lot more news junkies than the general population. I can't believe that un-cabled people will just be left in the dark.

This is a fascinating thread, with some awesome pictures (some in links and some on the thread), about the earthquake in Alaska recently.

Kay, there's a book I read about 2 years ago by Neil Postman about television news. Lots of good stuff in it, but one of the main points he makes in the book is that news is entertainment, pure and simple. It's all about attracting the most viewers so they can sell more advertising.

For years, news was like a public service, something that the networks offered but didn't make money on. I think it was 60 Minutes that turned the corner and the networks soon realized that, when done right, news can be a huge cash cow.

I don't know what the future of news is. I know that we cannot afford to have news soley or primarily in the hands of the networks and remain a well-informed and free people. Anything that wrests control of the information and, more importantly, shaping of opinions away from the networks will be a step forward. Provided, of course, that it doesn't evolve into something that is even more of a monopoly because liberals love monopolies as it's the only way they can compete.

Hello all. My younger daughter just stopped by for a couple of hours. She was wearing her BDUs, since this was drill weekend for her. I'm very proud of that child.

She helped her dad work through an algebra word problem on his homework. grin!

And Trill bought herself a used radial arm saw for a Franklin. Turns out it was an excellent deal.

Roger Ailes is happening to Fox. I wrote to him when he put WHORE-aldo on and he wrote back saying blah, blah, blah. You are right about Greg Jarrett - I hate him too.
