Huge props to the sheriff and your grandpa - just excellent.
Having worked on my grandpa's place during the summers, I can tell you that hauling hay all day, or dealing with the cattle all day, leaves no time for anything but eating and sleeping. We were stone cold worn out by the time dinner was over.
Some of the most pleasant memories that I have are of those summers with my brother and our cousins.

The deepfried turkey craze took off in Austin a couple of years ago - now lots of local places, plus Popeyes, are doing it for their customers - it is yummy stuff.
I believe that more of the juices are sealed into the bird, so the meat is not tired and weak and dried out like some roasted birds seem to be.

Man - Gramps went from working to REALLY working. There is nothing more demanding than a herd of milk cows - the original 24/7/365 gig there.

He had a GREAT dog to help him out - every farmer in the county wanted one of Shep's pups.

You're kidding! *L* How fierce! Their enemies must tremble at the sight. Are all of them expected to be cabin boys?

Okay, I'm crazy. I'm going to meet a Baylor grad student in an hour and a half at the trendiest bar in town. He's 35 and studying to be an English professor. Now I have to find something to wear....
To: ValerieUSA
Well it looks for real .. but I would be AWOL if I had to wear that .. LOL

I noticed that the HP thread is still going, and it has really deteriorated. I'm surprised it didn't get pulled or moved to the Smokey Backroom. Ugh.

It's another one of those phrases that if taken literally, doesn't make sense to them.My fave is Buneos mañanas. It just ties them in knots trying to explain you can say "good morning" in English, ¿Why can't you say it en Espanol?
