We will not live in fear! [President Bush]
Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
In a departure from the normal characteristics of the shootings in the Washington area, a woman was gunned down by a single bullet at a Home Depot store located at Seven Corners in Falls Church, VA. If this is the sniper, it would be the first attack inside the Beltway.
Police found a white van in Baltimore with a high-power rifle, .223 ammunition, a sniper manual, and a sign on the front dashboard "Jihad in America."
In Florida, polling data shows Gov. Bush with the support of 48%, and McBride at 45%, with three weeks left till the election.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.
I slapped him a couple of posts down.
As individuals, more and more we're not requiring accountablity, and society reflects this...I understand what you're saying, that it all starts at home, but do consider that culture and individuals have a dynamic relationship, that each feed off the other.
I'm sensing that society, by adopting deviancy, is reinforcing it. Certainly the defense is at home, but that is a final defense. I think we need to put culture on the line. I'm not talking about NWA cop-killer CDs, I'm talking about beer commercials.
NWA doesn't sell if it doesn't offend. A beer commercial doesn't sell if it offends.

40 years ago, taking the family car out for a joy ride or sneaking off and drinking a beer was pretty scandalous behavior for most teens. Sure, there were "bad" kids who were into more serious stuff but for middle America that was behavior sure to set the town talking.'Xactly. You said it better than I.
I went clothes shopping for my grandkids a few weeks ago. You wouldn't believe what's out there for 3-year-old girls to wear! It's so trashy looking ..... cut-outs in t-shirts, suggestive styles, sequins and glitter (on play clothes) ..... so much of it looked like what a street walker should be wearing. If they grow up with this, then the street walker looks normal.I'm having this problem with my 13-year old daughter. Put simply, she is beautiful. No, she is gorgeous. Thankfully, she has a good, strong head, and she believes in herself. Her confidence, though, swings both ways. She will discover soon that her Brittany Spears outfits aren't just fashion, they are sex appeal. I try so hard to temper her taste in clothes, but one can only say no so much to a teen.
My strategy has been to educate rather than to deny. I want her to know that men are cheap, that giving to men is cheap. I took her to L.A. to show her what happens to fallen angels with expectations and bodies to sell. Unfortunately, we had a rather marvelous time in L.A. that'd we'd love to repeat... Lol! But I think I made my point.
It's a tough fight. Society wants all and asks nothing. I can only hope that my baby will understand.
I was horrified when my daughter asked us if she could stay with her boyfriend the weekend after the prom when she was a junior in high school. There were to be several couples and, of course, the boys would have one room and the girls another ...... yeah! right! for how long?
When we said "NO!" and she gave us the "everybody's doing it" routine, we came back with the response that usually brought such nonsense to a screeching halt .... "Ok, name 'everybody'." To our amazement, she started naming names .... and it was a Who's Who of the high school! The next evening, I called one of the teachers, who was also a friend of ours. She said that, sadly, daughter-child was right ...... that "everybody" does it ..... and that was nearly 15 years ago! She also said that 9 months after both prom and graduation weekends, they have a rash of new mommies at the school.
We considered just chaining daughter-child to the fence post but finally relented and let her go to the prom ...... but not to the beach afterwards. We were real spoilsports!
We were appalled that she would even ask us ..... but even more shocked at the info we found out.
Prayers for you in raising a beautiful young lady in these tough times!
Maybe lysie can fix it up. YOOHOO! Lysie!!! Is ABG's request in #292 in your repertoire?
I think we mean the same thing. I'm referring to the promiscuity of society, its "it's all good." You are referring to the vile consequence of such stupidity.
Thanks.
Here's what de Tocqueville advices about raising an American girl:
The Americans... have found out that, in a democracy, the independence of individuals cannot fail to be very great, youth premature, tastes ill-restrained, customs fleeting, public opinion often unsettled and powerless, paternal authority weak, and marital authority contested. Under these circumstances, believing that they had little chance of repressing in women the most vehement passions of the human heart, they held that the surer way [of raising their daughters] was to teach her the art of combatting those passions for herself. As they could not prevent her virtue from being exposed to frequent danger, they determined that she should know how best to defend it; and more reliance was placed on the free vigor of her will than on safeguards which have been shaken or overthrown. Instead then of inculcating mistrust of herself, they constantly seek to enhance her confidence in her own strength of character. As it is neither possible nor desirable to keep a young woman in perpetual and complete ignorance, they hasten to give her a precocious knowledge on all subjects. Far from hiding the corruptions of the world from her, they prefer that she should see them at once, and train herself to shun them; and they hold it of more importance to protect her conduct, than to be over-scrupulous of the innocence of her thoughts. For more on de T, go to this thread
We were appalled that she would even ask us ..... but even more shocked at the info we found out.Heh, at least she asked. That's half the battle. And that's all I can realistically ask of my daughter. Hopefully, and as you kindly say, I can impart some wisdom before it all becomes a problem.
I'm happy that you've no tellie. Excellent words, thoughts, and phraseology. A pleasure to read.
God, bless us all. Each, and every one. And especially gulfcoast6.
