This isn't news exactly, but a friend of mine sent this link to some declassified memos and such between Nixon and Kissinger about their efforts to open communication with the PRC back in 1970-71. Pretty interesting reading.

You are right. Then, following this feast will be The Feast of the Ingathering. OldFriend is Jewish and I expect he is celebrating. I became sick at the beginning of Yom Kippur and he graciously added me to his special prayers.

I marvel at those who suggest the God of the Old Testament is stern, forbidding and austere. Every time I turn around there is another Jewish feast or festival celebrating His goodness to His people. God needed to mandate times of fasting and discipline in order to balance the myriad times of feasting and celebration. Austere? Forbidding? Nope, not at all. God is the same, yesterday, today and forever.

What I think helped also is that she is, herself, a minority. So, probably, the teacher never imagined she would take the anti-quota position.

I read that, thinking that she is a minority. I also wondered whether any of my own children would have followed that reasoning or suggested that to the teacher in such a logical manner. Then, I asked myself, "would I have done that?"

My sister-in-law is a Moroccan (believing) Jew and they live in Chicago. Her parents didn't come to the wedding because she was marrying a gentile and they never came to visit them on any of their trips to the US (they were living in Israel during most of the time they've been in Chicago). But when "Poppy" was around 80 years old and visiting his son in California, he decided they would go to visit his daughter in Chicago. So my brother-in-law built a "booth" or "sukkah" (one of the conditions of their visit) and they welcomed his parents in law. I think it was the last time they saw him alive.

I fully agree with you, Jemian, about how God is portrayed in the OT. Festivals, feasts, loud songs and psalms of praise, dancing, trumpets, and many other forms of worship are a major, major theme in the OT.

By the way, remind me next Passover to tell you about when I led Passover in the upstairs of a Muslim restaurant in a small city in western China.

Congratulations on having such a smart daughter. You've obviously taught her well. My oldest daughter is 14 and I can see that she's good at raising these kinds of questions, but her shyness might keep her from any kind of confrontation with any liberals lurking in her classrooms.

Hi everyone! Just talked to Jane. She is fine and all of her family, too. But without power.

She said that just 9 houses n. of her it looks like a war zone, and also near her son's. But his house okay.

Various loved ones got stuck at work, and on the expressway., but okay.

She says so much power is out, it'll be awhile before she is online again probably.

I've been gone for awhile and when I got back I saw that tornado thread. I've been really worried about Jane and her family since then ...... but have been hoping she simply didn't have power so couldn't get word to us.

On TWC a while ago they said the system is weakening but some strong storms could be headed for Cleveland and Akron so you're still being wrapped in prayer! Stay safe!
