Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

The military deployed anti-aircraft missile batteries around the National capital yesterday for a four-day defensive exercise. The exercise is designed to test the integration of F-16 combat air patrol and ground level portable missile defense.

President Bush has stated it is not the job of the United States to determine who rules in a post-Saddam Iraq.

I just got up and have been reading all the previous posts. I'm off the quinine and now on to the next phase of treatment, doxycycline, which all of a sudden upset my stomach. Hmmm.

I'm planning to go back to work today. But, I'll be in a committee meeting all day. It's enough to make me sick again.

FWIW, it's already Sept. 11 here.

When I read the news reports of her being turned away from the precinct, a la the claims that blacks had been turned away from polling locations two years ago, I couldn't help myself from bursting out laughing.

--Heightened state of alert - to high risk ("orange").
--President accepted this recommendation
--Credible evidence of possible attacks to mark the anniversary of 9/11
--Al Qa'eda cells established overseas and mid-east cells preparing for attacks on US interests
--Most likely targets - transportation and energy
--Other targets - military and diplomatic
--Small Al Qa'eda cells may conduct self-sponsored attacks
--American people should be alert, and defiant
--Federal workforce to report to duty

Director Ridge remarks:

--may be more frequent inspections of people and/or vehicles entering Federal facilities
--Private citizens should take "common sense" measures
--Increase vigilance
--Have communication plan set up with children for emergencies

The quinine is wearing off, but I'm having trouble with the doxycycline. I also need to take some fansidar. I've experienced mild disorientation this time and my hearing is worse than normal. I am discovering that I cannot hear our doorbell, or someone calling to me from outside the house. I can't hear the phone ring, at least not the phone in this house. Maybe it will improve in a few days as the quinine leaves the system.
