Just wanted to drop a note that John has landed at his destination safe and mostly sound. The flight was a little rough, but all is well.

Bratling and I are going to be scrapbooking for most of the evening so I wanted to get this posted before we headed out.

Glad the girlchild made it safe and sound...NOW MOM, YOU and DAD relax some.

We shopped till we dropped today...found a nice set of pots and pans for a STEAL..stayed well within budget and bought a few "essentials" to get started...Looking good so far.

illstillbe ~~~ I know that you claim not to know much about the sport of baseball ...... but you sure do know how to hit home runs!!! I disagree with you on one tiny part about #41 ..... but agree about 1000% on the rest.

ALL ~~~ Check this out ....

Scott Ritter just said on CNN "Iraq did not kick the UN inspectors out in 1998"

From the article ......

.....Said he is against Bush's policy and he will address the Iraq assembly tomorrow

Time to vote! All in favor of not letting him back into the USA, please say "Aye" .....

Thanks for those links, kay. I heard a little of Rush yesterday, when he mentioned this, and has to do with the fact that the senatorial election in Missouri is a "special" senate election, :

"If the Senate does reconvene in a lame-duck session, and GOP candidate Jim Talent wins Carnahan's seat, the Democrats would lose their one-seat edge to the Republicans. If independent Sen. James Jeffords of Vermont continues to vote with Democrats, the Senate would be split 50-50. The result: Because Vice President Dick Cheney breaks tie votes, the GOP would be in control -- at least until January when the rest of the winners are seated and the balance of power could shift again."

Though it seems very unlikely to me, it will ever happen, because it depends upon our RAT Gov. Holden to sign off on Talent taking Carnahan's seat "early"......THAT will never happen.

Ritter is either flat-out nuts, a traitor, or has someone he cares about being held hostage.

Can I change the subject a minute? My uncle and I have been exchanging e-mails this week. He's been filling me in on his research into our family tree. I had heard that two years ago he found that we're related to both FDR (I'm a 9th cousin) and Winston Churchill (11th cousin).

But what is just as interesting to me is that I found I have an ancestor, George Allen, who was one of the early arrivals in the Massachusetts Bay colony, arriving in 1636.

One of his descendants, a woman, was a Quaker and publicly whipped for interrupting a church service.

Another interesting story is about an ancestor named David Niles. He was the illegitimate child of a woman named Anna Colvin. He may have been named for his father and there was a David Niles killed in the Revolutionary War near Anna Colvin.

There was another man named Niles, a prominent clergyman, who had a hearing regarding this illegitimate child of Anna Colvin.

It's fun to learn a little of your ancestors, isn't it?

Yes, it is fun. One of my great-grandfathers was English and I traced his mother's line all the way back to the 1500's. Someday I would like to visit the little town in England where they all lived until emigrating to the U.S. in the mid-1800's.

My French grandfather's family has been traced back to the early 1600's in France; they however left for Canada by 1700 and settled near Montreal.

Haven't started researching my German ancestors yet..........

I've told Roomey, if that person was ever around where we were and put his hand out to shake mine, I would make sure he couldn't find my hand. I wouldn't shake that hand for anything......you never know where it's been.

I had always been quite vague about my ancestry, knowing only that my maternal grandfather's parents emigrated from Sweden in the 1870s. They lived in Galesburg, Illinois among the Swedish community there, the same place where another son of Swedish immigrants, Carl Sandburg, grew up. (When I used to teach literature in China, I loved to speculate that some of my grandpa's family members knew Carl Sandburg.)

But the English connection has come out much more in my uncle's research and I truly feel much less a son of immigrants than landed gentry now. It possibly explains why I have always been such an Anglophile. Perhaps I should finally make a trip to the homeland some day.

I remember hearing when I was a kid that I had Irish blood. It was my maternal-grandmother who was a quarter Irish and I got the story on that bit of the family this week too. My lone Irish ancestor (and very possibly lone Catholic ancestor) came from Tipperary in 1849, promptly married a girl from Wisconsin where he got a job in the lead mines, and died soon after his daughter was born (or possibly before). His widow remarried and the Irish influence almost died out, but that baby girl became my great-grandmother Minnie.

Molly, I enjoyed reading your story about faith in action ... what a wonderful testimony!

kayak ~ AYE!!!

Mozie, trill, it's good to know that ML's daughter and John have arrived safely at their destinations and none the worse for wear. It would be interesting to hear about their adventures while away whenever you feel like sharing.

Nita, it sounds like you are having both a fun and productive weekend!

Mr. Mulliner, I am not even going to clink that last link tonight. The headline alone is blood pressure raising enough and I don't want to lose a good night's sleep. Ü

All, please continue posting on this thread tomorrow. It is a special weekend edition, in case you haven't noticed. I'm going to get the link and breakfast set up now and then let my son have the computer for the rest of the evening. Have a wonderful Sunday!
