Ralph Peters is another of my favorites.....thanks!

He is right about one thing......when we launch....we need to tell Saddam in a very public way....we will NUKE him if uses WMD against our troops or his neighbors.

#34....Some name dropping from Guennie...

!0 years ago, when my son was in Jr.High...and I, as a parent, got involved with legislation from Tallahassee that was impacting our schools...(namely SexED)...

...I began a crash course in politics & how one person can make their voice heard....

...anyway, as I was trying to get other parents involved, a lady in the community came alongside...

..and Jane, her first name is Joan, and she was a political honcho (state assembly) from Indiana, and she was WONDERFUL!!

She helped get us organized....and plugged in.

And she often mentioned Chester Finn, having known him personally.

I would have to fire up my brain cells to remember her last name, and what years she was in office....(hubby would have that info)....

...but she often referenced Finn & what he fighting against (regarding NEA) in Washington.

She encouraged us to speak out.....to go to school board meetings and let our voices be heard.

The first time I spoke.....I truly could barely get the air past my lungs.
...I was gasping to get the words out, I was so scared.
...but I pressed on!

Leaving for Youngstown soon to see Dad and just wanted to drop in and say Good Morning! I'll wave at you when I drive by, Molly!

Soccer game tonight (daughter#2's first varsity game, playing with a still slightly sprained ankle,) and out of town guests after that, so I won't be around much today!

Such is my life! :o)

You did a good job following her advice, Guenevere.

Must get moving here. On the agenda this a.m. are visits to a couple of women from church at a nearby nursing home.

Later....

America – The Right Way!!
The Daily Update – August 29, 2002

REMEMBER THE TRADE CENTER!!

AMERICA’S WAR ON TERROR – Day 353

The news as reported in The Washington Times:

[Note – All links go to The Washington Times’ website.]

[Note also– Don't blame Chair for mistakes, all Bitwhacker's fault, yadda, yadda, yadda...]

1. Sen. John W. Warner, the senior Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, wants Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld to appear before the panel to lay out the military case and options for invading Iraq. The Senate is in recess until after Labor Day.

[Warner, a RINO, is going down the Arlen Specter path of wishy-washiness.]

Rumsfeld called to Hill to discuss Iraq

2. A bulge in the wall of Jerusalem's Temple Mount, a site holy to both Jews and Muslims, has introduced a new and potentially explosive element into the Israeli-Palestinian confrontation.

[The Jewish community wants to rebuild the wall; the Muslim community says this is all a sham by Jews to assert political control over the Temple Mount. Of course, if the wall falls, then it will be 'exposed' as a Zionist plot to deface Muslim holy places -- fifth-century thinking at its finest.]

Temple Mount bulge an explosive problem

3. U.S. allies and rivals alike yesterday weighed in against a military strike on Iraq despite Bush administration assurances that international backing for a move against Saddam Hussein will be there.

[Either you're with us or you're against us. Maybe we should designate a new group: The Axis of Whining.]

Worldwide opposition to strike mounts

4. Five Middle Eastern men and an American Muslim were indicted yesterday and accused of being part of a terrorist cell.

[These happened in Detroit and Seattle, and involved the alleged material support these mooks supplied to the September 11th attackers. I wonder how many of these wing nuts are quietly being rounded up?]

6 charged with aiding terrorism conspiracy

5. Some law-enforcement agencies are complaining that the revamped Federal Air Marshal program is taking away their best officers.

[And they're saying that the most heavily-raided police force is the District of Columbia...]

Air marshals sap other agencies

6. Less than a quarter of graduates from the University of the District of Columbia's law school pass the bar exam on the first try.

[Hmmm, Well, I guess there's always the Air Marshall program...]

UDC law school pays a lot for students to fail bar

7. Three times this year, Maryland Gov. Parris N. Glendening's announcements or plans for regional drought restrictions have been accompanied by heavy rains.

[Yeah? Well deficits have also been predicted with uncanny accuracy under his and KKT's reign....]

Glendening poor forecaster, but super 'rainmaker'

We shall not rest until we have cut a swath 60-miles wide through the entire left - taking all that is before us with us as we go. We shall leave nothing to the enemy that may be of value to him. We shall show him that he may count on nothing and will be able to keep nothing, not his spirit, not his soul, not that upon which he shall feed. We shall not cease until the moment we have rent through their entire land and have arrived at the sea, with our glorious victory upon us.

Now you have the info, go support the United States of America!!!

And just like Finn's 'alternative' approach...
..which gives teachers an optional lesson plan in sound historical context...(rather than just saying...'don't teach the NEA stuff'....

...this gives parents an opening to approach the principal, school board and say...."we want THIS one"...

....that's exactly what parents across our county did 10 years ago.

...We found an alternate plan...(it was already a given that SEXED would be taught-----we were reactive at that point, rather than proactive)

...and so we parents, pastors, businessmen, teachers presented ..'the powers that be'' with an alternate plan, that solely promoted abstinence. .....(the NEA plan being straight from the pit of NOW & Planned Parenthood)

After wrangling for weeks and weeks and weeks...........the school board finally voted.

They rejected our alternate plan.....

...HOWEVER, they revamped THEIR plan ....and by the time they got through, it looked more like our plan than our plan!!!

In other words, we DID win!

That is a wonderful story, and a good lesson on how a few people can effect change when they are determined to do what is right. Too often people are afraid to try, and sit on the sidelines instead. That is what the other side counts on.

#52....Thanks Jane.
..you would really have liked this woman.....she was so 'with it!!'......Just like you!

I think when I met her, she & her husband were Florida snowbirds.....
..she had a great fondness for Indiana however, and was eager to return.

Cap Weinberg on now on backing the President. Once again Steve Doocey asks if President Bush and his dad are divided on this issue. Brother! I am certain Dad Bush sends messages to his son through the New York Times. Bah!

I had not heard this, but Saudi Arabia is considering giving the Kentucky Derby winner, War Emblem, to the families of the victims of 9/11.

Marion is about 60 miles northeast of Indianapolis. I am in Johnson County, just directly south of Indy.

A fine NC morning to all you wonderful folks at ATRW. It has been a very long time since my last post. After taking a couple of weeks off in July I am back at JAARS in Waxhaw NC. Moved out of the computing department to a position as the Director, Strategic Planning and Success Metrics. Lots to do thinking about where this organization is going, seeking the mind and wisdom of the Lord and understanding for the opportunities He presents.

Been lurking a lot, though not every day. Praying for and empathizing with those of you with difficulties, especially for family members who are ill or struggling with daily events.

Many thanks to those of you who have sent FReepmail of greetings and encouragement. So much appreciated. I only have internet access during work hours and am engaged in lots of meetings and conferences but I do try to skim through the thread each morning.

BTW, this is the ONLY thread I follow on FR so I very much appreciate the links and daily update (thanks, Bit, for doing that while Chairman is away).

Many, many thanks for each of you who make sure the thread runs regularly.

Good morning Miss Marple and ALL you wonderful people.

illstillbe, I can understand why you would mention Creeping Charlie when I said it was a purple flower. I was quite descriptive, huh? *grins*

Kind of like saying there is white stuff all over my yard in mid January. Everyone would surely suspect snow...until I add that it is sweet tasting and there are 5# bags scattered all over the yard. :-)

Okay...I did a little researching and I believe it is this wildflower...Campanula rotundifolia Round-leaf (Harebell)...sure looks like it.
