...this will be memorable for your children!!!

Last night, after supper, I sat down with my son in front of the TV. (Girl child decided to watch a DVD on the home theater downstairs, and Mrs. Chairman went upstairs to check her e-mail.)

After a few moments, my son blurted out, "I'm really looking forward to this trip."

Hello everyone.

Have a wonderful, safe trip, Chair. I hope the Jacksonville detour works out smoothly and easily, as does the entire trip. You are going to be missed!

Great graphic, lysie!

I'll remember that good advice about the keys, isb. School starts for both my 9th grader and college freshman 3 weeks from today. Older son is looking forward to starting but younger wouldn't mind a few more months away from the grind. Lists are being made and shopping for supplies will soon commence. It's going to be strange having one away at school but fortunately it's only about 30 miles from home and we'll be seeing him most week-ends.

Guennie, sorry your plans were cancelled for today. Is your back feeling better now? Is daughter seeing the dr. about the same conndition? I'll keep an eye open for a repeat of that movie you mentioned, it sounds like just my cup of tea. Great comments to SY about private/Christian school and the Chinese students. I'm pretty much of the same mind as you about things, including Westerfield.

Molly, please let us know your opinion of Charlotte Gray. I was looking at it last time we were at Blockbuster but decided to wait on it and rented A Beautiful Mind instead ... it was excellent!

kayak, exciting, busy times for you continuing, I see. Nita, it sounds like you want off that rollercoaster pretty badly. Prayers for you both continuing.

DJ and gc6, any buyers yet for your houses? gc, I'm enjoying your farm reports and hope your daughter or sil can help you post pics someday. DJ, it's good to have you back from your trip last week. Are the boys enjoying these first days of school so far and do they have good teachers this year?

Did you ever hear of Salisbury, PA?

It is a small town about 2 miles from the MD/PA state line.

Hello HOB. How's little Panda doing?

Here's some good news for a change ... This took place very close to home and we have acquaintances attending the church involved. Thanks and praises to God that justice prevailed.

But if one kid misbehaves, they don't get recess, and that happens almost every day. So kids actually get the message that they might as well not act good because someone else is going to mess it up for them. My daughter is a well-behaved kid and yet she gets punished along with everyone else....every day.

I'd talk to the teacher about this. Keeping however many kids cooped up in a classroom without any recess breaks is just asking for trouble. The kids may be misbehaving because they haven't had a chance to get their wiggles out. And if that doesn't work, I'd go higher. It is not right to punish the whole class, keep that one child in who "misbehaved" and let the others go have some fun. /rant

Sure sounds as if someone got their priorities on crooked! Glad it turned out the way it did, even though I like shopping at Costco. They didn't need this particular piece of land!

Now Chair, being a ex cop, I can give you some real good stories to tell if you get speeding. The best, having a bad case of 'have to go, have to go', trying to make it to a service station. No policeman in their right mind will challenge you on this. DO NOT say you are trying to get to the hospital, wife sick, he will end up escourting you. Stay with 5 or 10 miles over the speed limit, best 5 and you will probally be OK, UNLESS the patrolmans capt has gotten onto him for not writting enough tickets. With me, the truth always worked best, I would let them slide a lot of times with the truth.

I have wonderful memories of our trip west when my son was 10 (I was expecting daughter at that time). He particularly enjoyed the cowboy stuff, but wasn't so big on scenery.

I remember looking back at him while we were driving through beautiful mountain passes and asking him why he was reading a Hardy Boys mystery.

"Well, mom, you've seen one mountain, you've seen them all."

LOL!

You will have a wonderful time.

My son was and still is a voracious reader. I think he read about 20 books on that trip. Also bought about 20 t-shirts!!

I think everyone should make one car trip west just to see the plains, the mountains, and how very, very beautiful and BIG our country is.
