Good morning all!
Another beautiful cloudless, beautiful day here, cool last night left some dew on the windshield this AM, a sure sign that fall is imminent.
I surprised a large brown bear last night trying to get into the dumpster here at the fire station. I had the help of the troopers and with a couple of 12ga. bean bag rounds and some pepper spray made it a very unpleasant experience for him. I doubt he will be back LOL!.
Election season has started and the yard signs are starting to sprout. We are electing a governor this year as well as a senator (Stevens (R) has it locked, hasn't had a serious challenger in years).
We do have a chance to replace our liberal Demonrat governor, 2 excellent republicans running in the primary, either will be better than what we have. Major Lib challenger is our female Lt. Governor and part of the administration that has presided over the ruination of the timber oil, and fishing industries. I dont think she has much of a chance.

One more comment about Christopher Lowell and his show. He just bought a home last year, well, the show aired sometime in the past year. Anyway, the living room had these gorgeous wood floors, they did need to be sanded and refinished. Instead, he painted huge diamonds in this yellow cream paint all across those wood floors. I just about died. And he then covered up the floors within an inch of their life with furniture and rugs and tables so that one couldn't see the floors anyway. That is when I decided Lowell was getting too 'precious' for me (great word, BTW.)
And I'd go back to work, except I am still waiting for what was supposed to be ready at 6:00 am this morning. I was here bright eyed and bushy-tailed this morning at 6:30 am, and I am still waiting. Arghhhh, this means I'll have to work late tonight, and I don't do well getting up that early and working that late at night. I'm finished whining now. :)

"Did you ever hear of Salisbury, PA?" I know that area well, most of my wife's family is from that area. I have spent time with her in every library and historical socity in SW PA doing geneology.
Have a great time!

How am I doing? I don't know if it's weather related or what, but my allergies are killing me. I get allergy shots every other week, take Flonase and now I'm on Clarinex. But...I'm not the only sufferer - - my boss and my office mate are all having sinus problems - - headaches, stuffy head, ears hurt - - Facilities even checked the HVAC filters and changed them and because my roomy and I have such bad allergies (and she also has asthma), the company is putting out the bucks to get us an air cleaner.....
But, I would kill to be able to breath out of both sides of my nose at the same time........
It's the little things in life that count........
Stay chilly!!

Try to visit "Yoders Country Store" on Rt 219 just out of town. They have a lot of old Amish goodies and food and such that you just can't find anywhere else.

Good afternoon, everyone!
Lorena - Charlotte Gray's story is a little muddled, but probably worthwhile. Never read the book....maybe that would be better.
I wanted to share elements of a wacky interview we heard yesterday on......NPR. Where else???
Anyway, an evolutionary biologist was being interviewed and using phrases like the "whale's lover" and the "birds divorced".
Son and I were guffawing as he tried to drive down the road.
Finally, the interviewer asked about the choice of words...was it deliberate to anthropomorphize the animals' behaviors?
Yes, indeed, was the answer.
In fact, we biologists talk like this all the time among ourselves, but not usually in front of regular people, she continued....
GRRRRRR.... I wonder! This woman scientist had the most hoity-toity tone you could imagine!
Locally, the truck with the abortion photos on it is now on the Akron area Interstates.
The story in the paper quoted some of the shocked pro-abortion people.
And my son wondered if these same people contacted Spielberg and complained about the horrific pictures of the Holocaust he showed in his movie. Did those images of reality shock them too??
Or did they welcome them for keeping the truth before our eyes?
To: Bitwhacker
LOL yea, that too.

I'm in total agreement, Guenevere, about the Chinese boys. In fact, one of the many things I'd change about public education is that I would make it NOT mandatory. It is a privelege and should be considered to be so. One of the many advantages that private schools have over public schools is that they can set standards for academics and behavior that make sure you keep problems out. In public schools, short of criminal behavior you have to keep them in.
I just think, with regard to the Chinese boys, that if the school is going to have them, they're going to have an attitude that they're going to really bring them in. If you can't offer anything to them, I don't blame them for that. But they shouldn't be registering them and then claiming to the state two more warm bodies for which we need a few thousand dollars each for their education.

It depends on what the meaning of what means..

We've homeschooled for 8 years already. Lots and lots of changes in our lives including my wife teaching ESL in the local public school in the small town where we just moved so things are changing. We do miss homeschooling already, but really believe we're doing the right thing now.
