I just love that pic of your mom....what a grand hat....and I notice, that she, being a lady, also had her gloves....

Werent the hats our moms wore just great....many people, today, collect old hats from those days, and your moms would be a true treasure for a collector...

Our moms always had to have their hats and their gloves for church going and such...I look at old pics of my mom when she was in the PTA, when I was in grade school, and even at PTA meetings, all the ladies had their hats on...they wore their nice dresses, matching shoes and bag, a hat on the head, and gloves to finish off the outfit....those days, are long gone, but they were they days when our moms sure knew how to dress, and dress well....

Thats really wonderful that you have your moms ring that she passed along to you, and document it with her pic...

Speaking of hats, I remember when I was a kid, and we used to walk up every Saturday to our local theatre for the Saturday afternoon matinee for kids....we always had to pass by a small womens shop, that sold custom made dresses, on display in one of their windows, and the other window was full of hats, hats, and more hats...

We gals used to peer in through the window at all the hats, and peer further in to the mirrored dressing tables and the various ladies seated and trying on all the different hats...We could not wait until we were old enough to go to a hat store, and be waited on while we tried on hats...

Well, I shall finish up our Seattle adventure...

Actually, Sunday in Seattle, by comparison to Saturday, was kind of just regular, just dull perhaps...we got up, I cooked breakfast, and we enjoyed our meal together...

We really did not feel like going anywhere on Sunday, especially since we got up late, and then BigDom had a Seattle Storm Womens Basketball game in the early evening, so that did not really leave lots of time for us to do much...

And AandE was running several Nero Wolfe mysteries in the afternoon, and I especially enjoy those, so we just decided to stay put in the motel...besides, we were just getting a kick out of enjoying the air conditioning, as we dont have such a luxury at home(most people in this part of country, unless rich, really dont have air conditioning)

When the time came we called a cab for BigDom to go to his basketball game, and he was on his way...he was going to have his dinner at the game, and I had a huge gourmet salad in the fridge, purchased from the upscale grocer around the corner....

I enjoyed my evening of air conditioned TV viewing and BigDom enjoyed his basketball game...the Seattle Storm won their game handily, which pleased BigDom enormously, as that win put them into the playoff finals...so BigDom was quite happy upon his return to the motel...

We then retired early, needing to get up early, pack up and head back to our dear Olympia....

Got up early Monday, packed, and headed home to Oly, and Mr. Dizzy, was soooo glad to have his mommy and daddy home again, to pet him and spoil him...

I had meant to mention when I posted about our previous weekend in Seattle, that there are two very unique metal sculptures up in Seattle, but having seen them again this trip up, I will tell you about them....

The first sculpture of note, is a huge metal sculpture of a big old fat pig....It stands on a sidewalk, out in front of some sort of business, nothing of great note, but they just have this huge metal pig, standing on the sidewalk...I note it, because I love pigs, but its so grand and big, that no doubt everyone notices it....its just a fun piece, out on the sidewalk for everyone to enjoy...

The other sculpture is enormous, just huge, looks as tall as a two story bldg....it really is a magnificent statue of Lenin, yes Lenin....now some folks think that Seattle is a commie city and its only fitting that Seattle would have such a statue standing in public view....but the statue does not belong to Seattle....

According to my son, a man had gone to Russia, someime after the fall of the Berlin Wall, and the fall of communism in Eastern Europe....this guy found this massive statue of Lenin, in some sort of a junk heap(Now this whole story, as related by my son, is as good as I can remember, and I cannot really vouch for the accuracy of all the facts, but believe its pretty near true)

So this man, found the whole discarded statue of Lenin to be quite artistic and so huge...so he paid to have it transported back to the states, and I guess back to Seattle...the statue needed some restoration work done to it, which he either did himself, or paid to have done...

He then planned to sell it for a reported $100,000...But he was not able to sell it...anyway this statue is now set up in a little area in Seattle, kind of like on display, in something like a little traffic island along some busy streets...its still for sale, which makes me assume that this man still owns it, but has gotten permission to display it in public, from Seattle...

It really is a magnificent statue, tho many would object to the subject matter, being as its Lenin, and all the baggage that comes with that...but viewed strictly as an art piece, its really quite breathtaking and worth a view....

Thus ends the saga of Seattle weeekends...I dont think we are going back up to Seattle until after Thanksgiving, in time for lots of Christmas shopping and decoration viewing...we have several weekends reserved for yard work, and roof replacement time, and BigDom has an AmVets event coming up, and then we go down to California in late October for a few weeks, so we are giving Seattle a chance to rest from our shenanigans, until probably early Decmber...

Ah, but BigDom suggests, perhaps we could venture up to Tacoma this weekend, and give them hell up there...I am considering this...we shall see....

I am back from pool and have not caught up with all the posts
I find the story bout the Seattle statue of Lenin fascinating
a man goes to russia after fall of communism and finds statue of lenin in trash
brings it back to seattle, tries to sell it
however no city in USA can buy it to put in public park
cause it is statue of Lenin
on other hand it is magnificent artwork
so city of Seattle allows him to display it with a for sale sign in small backwater street
of every post I ever read on DD, this fascinates me the most
because of unusual juxtaposition of current events
thanks andysmom, you're the best

Reverand Woodbury suggested to each one of us a career in hotel/motel management would suit us very well
I had no idea what she was talking bout I had never stayed in a hotel in my life
but I stayed in a hotel in tucson, and it seemed like a very nice place to be

and you saw a beautiful Oklahoma Moon

You are right on target about that Lenin statue....

There are many statues in all cities, but usually they ar sanctionned and owned and whatever by the city....this Lenin statue is just an exception.....

Its just such a stunning statue, I dont care its of Lenin...I can separate artisic merit from the subject matter...some folks cant tho...

One of these days, I will get a camera that I can use to post pics on the net, and then I will hopefully be able to show this pic on DD....

Being so fond of pigs, I especially like the big metal piggie...last time we passed by it, some folks were having their pics taken in front of it...he/she is quite a big, shiny sturdy gent/lady....

I wonder if they made that pig in honor of the two big metal pigs up in Pike Market...that pig in the market, is the Pike Place Market mascot, and its really a huge bank, for folks to put their change and bucks in, to help support different social programs in the Pike Place Market neighborhood...

I love pigs too
I'd love to see statue of piggy
and of course the Lenin statue also
it sounds like Lenin sculpture was designed for public artwork
I dont see how any usa municipality can buy it tho
altho the Settle museum of art could put it in its sculpture garden
but I kinda like where it is right now
it mighta been designed for a city street
