The next time you attend a Cheney function, you should volunteer to give the speech for him. They seldom change those after dinner speeches. Drives me nutz.

I am planning to skip a Bush in Iowa function on Wednesday. I just don't have the energy to attend. He is scheduled to be in Des Moines on behalf of Doug Gross, the Rep. candidate for Governor.

I know what you mean about no energy.

This week I had Cheney, Thursday is the County Convention, then I fly to Vegas for the weekend, then the next week is the State Convention then on to Labor Day where I am marching in 3 parades.

That doesn't count all the lunches and breakfast meetings I have been invited to. What's with all these 8am events? It's driving me meshuga.

Great thread!

Vice President Dick Cheney joins Tim Pawlenty, a Republican candidate for Minnesota governor at his fund-raiser in Minneapolis, Minn., Monday, Aug.12, 2002. Cheney spoke broadly about the war on terrorism, but also specifically described Iraqi President Saddam Hussein as a dictator who is ``clearly pursuing'' weapons of mass destruction and is a threat to share them with terrorists. Hope you had a lovely time. Chocolate pudding, mmmmmmmmm.

Hey you're back early, so nice to see you. How was your trip home? Did you get a chance to see Gov. Bush? He was at the resort on Sunday.

Gov. Jeb Bush spoke at the Gaylord Palms Hotel in Kissimmee at his annual conference on tourism Sunday.

Second-quarter tourism figures show an estimated 19.4 million visitors came to Florida in April, May, and June of this year, WESH NewsChannel 2 reported.

Tourism was down 2 percent in the second quarter of 2002 compared with the same time last year, reports indicated.

Bush praised the industry for the quick comeback, and figures also showed that most of Florida's domestic visitors came to the state by car rather than airplane for the first time in years.

I really enjoyed meeting you IG! And again I apologize for being late. It's one of my biggest pet peeves, I really hate being late!

He looks more eager to consumate than she.

JL, this is the third or forth pic I've seen of these two, all different occasions, where Lisa Marie looks like she's had one too many Valium. Poor Nicholas.

there goes our mule photo op!

Dang, that hilly never lets us have any fun!

DiCaprio is whining again.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Leonardo DiCaprio, calling the United States the world's biggest polluter, urged President Bush to make a statement in favor of the environment by attending the Earth Summit in Johannesburg, South Africa, later this month.

"Mr. Bush, we're asking for your support, to be the president that looks towards the future," DiCaprio told a Monday rally organized by Global Green USA, an affiliate of Green Cross International.

So far Bush hasn't said whether he'll join some 100 word leaders, including British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Mexican President Vicente Fox and French President Jacques Chirac, at the summit.

DiCaprio also complained that the Bush administration has opted out of the Kyoto Protocol, an international climate treaty with mandatory controls for industry "despite the fact that we are the biggest economy and the biggest polluter." [snip]

Uhh, no mention of the huge cloud of pollution over Asia Leo? Is it that you're ignorant of it or are you just leaving that tidbit of information out of your propaganda?

I'll be daring and say President Bush has forgotten more about "green" stuff than you could ever hope to know, you pasty little wussy hollyweird creep.

Friends, let me tell you about our Big Wave Betty.

What a delightful gal! She's just so gracious.

I am very guilty of attaching an image of people related to their screen name. I was expecting a robust, jolly person. BWB is NOT robust. She's slim and trim and drop dead georgous! She's one of those folks who put you at ease immediately. We talked and talked,,, didn't waste a single minute of our short time together.

What a treat and delight to meet this wonderful gal!

Awwww, IG! You say the sweetest things.

The keynoter was the HUD Secretary. A Hispanic guy from Florida.

That would be good ole Mel Martinez.

[snip] Before he came to the Department, Secretary Martinez was the elected Chairman of Orange County, Florida, in Orlando, and served on the Governor's Growth Management Study Commission. He previously served as President of the Orlando Utilities Commission, on the board of directors of a community bank, and as Chairman of the Orlando Housing Authority. Born October 23, 1946, in Sagua La Grande, Cuba, Martinez fled to America in 1962 as part of a Catholic humanitarian effort called Operation Pedro Pan that eventually brought 14,000 children to this country. Catholic charitable groups provided Martinez, who was alone and spoke virtually no English, a temporary home at two youth facilities. He subsequently lived with two foster families, with whom he remains close. He was reunited with his family in Orlando in 1966. [snip]

If you have another visit down here I hope it's in Winter and that we can spend more time, there's just so much to talk about. Welcome home!

I know your caption doesn't say it, but this photo is from my event last night. I kept staring at that stupid wrinkled blue curtain and wondering why they didn't iron it. It was very distracting.

THE former son-in-law of televised train wreck Anna Nicole Smith says her latest stunt mocks the memory of the man who left her millions.

Sunday night's installment of E!'s "Anna Nicole Show" featured Smith and her lawyer, Howard K. Stern, parading through her newly decorated Pepto Bismol-pink house carrying an urn full of the late J. Howard Marshall's ashes.

The ashes - which were fiercely litigated over, then abandoned - have a long, disturbing history.

"This is a painful issue for all of us who knew and loved my father," Marshall's son, E. Pierce Marshall, declares. "Immediately after his death, Smith tried to block our attempts to carry out my father's final wishes that his body be cremated in accordance with his Quaker beliefs. [snip] Page Six

I would have never noticed from that pic until you pointed it out. Take your travel iron with you next time just in case. :-)

MARTHA Stewart is spending megabucks on lawyers and publicists, but conservative guru Lucianne Goldberg has some free advice for the domestic diva. "It looks highly likely that [Stewart] will be hauled before a Senate committee," Goldberg writes on her Web site, lucianne.com. "To avoid this, perhaps she should show up, dimple sweetly, say she meant no harm, cry prettily and dare the big, mean, old men to pick on her. Blondes have been doing it for centuries. It works," notes blonde Goldberg.

Lucianne! You're not supposed to tell our secrets! I hope Martha scrubs up and brushes her hair before the grilling.

JUST ASKING

WHICH Upper East Side plastic surgeon - who's had a few too many procedures himself - was seen doubling up on goodie bags at Bridgehampton Polo on Saturday? At halftime, the doctor and his trampy girlfriend seemed to leave, taking the perfume-laden bags to their car. But then they came back for seconds . . . WHICH half of a Hollywood power couple used to shave her hairline to give herself a higher forehead? Once she married into real money, she had it permanently lasered . . . WHICH promiscuous former supermodel has been to the abortionist at least five times since she got divorced? . . . WHICH chart-topping diva not only had a secret marriage - she also had an 18-year-old child she's kept hidden from her fans? Her latest boy toy found out and freaked out.

I hate these WHICH columns. I DON'T KNOW WHICH, WHO! PLEASE JUST TELL ME!

In case anyone cared about Nicholas Cage and Lisa Presley:

While Elvis, who died 25 years ago this week, was not in the house, the newlyweds reportedly held a pre-engagement seance to get the King's blessing, the British gossip Web site Peoplenews.com reported yesterday. Elvis was said to have given a thumbs up. NY Daily News.

Yep, that would be our Keynoter. Elaine Chou was a Breakfast speaker on another day. It was a great conference, and well worth the discomforting weather.

More: Is Nicolas Cage getting into Scientology? Now that the moody “Honeymoon in Vegas” star has married devout Scientologist Lisa Marie Presley, sources believe that Cage is becoming involved in the controversial religion. rest of story.

There are insults, and then there are insults, MSNBC reports:

Don’t expect comedian Judith Lucy to ask Joan Rivers for her beauty secrets. “I was really terrified when I saw Joan Rivers up close,” Lucy told the Illawarra Mercury.

“We were standing on the stage and she was saying ‘The lights are too bright, you’re standing too close, you can only shoot from the waist up’.

“When I got a bit closer I realized what all the fuss was about. I don’t want to get too graphic, but it looked like some kind of miscarriage that had somehow been molded into a face and had make-up fired at it by a cannon. It was the most alarming thing I’ve seen.”

Sporting closely cropped hairdo, Rosie O'Donnell emerges from magazine publisher’s offices on 42nd Street.

For Rosie O'Donnell and the staff of Rosie magazine, it may be time to start over - in more ways than one.

O'Donnell now sports a close-cropped boyish [I believe the word is "butch"] hairdo, so she was almost unrecognizable yesterday as she walked on E. 42nd Street and slipped into the Rosie offices. She also looked tense on entering what is the center of a heated dispute, as publishing partner Gruner + Jahr USA insists on editorial control of the magazine that bears her name, amid slumping sales on newsstands.

But by the time O'Donnell left the building a few hours later, sources said, her give-and-take with Rosie editors had helped ease tension and refocus staffers on upcoming issues.

Indeed, the former TV host treated everyone to pizza and soda. [Looks like she smuggled them in under her shirt, along with a few dozen donuts] rest of story at NY Daily News.
