Wow! What a great story, Guennie! It sounds as though he is truly a 'new creation.'
I had an interesting Sunday myself. I played the organ, as a substitute this morning, and accompanied my husband and older son who sang a beautiful duet together (husband is a tenor, son is a bass-baritone). It was a Hale and Wilder arrangement of the beautiful hymn "Jesus, I am Resting."
Jesus, I am resting, resting in the joy of what Thou art.
I am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart.
Thou hast bid me gaze upon Thee, and Thy beauty fills my soul,
For by Thy transforming power Thou hast made me whole.
Ever lift Thy face upon me as I work and wait for Thee,
Resting 'neath Thy smile, Lord Jesus, earth's dark shadows flee.
Brightness of my Father's glory, sunshine of my Father's face.
Keep me ever trusting, resting, fill me with Thy grace.
Jesus, I am resting, resting in the joy of what Thou art.
I am finding out the greatness of Thy loving heart.
After church, husband, son #1 and daughter #2 went white water rafting in West Virginia, daughter #1 is in Indiana, and of course son #2....Eric is in Kentucky.......so I am here all alone for 3 days!
I will either get a whole lot done, or I will spend every waking hour on FR!! Tough choice! :o)
And thanks for what you said....
It just knocks me out what God's grace can do.
...this man is another self-starter (like my son in law).....
..someone who takes life's lemons & makes lemonade (by the grace of God!)...
...he has a natural ability to learn languages, and while in the Air Force, took part in an military exchange, teaching in Germany in the German language, which he speaks fluently, because he persevered in learning the language.
..(this was with the DOD)...
I'm really liking the folks in our new church, and started to feel at home.
Today we turned in our paper work (ie,salvation experience, church history, 'what are our spiritual gifts'...) so we can have our membership removed from Covenant (our old church) to New Life (our new church)
You know, I realize that our family is not the norm...... for one thing, our children grew up in a home with two married parents who actually conceived and gave birth to them (Well, we both conceived them, but I was the one who gave birth......mr.ohio was very helpful, but I'm not going to give him credit for it!).
BUT.....there are lots more teens and twenty somethings out there who are doing great things for the Lord. There are many involved in missions and service projects, and in meaningful ministries through churches and schools. The future is not as bleak as some would have us believe, but we sure need to pray for young people. It's a blatantly sinful world out there, and it's tough to be a Christian when you're faced with the amoral culture we've got now.
I give Xlinton a great deal of 'credit' for the moral mess we're in. He didn't start it, but he sure gave it a giant shove in his 8 evil years as president.
Guennie, I'm so glad everything went well today. Your hospitality was surely a blessing to those folks. The world would be such a better place if we had more thoughtful Guennies in it. As for your daughter and s-i-l, I'm envious! BTW, how would you feel about sharing your chocolate cake recipe?
bev, I'm so glad to hear that Larry's doing better (prayer power!) and that you're in such good shape yourself. Good news, indeed!

It's only 16 days now until we see him again. Thank you, Lord! This is really hard.........really hard.
Stay safe!
When he gets home, will he go on active duty or will he go to school? I can't remember what you told us about that.
I passed by the Killeen exit on my way down here (I take I35). Trill is going to fly down for my graduation and help me drive back up. Maybe we can meet somewhere for lunch that day.

He thinks he can have a cell phone there, and they get some weekend passes, so it will be considerably freer than basic.
He finishes that in November, and goes to College (in Minnesota) in January, where he'll put in his weekend per month, and two weeks in the summer. If he's still considering a military career, he'll get Officer's training. It's a 6 year commitment which began in August of 2001, so it will end a year after he graduates from College, paid for entirely by the Army, thank you George W. Bush!
This guy had not ever talked with him before, so it was sort of "out of the blue."
He said again how deeply he felt the prayers being said for him. This whole thing is amazing to me, even after 40+ years of walking with the Lord. He is indeed an AWESOME God!
If we miss each other this time, Waco/Kileen is close enough for a day trip sometime.
