AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 558) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | August 1, 2002 | All of Us

Posted on 08/01/2002 4:02:09 AM PDT by Chairman_December_19th_Society

We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good Morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

In testimony before the Senate, a former Iraqi nuclear scientist said Hussein would be able to manufacture three nuclear bombs by 2005.

There is an intense debate, according to the Washington Pravda, going on inside the Administration on how best to topple the current regime in Iraq.

The Pentagon announced that Hammas is looking into ways to use chemical weapons with their terrorist bombers.

Airline are announcing a reduction in the number of flights on September 11, 2002 - noting that many Americans are not going to want to travel on that day.

Republicans intend to tie the issue of Iraq into the necessity for drilling in ANWR, saying Saddam makes it necessary to improve our domestic sources of oil.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Well, well! Looks like the Senate has finally decided to do something this year!

Senate Passes $355 Billion Defense Bill (Republican-led House approved its bill in June)

The vote was 95-3. Will be interesting to see who those 3 are.

The bill also would fund a 4.1 percent pay raise for all service members.

Good evening. I sent the grandkids home and am having a martini, as recommended by tillacum. LOL!

It is very hot and dry here. I have sprinklers running in the front and back yards, and no rain is in the forecast. YUK!

Husband's comment on the California dual kidnapper's fate: "Good work!"

I see Trade Promotion Authority passed, as well as the Defense Appropriation Bill. I guess the Rats were getting a bit nervous. Ha!

Back later...I am going to look over he threads on the other side.

LOL, indeed, UG. Wow, I've had some good laughs reading over today's thread. Just to mention a few, there's Duke's Caltrans crew quip, Miss Marple's grocery trip from he** and moos in the beef dept (poor moo cows, that's just rubbing it in); Mozie's cartoon ... such wit displayed here! And Mozie, that kissing graphic's adorable. We must remember to use it when the GFR starts to rise.

Great links today, kayak and species, thanks! I have to go and check them out. Glad they shot that kidnapper. One less trial to have to go through here.

Guennie, such good advice you gave DJ. Wow, Deej, now that my boys are older I often find myself waxing nostalgic about those years when they were little and I was on full time mommy duty. Remembering your post will help to jerk me back to reality when I start thinking like that. Looking back though, the good times far outweigh those bad ones, and we had our share of those, too.

lysie, going way back to your #235, I'd be upset too about the ritalin. He proved that he could behave if he wanted to and with consistent discipline applied. I think that a lot of the kids on ritalin just need some good, old fashioned discipline in their lives. The way some of the parents in our extended family refuse to properly discipline their kids for their own foolish, lazy reasons really irks me. These parents know better but just aren't willing to do what it takes to make their children behave. We've given them Dr. Dobson's books, "The Strong-willed Child" and "Dare to Discipline", but they claim that it's too hard to follow through. And so the kids are growing up to be such selfish, annoying brats, with absolutely no self discipline or concern for others. But then, that's the way the parents are themselves - selfish. /mini rant

I leave the house at 3:00 CDT AM on Saturday. The plane takes off at 7:45. It's a two hour trip to the airport. If we're a few minutes late (up to ten) leaving the house, I guess it don't make no never mind.

LD and I went to Callaway Gardens with my parents today. A good time was had by all. Tomorrow promises to be mega rainy in our vicinity. Funny how those showers will be localized.

But I don't have any more advice ~ really ~ to give her. I've said it all and she's heard it. Philippians 1:6 is the verse I'm claiming on her behalf. It, of course, will be fulfilled. For those reaching for your scripture it says in the New American Standard version; "For I am confident of this very thing: That HE who began a good work in you (in this case, LD) will continue to PERFECT it, until the day of Christ."

Sniff, sniff

And now a word about tomatoes.
Beefeaters are the best.
Cherry tomatoes were invented by lazy cooks.
Tomatoes at room temperature are more flavorsome.
Cold tomatoes taste like wet cardboard.

I don'T believe I have told you yet that I will be praying for a safe trip for you and a successful year for LD. I will keep all of you in my prayers.

I loved the lawnmower story! Hubby and I once hauled a riding mower home in the back of my venerable Ford Explorer, so I sort of understand your mission. LOL!

I really pray your trip is uneventful, and that LD finds friends and teachers who lead her in the way you would wish. Bon voyage!

Thank you. Your last paragraph is also part of my prayers for her, that God will call an older, mature woman, with a personality sort of similar to mine, who can mentor her.

About twenty-four hours before the trip, I get into a "travel mindframe" and can envision and rehearse details of the journey. I do covet your prayers. I think I will land in Singapore Sunday evening, spend some time there (horizon and unconcious), then head to Bali. I'll get there around noon on Tuesday (I think) and twenty four hours later head for Papua. I'll get there about 8:45 pm CDT on Tuesday night.

As I am brought to your mind, please pray.

I'm not sure what tomorrow looks like as far as scheduling goes. I'll drop in to say farewell. Bedtime is around 7:00.

I hope I'll be "talking" with you some more before your journey begins ..... but just in case we miss each other, please know that you will be in my prayers every minute until you're safely back home.

And I will stay in prayer for LD as she begins this new stage of her life. Wonderful scripture verse (well, aren't they all?!) ..... I will join you in claiming it in particularly for LD!

Okay, kay, here it is.

John, by way of explanation, I received this e-mail today and posted it for ohioWfan on the Dose.

Mr. and Mrs. Braithwaite Backus,
Bald Buzzard Ridge
Mountainville,
RFD 2

Dear Ma and Pa:

Am well. Hope you are. Tell Brother Walt and Brother Elmer the Army beats working for Old Man Minch a mile. Tell them to join up quick before maybe all the places are filled.

I was restless at first because you got to stay in bed till nearly 6 a.m. ( ! ) but am getting so I like to sleep late. Tell Walt and Elmer all you do before breakfast is smooth your cot and shine some things -- no hogs to slop, feed to pitch, mash to mix, wood to split, fire to lay. Practically nothing. You got to shave, but it is not bad in warm water. Breakfast is strong on trimmings like fruit juice, cereal, eggs, bacon, etc., but kind of weak on chops, potatoes, beef, ham steak, fried eggplant, pie and regular food. But tell Walt and Elmer you can always sit between two city boys that live on coffee. Their food plus yours holds you till noon, when you get fed.

It's no wonder these city boys can't walk much. We go on "route marches," which, the Sgt. says, are long walks to harden us. If he thinks so, it is not my place to tell him different. A "route march" is about as far as to our mailbox at home. Then the city guys all get sore feet and we ride back in trucks. The country is nice, but awful flat.

The Sgt. is like a schoolteacher. He nags some. The Capt. is like the school board. Cols. and Gens. just ride around and frown. They don't bother you none.

This next will kill Walt and Elmer with laughing. I keep getting medals for shooting. I don't know why. The bull's-eye is near as big as a chipmunk and don't move. And it ain't shooting at you, like the Higsett boys at home. All you got to do is lie there all comfortable and hit it. you don't even load your own cartridges. They come in boxes.

Be sure to tell Walt and Elmer to hurry and join before other fellows get onto this setup and come stampeding in.

Your loving son,

Zeb

P.S. Speaking of shooting, enclosed is $200 for barn roof and ma's teeth. The city boys shoot craps, but not very good. - Z.
