Tis-se-dimmet was the Indian who purchased the liquor, and he went to the Agency while under the influence of the fire-water and began to create a disturbance, when Ten-Doy promptly had him arrested. When searched a bottle of whiskey and water was found in his possession. He was brought to this city, and upon exmination confessed his guilt. He was fined $50 and costs, in default of payment he is enjoying the hospitality of Sheriff Potter.
* Spring chicken served to order at the Palace Restaurant.
As always, the war years are interesting. I remember my parents and grandparents talking about 'sugar' being rationed along with other stuff as I was growing up. Even a very unpopulated county apparently had people serving on various 'rationing' boards.
And speaking of scarcity of people, to find out the city of Salmon actually paid a bandmaster....well, they probably didn't have many other amenities for which to charge property owners' taxes for!
And the Attack of the Sow sort of falls in with lasts nights stories of mountain lions. For city dwellers: female hogs can be very, very mean. My kid brother still has scars on his back from where in desperation to get away from a sow, he was on his hands and knees going under barbed wire fences--she was grabbing/biting at his leg--he was about 5 - 6 years old at the time. She was chasing all of us and he was the slowest! I'll never forget his screams.
In the oldest section, regarding the Indians and fire water....Ten-Doy was, I believe, an Indian Chief. There is a small town [don't blink your eyes going by or you'll miss it sort of town] a few miles from here named Tendoy after him.
The dry humor of someone 'enjoying the hospitality of the Sheriff' always brings a smile to my face. :)
I cut this section out of my paper and somehow it got stuck in with some other stuff and I just came across it!
I'll have the current on (from Thursday's paper) in the next day or so.
LOL! Is that a slam or are they complimenting his courage and strength?
I think you should look for a fisherman-type guy...maybe you should start hanging out at bait shops instead of bars? What do you guys think?
That means you'll meet someone in uniform...UPS, mailman, meter reader, or you might end up with free dairy products for life!
LOL...I can see the picture now...our Valerie and Cliffy from Cheers
My brother really loves the folks up Pahsimorai way. He's scheduled or has started some work at Meyers Cove.
He came in yesterday just as pizza was delivered...he knew the little gal (Mindy or Mandy).... and we got to talkin' about old established families and how swell they generally are.
It was that way, too, in Montana.
