We will not tire, we will not falter and we will not fail! [President Bush]
Good Morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!
The Senate has altered the Homeland Security Department bill to a manner not pleasing to the Administration. The Senate would basically make it very difficult to fire or discipline workers in the new Department; the Administration wants broad exemption from current civil service rules to hire, fire, and discipline workers in the manner it sees fit. Under the Senate bill, for example, if a border guard were found to be intoxicated on the job, there would have to be 30 days notice prior to termination, and the worker would still have to be paid during that time.
The House voted to create an independent commission to look into the affairs surrounding the September 11 attack.
Algore said he supports the overthrow of Iraqi President Saddam, but that it is not a good idea to invade now.
The Justice Department has created a program - operation TIPS [Terrorism Information and Prevention System]. The program gives American truckers, train conductors, ship captains, utility employees a formal way to report suspicious activity that may be terror related. The program will act as a clearing house, sending the information to appropriate law enforcement agencies for further consideration. The ACLU is not happy about the program, saying it will create a 1984 scenario whereby Americans are spying on other Americans.
Helen Thomas has said the Administration is abandoning women's rights by withdrawing support for the international women's rights treaty, she writes in the Houston Chronicle. Conservatives feel the problems in the treaty - its capability of encouraging abortions and legalizing prostitution - outweigh any possible benefits.
For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Now, how do we go about implementing this plan? Before the shooting starts, we tell them that we want to be good sports about all of this, and that we want to provide their side with some of our highly-trained experts (from the Iraqi military point-of-view, that would probably be true in any event - possibly even with our Boy Scouts) to assist them.

Good uh... afternoon! TGIF, the weekend is upon us.
Hope President Bush gets the pork out of that homeland security bill. That's one of my big gripes about DC, they all run to tack their pork onto anything that moves. Kinda sounds disturbingly familiar, now that I think about it. Oops.
And, as another day-brightener, old Torricelli's in hot water again. [The story is linked below but the quote is not in it, but is found in the story linked on Drudge's page.] I wonder if the dems are tired of taking heat and flak? I offer this quote from the article, straight from the mouth of a Senator on the ethics committee:
"I don't want to be on this committee any longer," Mr. Inouye said.
Boo-hoo to you, Senator [pick one]

smooth work with the contractor this morning No, it wasn't a contractor (that's why I used the term "supplicant"). It was an official from another organizational element.
In this year's process (for fiscal year 2004), I can tell you there is a serious alignment of conservatives running the budget development in the Department. I don't know about other agencies, but we have a firm grasp here, and we are letting folks know whose in charge.

Thank you so much my friend.

Yea I saw that earlier W.....but I ask you, how is this any worse than subhuman who epitomises the pork reference you made above???

As far as I can see, it all comes back to character, which we know is scarce as hen's teeth in the democratic party and those who infest it.
Heard the second call to Rush's show, a fellow just down the road a couple dozen miles, who was complaining how vouchers take money away from public schools. I won't get started on that point but to wonder if they spent more of what they allotted on educating instead of feeding the NEA monster bureaucracy more kids might be able to spell and know their multiplication tables, instead of diversity and acceptance and not much else. Sheesh...

The caller is 100% correct, the will take money away from public schools
IF
(and this is what the caller probably doesn't care to understand) the school doesn't compete well with non-public (read private or parochial) institutions.
If the school competes well, it has nothing to worry about because people will not opt out.

Isn't it interesting what is going on behind closed doors that makes Inouye want to quit the committee! I would LOVE to see the Torch burnt! He ran the absolutely nastiest campaign for Senate!
Guennie and MM and Molly - did you see the article where UOX42 has a plan to plant 666 trees around his liebrary ?????? Am I right in that he made a pact with the Devil a long time ago ???? First, a dog names Seamus and now 666 trees! Who is his publicity advisor? Ha! This really shows how much a of Christian he reall is (5-lb Bible and all) to use that number!
