Yes.

Well, you would think so but go make a loud statement within hearing range of a lot of people expressing a politically unpopular and emotionally charged idea and pepper it with the *N* word while calling homosexuals "perverted faggots" and see how far your free speech rights get you.
To: Servant of the Nine
That is because it didn't happen. It never will. This says Could Happen not Did Happen The First Amendment trumps any Hate Crime Law. This is just cheap and shoddy Fear Mongering

In case you missed O'Reilly's national daytime radio broadcast a couple of weeks ago:
It's already against the law in Sweden for a preacher to invoke the Bible or any other religious text against the practice of homosexuality. A minister, priest or rabbi that does so can be arrested for a hate crime, according to Mr. O'Reilly.

And no, I am not in favor of going around the streets shouting the *N* word. I just think that if free speech means anything, that people do have the right to do so if they choose to. Doesn't make it a good idea. But as the liberals are so fond of saying, "you can't legislate decency" yet that is exactly what they are trying to do by controlling certain kinds of speech. A decent person is not going to make an effort to be offensive to others.

Thank you Nully. I'm afraid our friend Swervie is very naive when it comes to the workings of spiritual things and to relying on our government to uphold the first ammendment.

Well I can understand your concerns and I have no doubt the liberal left have and will continue to stop folks from reading the bible
But I have to agree with Swervie .. that article was cheap shot at scaring folks

He does have a rather unhealthy childlike trust in the government, doesn't he?...
To: null and void
Trust in something or someone who had never failed you is one thing, but trust in something that has proven time and time again that the only thing it can be trusted to do is fail is quite another.

I heard about it:
Last time I looked Sweden was not covered by the United States Constitution

Good thing we are so so different from the Swedes, no?...

Those words are covered by the Supremes "Fighting Words" Doctrine. It's like saying something ugly about someones mother. You have a right to say it and they have a right to punch you for it.
They are not forbidden by law and you are allowed to say them if you have the courage.

I doubt I am naive about anything. I am confident that somewhere up the appelate process any case like this will run into either a strict constructionist Judge or an old fashioned Free Speach Liberal Judge who will overturn it.

Is that the beta server you are linking to??

I agree with that, but repercussions should remain in the context of the situation and between the individuals involved and does not belong in the domain of government interference.
To: Servant of the Nine
A few more years should make it quite clear which of us is right on this issue. I'm afraid I do not share your faith in the government.
