I enjoyed your musings about the Yeti, and the sherpas in the Himalayas...when my son was in Nepal, trekking up into the Himalayas, altho he did not hire a sherpa, many other trekkers did, and in the evenings trekkers and sherpas alike would gather together for an evening of food, drink, and tall tales...

Most of the sherpas do absolutely believe in the Yeti, and some have even claimed to have seen them, as well as members of their family having seen the Yeti...they dont treat the legend of the Yeti, as a fable, but rather as the truth....

On one long trek up some road, one of my sons trekking friends, told others that he had seen the Yeti, on the road, that he had seen a huge, lurking, slow moving, long limbed creature

But no...once he really opened his eyes and realized what was ahead of him on the road, he saw it was no Yeti...it was just my son, trying to make his way up the road

I guess my son, with his big lurching 6'5" frame, long arms, sometimes cranky manner, and slow movement up the road, could easily be taken for the Yeti, by one whose mind is somewhat addled by altitude sickness, or addled by a hangover, from the previous nights drinking binge...

I dont know why, but I dont get hangovers...its a mystery...

I can only explain it, by saying that when I was a teen, probably around 17 or 18, I went to a frat party, and really got bombed....by the time I arrived home, I was sicker than any dog...

The next day, I was in agony...of course, my mom was furious with me...however, she could not help but grin seeing me feel so awful....at the time, we had a guest staying with us, a man who my dad had become friends with during the war(they were both in the army together, and had tied on many a wild night themselves, and hence they knew full well how horrendous hangovers can be)

My dad and his friend found my situation to be quite amusing, for it reminded them all too well, of many a night, they had spent together, tying one on...

Anyway, I was so sick, and the menfolk were so amused, and mom was so mad....it was quite the situation.....mom thought the best remedy was to just let me suffer, only occasionally offering me alka seltzer, or aspirin...the menfolk thought the best remedy, was an actual 'hair of the dog' few drinks, to either get me high again, or make me barf....

I just wanted everyone to leave me alone...my hair hurt, my eyebrows hurt, everything hurt....the slightest movement of my head made the room twirl...I swear, I was sick for three days...

Ever since that time, I have never had a hangover...I just figure that one really horrible time somehow innoculated my body, and made me immune to hangovers...

your son is tall

the books I am reading are written by the sherpas
the grandson of the sherpa who led Sir Hillary on the first ascent of Mount Everest wrote the one I am reading now
you are right they all believe in yetis and many have seen them

lol I notice it was a trekker (not a sherpa) who mistook your son for a yeti :)
trekkers have never seen one and dont know what they look like
sherpas seem to be on intimate acquaintance with them

Great news on BigDom's buddy - and on your keen vision for the day. Hi Dizster - don't distress your mother today.

I'd forgotten about the naked reporter - that was plenty funny stuff. ;-)

George Foreman's huge FatFighting Grill made short work of 2.5 lbs of Hormel Thick Sliced Peppered Bacon for tonight's Spinach Salad feast with Pam's family - 10 of us in all. Yikes.

A super day to all who pass through the Dimensional Door. JL

Say, Loddy...I have often thought I would like a George Foreman Grill, as they look super-duper....but just never knew anyone who had one, to get first hand reports of how well they work....

So, give me your report...you do seem to like it...

Sounds like you are going to have a crowd for dinner tonite...Spinach Salad sounds yummy....I love fresh spinach, and use it all the time, mixed with many other greens for a tasty salad...nothing like a mix of fresh spinach, green and red leaf lettuce, bibb lettuce, and radicchio in a salad...(BigDom forbids me to buy head iceberg lettuce, saying its really just rabbit food, tho actually I like to lightly stir fry iceberg lettuce for adding to Chinese cuisine)

Yes, my son is rather tall...every time I see him, it seems as if he has grown a little, tho thats not the case, as hes 28 and already full grown...he says he seems taller to me, because I am getting old, and I am shrinking...

At which point, I smack him in the face for such rude comments....getting old indeed...

He does enjoy being so much taller than me...he enjoys patting me on the top of my head, like a little kid...what is also odd, is that tall as he is, just about everyone of his girlfriends, has been really short....I am almost 5'7", which is taller than the average woman, and he calls me short...but his girlfriends all seem to lurk around the 5'2" range, which to my mind is short...

When I set my mind to it, I can be a very good cook...but, as anyone else, I have had some real 'dud' meals...

This could be a saga to rival some of yours. ;-)

I first experienced the wonders of the grill at my niece's home where she quickly assembled a meal of chicken fajita tacos. she used the pre-cooked meat, cut up some veggies and put in all on the grill to heat and brown. With some sour cream, guacamole, and pico de gall or salsa, they were heaven. And all in less than 10 minutes.

I bought one of the grills about six months ago to use for our Spinach Salads, but immediately after using it once, I discovered that George had made an even larger model available. 2.5lbs of bacon is quite a bit of pork - two fat packages of pig with which to deal, so I thought, let's take this one back and get the humongo model.

Turns out no one here had the humongo model, except for one lone display model at Linens&Things which they declined to sell to me for who knows what reason. Retail price $129.99

When I found out that Spinach Salad would be the order of the day today, I went yesterday back to Linens&Things to see what they might have for me. Low and behold, there was my giant grill down on the shelf for sale with the same pricing.

I quick snagged a young lad and told him of my plan to go home with the grill immediately. Being a good hearted kid, he told me that I should have a new factory boxed one instead and that he'd go fetch one. About ten minutes later he returned with a buddy and they informed me that this was the only model in the store, but that they would go ahead and sell it. Tremendous, let's take it up to the cashier and you guys come along to be sure the deal gets done.

Comes my turn to pay out and the UPC code they scribbled down was invalid. They and the cashier jerked around with codes for about five minutes before one of the guys decided to take some initiative and just go grab a valid UPC sticker off whatever he could find to get me outta there.
When this sticker was scanned, the price came up $59.99! The kids all looked quickly around at each other, then back to me and asked if I had any discount coupons that I would like to use with my purchase.

In fact, I would very much like to use this 20% off coupon with my purchase. Very good Sir, your total with tax is $51.95. Would you like some help getting this monster to your car?

And that's the story of George's grill and me.

Another amazing thing about the grill is somehow magically, there is no cooking order to mess up one's home. Don't ask me how you can cook bacon without odor - but it's true.

I am 5' 5'' which I think is average
my mom is 5'8''
she shot up early, tales of her childhood either involve her tallness
or that her last name was Kushelevsky and no teachers could spell it
I guess in high school and just afterwards it worked out
lol she had one boyfriend who took her dancing and to play tennis at country club
and another who took her to classical music concerts and for long walks
both boyfriends were named Max and neither could see what she saw in the other

Great, great story...I love it...you got your George Foremans grill, and for a fantastico price...how very clever of you and the young lads, to not only get it for a great price to start with, but also got you to use your coupon....how wonderful....

You see, it was not meant for you to get it the very first time around...you were meant to have it for this tremendous price...

You have convinced me to now get one....I think I shall have to have the super duper size like you got...that way I can cook as little as I please, or be ready for a big crowd...

Thanks for the great info, and great story..

It's a good thing to share info with friends.
George Foreman Double Champion Indoor/Outdoor Grill
$129.99

I think that this is the correct information about the exact name of my grill. If you notice in the picture, there are two round white dials - one is for temperature, and the other is a timer.

Today, I used the max temp, and my eyeballs to cook the porker.

The first grill I had was the big white colored type that just plugged in and it was ON. Period. You get George's cookbook with any of his models and they are much better than what you might be guessing.

Please let me know if I can give you any further advice or assistance - even BigDom can be a master chef with George's help. ;-)

My mother was also 5'8"....it always bothered me somewhat that my mom was taller than I was...I always wanted to be taller than mom...

My dad was not extremely tall for a man...he was 5'10" tall...imagine his grand surprise, when my brother turned out to be 6'5"-6'6"(tho his death certificate says he was 6'8")...my male cousins who lived downstairs, and my brother and cousins and my male friends, were mostly all over 6ft tall...my dad used to say he felt like a midget, around all these tall 'boys'...

BigDom is also tall, especially for a Sicilian...he is 6'1 1/2"....his dad and his uncles and even his grandfather were all exceptionally tall for pure blooded Sicilians, all of them being over 6ft tall...

When Andy finally passed BigDom in height, BigDom absolutely refused to believe it...and I think Andy was only about 14 or 15ys old when that happened...

BigDom was so funny about Andy growing up...when my mom and dad were still both alive, but very ill, and I was living down in California most of the time, to take care of them in their own home, BigDom stayed home in Washington and worked, and took care of the house and took care of Andy...of course, Andy was now 15, and not a baby, so BigDom found it easier to care for Andy at that age...

Anyway, when it was time for back to school, Dad was pretty bad, and just about a month away from dying, and moms Alzheimers was on a rampage, so I just could not get home to Washington...so I told BigDom, to take Andy to the mall, for back to school shopping for school supplies, and clothes...

Now get this...when BigDom took Andy to get his shoes, he took Andy to the childrens department for shoes...There were all these little kids waiting to get their shoes, and BigDom thought Andy should sit down and be among the little kids....Andy just looked at him, ever so oddly, to hear BigDom tell it, and Andy said, "Good grief, Dad, my feet are bigger than yours, how do you expect me to get shoes in the childrens department?"....

Poor BigDom...in his head I guess he knew that Andy wore mens sized shoes, and mens sized clothing, but in his heart, Andy was still his little boy, and by gosh, he was going to jam his big, oversized feet into those little boy shoes...

Sometimes, I guess, its hard to see that your babies have grown up into full sized adults...
