AMERICA - The Right Way!! (Day 535) [Remember the Trade Center!!]
Various News Sources and FReepers | July 9, 2002 | All of Us

We will not tire, we will not falter, and we will not fail! [President Bush]

Good morning!! Do not let the victims of the attacks on New York and Washington, nor the brave members of our Nation's military who have given their lives to protect our freedom, die in vain!!

At the NAA(L)CP conference, the Rev. Jesse Jackson labeled President Bush and AG Ashcroft as the "most threatening combination in our lifetime."

A Congressional panel has subpoenaed the records of Martha Stewart's broker.

And the President is pushing his plan of tough new penalties on corporation leaders who undertake corporate fraud.

For AMERICA - The Right Way, I remain yours in the Cause, the Chairman.

Oh my goodness!

I just get in the car and go. It usually works out. If it doesn't, not to worry. I'll have a story to tell!

Oklahoma City has the Cowboy Hall of Fame. This is a good museum, with both artwork and artifacts.

Good Morning lysie.

#9...now that is interesting. What is it just a beauty contest then??? She's elected for her looks, not her stand on issues??

#17...Good Morning. It is always so refreshing to talk to patriotic Americans. If you only listened to the news, you would think all citizens hated the USA and were fed up with it. Alec Baldwin, Tom Cruise... they make the news with their whinning. But true Americans, make the difference. No whinning. They just do what needs to be done.

Good morning. You said what I was going to say about Jesse Jackson. Only, you said it better.

Will you trade off driving? You are going to see some beautiful scenery.

Will you trade off driving?

Mrs. Chairman does not like to drive in places with which she is not familiar.

I might be able to get her to drive on the Interstate highways. There is no way in the world I will be able to get her to drive in South Dakota's Black Hills.

I just get in the car and go. It usually works out. If it doesn't, not to worry.

There are a couple of reasons for detailed planning.

Mrs. Chairman likes to know all of the particulars of where we are going, what's there, etc. I don't like to spend a whole lot of time looking. Mrs. Chairman doesn't like to spend a whole lot of time with me spending a whole lot of time looking. She and I simply want to get in the car and go from point 1 to point 2, no fuss no muss.

Second, it helps burn away the days with productive stuff between now and the time we actually leave.

Mornin' Gulf,

Reading about your place that serves up a great hamburger reminded me of one of my favorite places that made tremendous hamburgers.

While I was in the Air Force, there was a little bowling alley on my base in Montana that served up one of the best burgers I've ever had. It was cooked to perfection, with plenty of cheese, grilled onions, and tomato to satisfy this Airman. (Course the pretty gal that served them up didn't hurt the cause either...)

I smile when I think of that place.

Morning Lysie!

I hope you get the rain you need.

The next several days looked to be cool and dry. (At least the humidity is down.)

Dry here as well. We had a bit of rain yesterday, but only enough to wet the ground.

Mr. Chair,

Should you happen to wind your way through Central Wisconsin, please stop by.

You'd be most welcome, and it would be an honor to meet you!

I'm happy you're getting rain. We need some here. Things are looking a little brownish.

It probably will not work out.

We are scheduled to arrive at the hotel at 3 PM that day. This is based on a presumption that I can average the posted speed limit (70 in Arkansas, 75 in Oklahoma) from West Memphis to Oklahoma City. Generally not an unreasonable proposition on rural Interstates outside of the northeast.

Generally not unreasonable except for a wild card. The Highway 40 bridge over the Arkansas River collapsed into the water after being struck by a barge sometime back. It will not be repaired by the time we pass through the area. The model run I am using to estimate time that day makes no allowance for detours, since the Oklahoma department of transportation (or whatever they are formally called) has provided very little information in this regard. They show only the local detour (the smallest deviation possible, right around the bridge demolition site), which they also caution is fraught with considerable delay as the roads are two-lane, use stop sign and traffic light traffic control devices, etc. They suggest longer detours, but do not provide routing details. (I surmised one of these, ran a model, and we arrive at 5:30 PM CT).

Even if the detour sufferred no delays (I might get lucky, it will be a Sunday), we would most likely arrive at the hotel at 3:30 PM CT. Not enough time, as I see, to get to the museum as it closes at 5 PM CT.

True Americans make the difference...

I absolutely agree. It's not the ones in the headlines that make this Country tick, but the ones that go about their day with no fanfare what so ever. They do their jobs, raise their families, go to church, and suport this Country with their whole heart.

These people are the backbone of this great Country.

Like you...

I'm not sure what constitutes "central" Wisconsin. Our route through Wisconsin is really complicated: Highway 90.

I do have the issue of a time change that occurs during that day's travel which doesn't work in my favor (I'm going east, so I lose the hour).

Well, it was worth the suggestion. We went there when my son was young, but it is much more extensive now. He enjoyed it tremendously.

Thanks for your itinerary. That is an ambitious trip. We made a trip through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico, Colorado, and returned through Kansas and Missouri. That was the longest car trip I have ever made, and sure did make me appreciate how big the USA is and how blessed we are as a country.
