The coyotes here tend to be more grey overall and ratty looking, unless they've been into pet food and pets. Or the soldiers at Drum feed them. Then they get fat and look real funny. (Glossy coat, thicker middle, not so ratty looking.) They tend to avoid much of what passes as civili'z'ation around here. Some of them aren't even full coyotes anymore. Interbreeding with dogs that have been let loose..

I kinda get peeved about them, since Environmentalists decided to bring them to New York to thin out the deer population "humanely" (Read as 'ban hunting' and 'no hunting'.) Well, the coyotes took one look at the deer and said, "No way man!" And the deer population has been trouble with the yuppies Beemer's ever since. So our local Environmentalists have been looking for a new poster animal for their insane practices, like the black footed ferret and the prairie dog. (Aren't black footed ferrets the most NUMEROUS of the ferrets?)

Hi Darksheare
thank you for your informative post, I found it interesting
our coyote was tan
I read a book about coyotes, they are wonderful animals
the girl who wrote it looked long time to find the coyotes living in the wild
she was gonna give up, then she saw a blue coyote
I think coyotes are more reserved than wolves
(and more brilliant lol)

ferrets are very popular pet in tucson
many many people have them
and sometimes we see ''lost ferret'' signs up

Larf! Lost ferret signs? Oh NO! That's gotta be something to see. Like I said, the only reason we have coyotes in New York is because of teh enviro-nuts here. (They're usually idle rich, baby boomers, or obnoxious drunks. Take your pick, the enviro nuts here encompass all of the above.) Responsible environmentalism is thus, you remove dead wood to prevent hyper-fires like the ones out west, you thin out the herds with hunting (responsibly, not like our current crowd that gets drunk and takes brush shots.) and you keep tabs on the 'endangered' species. That isn't what is going on at the moment. There is no stewardship of the lands happening. They're being stupid instead.

Well, let your eyes go for now. Laters -Darksheare

hi cookie
I think coyote was girl and was in love with Happy
but Happy has idee fixe
he drags Bill to wash
if Bill doesn't want to go in the wash, Happy has temper tantrum
he bites the leash and knocks Bill on his behind
Bill finds it embarrassing because all the neighbors see it
(it's true I hear about it when I walk Lulu)
also Bill loves Happy and wants to give him what he wants
When Happy is in the wash all he wants to do is stick his nose in every burrow, to flush out a kitty or a bunny
the appearance of the lovely female coyote did not distract Happy
he is german sheperd and has german temperment
(he spent all night listening to Wagner on radio, Happy loves German music)

Well, I am actually up early, for me...just could not sleep this morning, so thought I would get an early peek in look here...

The weather here today, will be wonderful....right now its just about 50 degrees, but due to go up to the mid 80s...and that will be the way it will be for the rest of the week...lows near 50, highs around 85, sunny blue skies, and not a big chance of rain...so thats just perfect...warm during the day for summer activities, cool at night for perfect sleeping...

Palo, that is so funny about Bills mom and her fiery temperment...

My hubbys dad had a fiery temperment...after he got through WW11, and then spent several years in the Army Hospital, he finally got out into the regular civilian world...by that time, my hubby was firmly established living with his grandparents...

Then his dad got remarried, and took my husband to live with him, and his 2nd wife...they had another child, who was my husbands half brother...one of my husbands clearest remembrances of that time, was when he and his half brother had to hide under their bedroom beds, because his dad and his 2nd wife, were in a knock down drag out fight, complete with cast iron frying pans, and knives...

Needless to say, that marriage was rocky, and tempestuous, and ended badly..hubby went back to his grandparents, his dad went on his own, and his 2nd wife ran off with themy hubbys half brother...

In his time, my husbands father had about 5 wives...he should never have gotten married after he got out of the army hospital...he was in there for mental problems, connected with his landing at Normandy, during WW11, and he was never right again...

But he could be charming when he wanted, and he was very handsome, so I guess some of the ladies leapt into marriage with him...but I guess living with him was the difficult part, as all his wives up and left...

His mind was busy with other things. his most recenttime jump had been rougher than he had expected...
The fact that he was out of phase with the current background time vibration pulse had barely kept him in one piece when he landed. Something was wrong.. Might've been the fact that he'd jumped from the center of an explosion.
He'd have to give that more thought, later though. There were other more pressing matters at hand. A gut feeling told him that he hadn't quite made a clean escape and that he'd have company soon. Whether they were friend or foe depended on who took notice. A few mental calculations told him it would be.....
Five minutes thirty seconds before they'd show up. He'd seen the observers. He knew they'd call out and report in.
A memory came unbidden to his mind that made him laugh slightly.

"Witch! Witch! Burn the witch!" the crowd yelled while pushing in towards the group that they held at bay in their midst. The angry mob had their eyes on one figure that stood out in teh cowering group. He stood out because he was calm and standing upright. He also was dressed strangely and had an amused look on his face. They rushed forward and seized him.
The mob was angered even more. They had him and he was still smiling! He was mocking them! They dragged him to the town square where an impromptu meeting was already in debate. There was already a stake with wood piled at the bottom of it.
"What have thee to say for thy self and thine soul, witch?" said a magistrative looking man who stood before a cowering and quivering man of the cloth.
"What is the proof? And who accuses me?" he had asked.
"You rubbed your chin whiskers and my cow died!" cried an hysterical woman.
"Hadn't you noticed that the cow was sick and maltreated long before I walked among you and rubbed my chin?" he asked.
The looks on their faces told him that yes, indeed, they had known that the cow was sick. They just wanted to blame someone and burn them. And he was convenient.
"And you speak strangely!" shouted another person
"Is that the extent of your proof?" he asked drolly.
That was where fact ended and fiction began. Some poor farmer's mouser had gotten himself cornered and caught. So they paraded the cat around stating that it was a familiar. They never noticed that the cat disappeared after they put it down. One by one came various people with dubious stories of pains and discomfort all caused by the "Evil Eye".
"What hast thou to say for these crimes, witch?" cried the magistrate.
"If I really was a witch with evil powers, couldn't I have escaped or say... turned you all into toads by now?" they hadn't thought of that.
"What shall we do with the witch?" asked a tall thin man with beady eyes.
"Burn him! Burn him!" shouted most of the women.
"Well, I see that ten out of twelve women have voted me hottest man of the year." Timekeeper had said.
They tied him to the stake and pronounced him a witch. They stated his sentence to be instant death by burning.
"I'll be honored to die in the same way as some of your martyrs." he smiled.
He got a torch thrust in to the pile in response to his goading. It blazed to an inferno in seconds.
He time slipped from the middle of the flames without a scratch. And the looks on the faces of the crowd as he rose above the flames was worth it.

He let out a laugh as he snapped back to his current present time. He worked on making a quiet teleport. One that wouldn't be seen and reported. He ducked into a small alley and through a doorway. A quick scan with his datapad told him that there weren't any hidden telecams around.
He worked quickly but thoroughly. No use doing another hasty teleport and dragging transient time detritus with him. He remembered the one time he'd seen such an event. An uptight business woman made a hasty time jump and brought a part of a city transport bus with her. That was the reason beaurocrats in the agency weren't allowed to do time jumps. That one woman had made such a mess with that one jump that she'd created a bigger mess trying to fix it.
The portal opened, and he stepped in. It was always the same. A feeling of disorientation and sudden weightlessness followed by extreme acceleration.
And the wavy dizzy feeling caused by the distortion itself. He flew or slipped along a tunnel whose walls changed color and pulsed. He could see the opening ahead and braced himself for the portal's threshold.

He touched down lightly this time. And the good part was that he was alone, for now. Hopefully the Agency would be understanding and had heard of his plight already.

No, there are others who know better than I. Unfortunately, they aren't in positions to change anything, or wouldn't know what to do if they were. (like myself)

Case in point on the Stewardship point, Highpoint state park in Northern New Jersey used to be a huge estate ownd by a family named Kuser. Well, they donated it to the state and said taht it was to be made into a park. They didn't use the mansion for anything. The state park service let it sit empty and deteriorate. (It still had furniture and dinnerware inside.) Come 1998, they did a study to see what it would take to rehabilitate the building to usable status. (Duh.) Well, the minimum dollar amount to make sure the building wouldn't fall down was 2.3 to 3.2 million. (Pennys to the government) Well, New Jersey didn't want to spend that. So they demolished the building.

To the tune of 11.2 million.
Then they wanted to build office space of the exact same floorspace as the old mansion because they needed new offices for the park service.

Ah, the lasagne recipe...well, now, take it with a grain of salt, I just dont have a recipe I follow...just have been making it so long now, that I just have very general descriptions, that each person could make it their own with their own special touches....

First off, make a great big pot of your favorite spaghetti meat sauce(Vegetarians just leave out the meat)....

Get several packages of shredded mozarella cheese

Get 2 big containers of ricotta, and drain...mix the ricotta, with a couple of eggs, and seasonings(I like to use salt, pepper, parsley, and a prepared mix of italian seasonings...season to personal taste

(such inexact measurements...'big' pot, 'big' containers, 'several' packages...'season to taste'...)

And of course a big box of lasagne noodles...

Now the directions...

Cook the lasagne noodles, until just quite al dente...do NOT overcook them, as they will bake in the lasagne pan...(some people dont even precook the lasagne noodles, but I dont trust that method)...

Get a giant pan....I use a 12 quart Nesco roaster...

Get the roasting pan hot....add a nice layer of the prepared meat spaghetti sauce in the bottom of the pan...then layer the precooked lasagne noodles to cover the botton of the pan....then add a layer of prepared meat spaghetti sauce to completely cover the noodles...

Then spoon in several large spoonsful of ricotta cheese mix, and with a knife spread the ricotta mix to completely cover the sauced noodles...then sprinkle entire ricotta cheese layer with a layer of shredded mozzerella cheese....cover the shredded mozzerella cheese layer, with another layer of the cooked noodles, sauce, ricotta, and mozzerella, as done previously, and continue layering until you reach the top of the pan...when you have finished up with the last layer of noodles, then spread just sauce on that last layer....

Cover the roasting pan(This is the way I do it, using a Nesco roasting pan...If doing it in a regular oven, your guess is as good as mine, about whether or not to cover the pan)...Cook for an appropriate period of time, which I cannot really explain, just I know from my own experience when the lasagne is nearly done...about 10 minutes before I thinkg the lasagne is done, I completely cover the whole last layer of noodles and sauce with a nice layer of shredded mozzerella, and allow that cheese to melt and brown...

Now here is what I next do...I do not serve the lasagne on the same day I make it...on the day I make it, once it is done, I turn off the Nesco roasting pan, and allow the lasange to cool, and 'set up'...if you cut the lasagne after its just freshly made, oftentimes, the cheese layers run...If I want to eat it the same day as I make it, I make it very early in the day, and allow it to set for several hours, before serving it..

Now I know, the food experts will say, that I am tempting allowing bacteria to seep into my lasange if I just let it cool in the roasting pan, and allow it to set out, unrefrigerated, for several hours, or overnight...But I have been making my lasagne like this for over 20 yrs, and we have not yet been poisoned by it...but you do as you wish...some like to serve the lasagne right away, some let it cool for hours or overnite, at room temp, others let it cool for hours or overnite in the fridge...

I just think letting it 'set up' for several hours or overnite, keeps the lasagne firmer, and easier cutting, and you have a nice tall hunk of lasange looking all pretty...Also by making it a day ahead, to me, it also tastes better...the flavors have had time to meld(Of course my old dad said, it tasted better the next day, because that gave the bacteria time to work its magic, and make a better tasting dish)....

Making it this way and with these rather large proportions, I usually get a lasagne that is about 4 layers high, 4 layers of a heavenly treat...served with crusty hot french bread, slathered with butter, there is almost nothing better..

When ready to serve, I just cut each person the size slab of lasagne he wants, and then I heat it up in the microwave...

I think lasagne is a fun dish, and one which lets the cook add their personal touches...Gads, now I want a lasagne...that will have to wait until next week tho...but Yummy, Lasagne is a treat...

your hubby's dad may have been loaded with sex appeal too :)

I guess that war had big effect
Sally told me in pool other day her hubby's friend was in south pacific in WW11
and with his platoon
he stopped to tie his shoelace and they went on ahead
there was big exposion and they all went to Heaven
so hubby's friend vowed if he got out alive he would only do what he wanted to do for rest of his life
sally's hubby Felix had same experience, he too vowed if he got out alive he would only do what he wanted for rest of his life
he vowed never to become white collar slave
both of these men became artists and never worked a day in their life (except at their art)
Felix never thought about money or worried about money
right now he has only $136 in bank
he never goes to doctor and does not have medical insurance

Sally said her dad owned paint company in Philadelphia
but her dad did not work hard either
he played golf few days a week
but everyone in family had whatever they wanted and they were happy

Felix and his friend were youngsters in WWII
could that be why they decided to just be happy afterwards
maybe your hubby's dad was older, and was upset by what he experienced
it is also possible your hubby's dad was much more sensitive than Felix and his friend, and felt things very deeply
lol maybe he got all those wimmin because they were attracted to his deep feelings and tender sensitivities
Love, Palo

Well, you are right in many ways about the hubbys dad...when he landed on Normandy, most of those he was with, were either killed or wounded pretty badly, and he saw all of this, and was pinned down for a long time, before any help came....

And that truly did affect him for the rest of his life...he had a hard time coping with what he saw and what he experienced, and often he said, that he should have died with his men, and I suspect he carried that around with him for the rest of his life...

The other remarkable thing about him, was, that he almost never seemed to age at all..as my husband got into his 20s, he and his dad always looked like brothers, never father and son...it seems his dad just almost stopped aging, after his time at Normandy, and his many years in the VA hospitals...

It was almost as if time stood still, on his face...he died in his 70s, had almost not one wrinkle on his face, never had a grey hair, and was always a sharp dresser...

He always turned the ladies heads, and now, when I look at the pics of him, less than a year before he died, a pic with my hubby and son, you look at it, and just do not believe that he is as old as his years indicate...

He did work all his life tho, even with his mental problems...he worked at a hospital, providing maintenance services for all of is life...he worked at that same place for most of his life...which was good for him, really...because every so often, he would get really mentally unstable, and have to be readmitted to the VA hospital, sometimes for months....

But his position at the hospital, was never in jeopardy, and while he at the VA hospital, others would just take up the slack while he was gone...the hospital he worked at, was a civilian hospital, and I dont know why, they allowed him such long absences, without firing him, but they did...

Which was great...because he was never a financial burden to his family or to the govt...he worked, he tried to do the best he could, he tried to help his own parents financially and mentally, while the grandparents were raising his son...and he tried to be a father to my husband when he could...

My husband almost idolizes his dad, because he saw him as a young man, wounded both physically and mentally from the war, a man who did his duty in the war, and a man who tried to be as good a father as he could, and who tried to make sense out of his life, after a devastating time...

But his dad, was, also very fun,and good natured...he loved our boys, and was always thrilled to be with them...

His ending was so sad tho...hit by a truck, while crossing the street, and almost immediately killed..but life for him was always so difficult mentally, so we just believe that perhaps God saw that he had had enough, and took him quickly...so he is at rest, finally, perhaps for the very first time in a long, long time...
