I don't know how successful I'll be at keeping away from the MIL physically. She dotes on attention and it's difficult to escape, if you know what I mean. They'll only be here for dinner tomorrow evening, then they'll be gone on Monday morning. Next weekend she arrives early Sunday
for a few days and that will be the endurance test for me.
Hubby was very supportive of me when my Dad was sick. We used to drive up to CT to see him every 3 months for years before he passed away. Dad was a special, fun man who was one of a kind. My stepmother died 6 months after him, then my uncle 3 months after that, then my aunt 11 months later. Hubby never complained throughout all of my family issues, so I try keep that in mind when his mother shows up to torture us.
Hopefully they'll have wine with dinner tomorrow evening, that will help to take the edge off. :)
I'm off to the pool. Candy comes with me, you should see her. She digs a big hidey hole next to the pool and cozies up under her umbrella her for shade. She is too cute.
Thanks so much for your support. You are a sweetheart.

HE'S HIS OWN WORST ENEMY II: Dennis Cohen, 47, had a problem with his
stove, so he decided to fix it himself. He disconnected the gas pipe --
without turning off the gas first -- then went to the bathroom. When he
returned, he was pondering the situation when he decided to light a
cigarette. The resulting explosion destroyed 10 apartments in his 130-
unit complex in Encino, Calif., and left Cohen with second- and
third-degree burns over 60 percent of his body. Fire investigators were
disappointed that Cohen died before they could interview him a second
time to get more details. (Los Angeles Times) ...Such as the answer to
their most pressing question, "What are you, some kind of idiot?"

Yet another genius:
JUST A FLESH WOUND: Corey O'Connor, 23, of Toledo, Ohio, was hospitalized
after an incident in a bar's parking lot. A witness said she was having
an argument with a man when O'Connor attempted to break it up. As
O'Connor tried to pull a gun out of his pocket, she says, it went off.
The bullet struck him in the leg -- after passing through his scrotum.
He was reported in serious condition. (Toledo Blade) ...Everyone agrees
it's "serious," yet most seem to laugh at the story.

hi loddy
I am embarrassed to say this but was Dennis a new yorker
many many new yorkers are good at fixing things
but some, who spent their whole life in apartment where the landlord always fixed it
are not handy
if Dennis had always lived in nyc before he moved to LA
it could explain part of the problem

have you ever seen ''The Honeymooners'' with Jackie Gleason and Art Carney
those stories are based on the real people who lived in apartment building where Jackie Gleason grew up
To: palo verde
I expect you're correct about the dearly departed.
Loved the Honeymooner's! Classic comedy at its finest.
Someone's always needing to call the Super.
It's really sad when folks are too lazy or dense
to figger stuff out for themselves. We have now
grown several generations of folks who look to
governments for their total existence - and it
is existence, not really living just existing.

Good morning or aftenoon, depending on where you are at...here it is still morning....
Well, the rain finally stopped late last night....dont know what todays weather will bring...cloudy skies, with patches of blue, temps around 60 right now...
Well, I wont be here much..hubby will be getting up in a few hours, and he has some projects planned for the both of us today...so I will be busy with 'real' life, instead of my internet life...
Grannie....you were saying, sometimes summer is nearing its end, once July 4th occurs...I have this huge bush out in the backyard...and usually by around July 4th, some of its leaves start turning yellow...it goes very slowly, but over July and August, more and more of this bush begins to yellow...by mid Sept. the whole bush is yellow, and it begins losing its leaves...but it always starts this ritual around July 4th...I shall call it the 'grannie' bush, as perhaps like you, it senses that July 4th, is actually a down period of summer, going towards the fall...
Summer always goes so fast, with there being so many things to do and see...
Palo, your adventures, in the job world, and Bills adventures in job hunting are delightful...sounds like you two, have had some wild times with each other...

I enjoyed both of your jokes...a bullet passing through ones scotum...OUCH..I can but only imagine the pain of the wounded, yet I can empathize with those, who wanted to laugh
Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode, where Georges dad sat on a pasta sculpture of Jerry, made by Kramer...they had to take Georges dad to the proctologist(Nicknamed the AssMan), in order to have said sculpture removed from his butt...
The gas stove story also reminds me of an incident with my mothers mom...my mothers mom was what could only described as a good hearted, but simple woman...she really was loved by one and all, as she would do anything for you, help anybody anywhere if she could...but she was not at all educated(I dont know if she ever went much to school), and she really was a bit simple, now that I ponder it...
Anyway, she had this gas stove in the house, which anytime you wanted to use the oven, you had to turn the knob for the gas, and then when you heard the jet stream of gas, immediately you needed to put a lighted match there, to get the pilot going...
One time, when she turned the knob for the gas to start going on, she could not find the matches right away...so instead of turning off the pilot, while she looked for the matches, she just left it, walked away to find the matches...
It did not take her long to find the matches, but long enough, so that when she lit the pilot, finally, it was enough to set her hair on fire, singe her eyebrows off, and burn her face...
Poor grandma, we grandkids sure got a kick out of the way she looked...at the time, we did not realize that what she had done could have killed her and the rest of the family, and burned the house down...but we were just little kids, and thought grandma just looked so funny...
Good grief, now I am telling stories about my moms family...
