brown oxfords with laces is sore topic for me
my mom made me wear them
it was huge fight
she won
the best I was able to get was red oxfords with laces instead of brown
and mary janes for parties
but I had to wear the ugly oxfords to school
luckily saddle shoes came into style when I was in junior high
and I was allowed to wear those
she even let me wear penny loafers
I guess the fighting wore her out
lol in high school I wore cordoroy sneakers like everyone else (in olive, and in black)

You are bringing back horrible memories.. I went thru the same thing.. My Dad used to take me to the shoe store and I came home crying all the time. Swearing I would never wear those shoes..
My Mother would tell me to just put them in the closet with the rest of the ugly ones.. he'd never notice.. Sometimes he did.. lol.. and I'd get hell... So I'd have to wear them one more time until he forgot to notice again..
Hated those shoes.. Then by the time I got old enough to wear my first pair of high heels, I couldn't find any my size.. So I cried again.. They never had size threes..

Checking in to let you know that I am still alive. :)
I had to wear uniforms in Catholic high school. Navy blue awful things with scoop necks and sleeveless. They also made us wear regulation white blouses underneath with Peter Pan collars. Very dorky indeed.
Didn't take long to figure out that replacing the regulation cloth belt with a regular one gave the ability to hike up one's skirt to a more fashionable length. :)
