Its hard when the one who knew all the stories dies...

There were a lot of years between you and your sister...That must have made for interesting times in your family...

Many of my dads relatives came from Scotland...to hear him tell it, they were so very bad, they got thrown out of Scotland, which is why they came to America...

Let me clarify my post by saying, the oldsters were not that much fun..but my Mom's family were all hell-raisers, and were such humorous people.. That still continues on, for the newest generations.. My Dad was a devil and loved having fun..and most of the family takes after him and my Mom..

Its such fun when you have a colorful family...your mom and dad sound like a very fun and wild couple, and their penchant for that has been passed down, no doubt, to you and yours

Actually, I think Chloe, who looks like an angel, will be a real hellraiser herself...I just get that feeling about her...

Isabella watched Guide and Darksheare wander off, and realized that she had known The Lady of Kentothe while she was alive. And had known Darksheare by reputation... That was the name he used here? She shook her head in wonder. She'd seen him before, but never spoke... And when Kearen had died she'd left for out west. She pulled at her arms, it suddenly felt a little colder out. Shaking her head, she looked down at the gravemarker for ... Kearen.... The sun went behind a cloud for a second, or minute. Something landed on top of the gravestone. She put out her hand to brush away what she thought was a wind blown garbage bag.
There wasn't a breeze. Her mind rebelled at her. There was no breeze! Her hand touched something cold. Her mind stopped.

"I feel cold." Darksheare pulled is cloak closer around his frame and looked around. What senses he had left to him after leaving Kentothe were screaming at him that something wasn't right. Guide was looking around too. An auditorily murderous scream broke the air, and sent them slam plastering back down the path completely heedless of any danger to themselves.

The other was sitting on top of the grave marker, leering at Isabella. She put her hand out to ward the thing off and instead put her fingers in it's eyes. It shrieked in pain. She could see it and touch it! Isabella backpedaled as fast as her feet could go and bumped into another marker. The other lunged at her, intent on doing vicious harm. Isabella rolled to her right and felt icy cold death slide across her back, chilling her heart and freezing her voice. Behind her shoulder, the gravemarker split apart and scattered. She shrieked again.

"Matthew!"

Darksheare's head snapped upward as if he'd been called. He was. He put more effort into running and getting to the source of that scream... Guide was wondering just how much of Darksheare's 'gift' had left when he came to Earth when something landed in front of him and slugged him in the stomach. He crumpled up into a pile, winded. He'd run straight into it.. Like a fool he hadn't paid any attention. The others were there. Coughing, he stood up.

Surrounded.

Darksheare vaulted over a stone and landed next to Isabella. The ugliest, blackest thing he'd ever seen turned and looked at him. It batted at him with one, one would guess, hand and went back to choking the breath out of Isabella. Her eyes were beginning to bulge and her face was white. Her unbruised eye turned to Darksheare. His fist caught the thing in the side of the head and actually made it move a small distance. The odd feeling in the air got worse. Isabella thought she heard hundreds of droning voices. She figured that was due to having her head and neck squeezed in a vice like.. claw? The thing spun about to Darksheare and spoke through a horror of a mouth.

"How is it that you can touch me?" or so it sounded. Darksheare didn't care at the moment, he was heading in for the kill. Anyone who knew his name here was likely to know everything.. and he couldn't afford to not help them. The governments of Ea'rth would be very interested in other worlds.... Besides. It had hurt a woman and he was righteously p.o.'d by that and wanted to assauge his anger by seeing what color this things' guts looked like.

Guide already had an impressive pile of black bodied shapes that were vaguely humanoid laying around. His left cheek had a hand mark on it, and his hat had suffered some. But other than that, he was fine. The circle around him was several magnitudes less, but it was still a large number to deal with. His hand was a shining white fire, something the others hadn't counted on. Guide wasn't totally helpless like they'd been told....and he did fight. Guide hated using force to acccomplish his goal. It usually sullied what he was trying to accomplish. But he had no choice. Not now. His eyes blazed in wrath and he lunged at the largest of the pack. His hands making small arcs of white light as he moved, the others dodged as best as they could from this seemingly insane and desperate attack, but quite a few were burned and injured by the slightest touch of those hands. Guide grabbed the large thing and then crushed it with his hands as if it were nothing more than a cheeze doodle. Scattering the rapidly dissolving bits he turned to the nearest opponent and reached out.

"No! Go away!" the black bulbous eyes registered fear. They'd watched Guide for some time, and had never seen him act like this at all... They scattered as far as they could go. Guide ran on, playing catch up.

Darksheare was overmatched, and knew it. He wasn't about to give up, either. Isabella was doing her best to fight as well, but was being thrown and pushed around. Darksheare had one wild desperate thought, and acted on it.

"Isabella, you belong to us! Why would you become a traitor like that? Whore! Your body is ours, and your soul is ours! We will drag you back to the shadows in pain and torment where you will learn to obey us again." she knew full well what those words meant. The 'Masters' wanted her back and would show their displeasure at her defection by using her, and probably not killing her, but making her wish they had. She pulled a pencil out of her jacket pocket and made desperate use of it as a weapon. These things seemed to be vulnerable in the eyes. She lunged, turned, poked, and pivoted on her heel to poke at another eye whenever one presented itself. Darksheare raced past her to the tree opposite Lady of Kentothe's grave, he was holding one of them up in the air. She turned to see what he was doing, a fist crashed into her chest like a truck. She fell, still watching the one who was vainly trying to help her. It was over, she closed her eyes. More things appeared.

Darksheare got to the tree and the familiar two tone thrumming was pulsing through the ground. His ears hurt from the high pitched tones, and his bones ached from the low frequency sound washing over him.. but it was his only thought. He shoved the thing through the portal as it opened inside the tree. The large oak didn't show any change or damage as it became the focus of a portal. The thing did. Darksheare didn't let it go. Instead, he pulled back on it -preventing it from going through the portal all the way. It shrieked as it's insides tried to be in two places and two worlds at once. Then it stopped, and fell to the ground. A click was heard and Darksheare turned around. There was a kid standing there with a gun. He had it pointed at Darksheare, his hand shaking. It was obvious that the kid was under the things' control. Guide was coming up from behind, the things scattered as he ran in. The kid flinched, his finger twitched, the gun went off. Darksheare disappeared into the portal backwards, limply. Guide got his hands on the kid, the gun sailed away as if thrown. Guide never touched it. Darksheare stood to his right, his hand outstretched and pointing. A scratch ran along his forehead. But the gun had gone on the direction he was pointing.

"I'd pay real money to know how he knew that portal was there, and how he did that."Guide thought.
"So would I." Darksheare said. Guide looked at him sideways. How had he known what I was thinking? Darksheare shrugged and ran over to Isabella. The things were dragging her limp form off. The portal surged and coughed. The things unceremoniously dropped Isabella at his approach and turned to face him. The kid passed out in Guide's hands. He dropped the kid and ran after Darksheare.

A pale woman standing next to a blue Toyota GT-R pointed to Darksheare and spoke to her passenger. Guide noticed her for a brief second. He knew her, but was very busy at the moment. At the combined appraoch of both Guide and Darksheare, the others turned tail and ran. Darksheare grabbed Isabella and cradled her like a child. With the portal open, he was getting flashes and sparks of his 'gifts' back. Her mind was a jumble of dis-jointed thoughts and memories. Most were horrible to witness. He shut it out and walked back to the tree. Guide was careful to keep an eye out for a counter-charge, this time. It was a close call. Too close, for all of them. Guide looked back to where the blue Toyota had been, it was gone. Briefly, he wondered what She who was Death wanted here at a city of monuments to her. Then he turned back to Darksheare. She's been pointing at him, after all....

"What was that you were saying before we got the stuffing kicked out of us?" Darksheare cracked a joke, the first in almost an ice age.
"I said that I think you belong here, for some purpose. But I do not know the purpose. I am not told such things." he was breathing heavy. He'd exerted himself quite a bit, back in the 'pit ring' around the corner. Tons of thoughts and question cricled his head, like how was it that Darksheare could see the others? And how had he gotten some of the 'gifts' back along with that portal? What was going on here? Darksheare motioned to the portal, which calmed and closed. But the odd feeling in the air didn't go away.

"I chose here to bury The Lady of Kentothe because of the natural portal across the way. Like I said, my people wander after death, and I hoped that a nearby portal would allow her to go 'home'. So to speak." he looked old and sad as he explained the portal being there. Guide was somewhat amused by that. Such loyalty didn't exist among humans these days. Almost as amusing, but somewhat startling, Darksheare pulled out a sword. heput it in Isabella's unconscious hand and muttered a small oath to her. It was the last oath he'd ever give to someone for a long time.

"I pledge my friendship and what little protection I can offer for as long as you wish to claim it. No matter where you are, if you call me I will come and offer my aid."
"Darks.. umm.. why didn't you try to use the sword on them?" Guide wanted to know, and he was nervous that someone might see a cloaked man holding a half-dressed unconscious female with a sword laid across her body.
"It probably would have been as effective as her pencil was. Besides, Chruwada have never been hurt by swords before." Darksheare used his native tongue's word for 'imp' or 'demon'. Guide nodded. And he took Isabella off to his next assignment.

Irrelevantly, he thought of something Darksheare had said about this world being close to ending and concluded that he was right, about part of it.

"If it is all going to burn down, then I'd rather see it while among friends and see it as one of them rather than lord over a land and see it all end and be unable to stop it." Darksheare had chosen to make his stand here, as he had been meant to do.

But what was She who was Death up to?

Quick Actions Prevent Possible Catastrophe

ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI, JUNE 23, 2002, 9:30 p.m. CDT (JUNE 24, 2002, 02:30
UTC) - -As nighttime approaches, Steve Fossett in Bud Light Spirit of
Freedom must turn on its burners to keep the balloon flying at its current
altitude, since the sun's solar heating effects no longer take place. A
short while ago, mission control received this email from Fossett
describing a possible mission-ending catastrophe concerning his burners:

"Just as I started up the burners after the daytime solar float, the #1
burner seized open. At full burn it would only be a minute before the
balloon rockets through its ceiling. I turned off the valves and started
organizing tools and parts to replace the seized solenoid. Then I thought,
it's probably frozen. Perhaps these chemical heating pouches for the MRE's
would warm it up enough. I put some water in one to start the chemical
reaction producing the heat, then taped it around the solenoid. It thawed
and a parts replacement operation was saved, for now.

hi andysmom
I just found your post 418
thank you
I agree with you
you gave us just enough facts in the story of Marion, Oscar and Marion's husband
for us to enjoy ourselves speculating what the story is
what makes it interesting, is that the 3 of them found a way which worked
I think the credit goes to Marion's husband
but Marion may be one of those rare individuals who can share her love equally
I love you
